Moreno ruled out vs. Colts

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Denver Post is reporting that Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno suffered an injury during Friday’s practice and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Colts. The Post did not clarify the specifics of the injury. Head Coach Josh McDaniels told reporters that Laurence Maroney, Correll Buckhalter, and Andre Brown would all split carries against Indianapolis.

Fantasy Impact: Given that the Broncos have only rushed for a combined 147 yards over the first two weeks even with Moreno in the lineup, I don’t see this being a major problem, especially given that the Colts have proven themselves somewhat susceptible to being run on. The main matchup that Denver’s offense must win on Sunday is that of tackles Ryan Clady and Zane Beadles keeping Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis away from Kyle Orton. I expect Maroney to get the majority of the carries Sunday, because his knowledge of a team like the Colts is one of the things that made a reunion with McDaniels from their New Engald days appealing to the head coach and Maroney has more experience than Brown and is fresher than Buckhalter.

Week 3 Preview and Prediction: Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions

Email Post Email Post
vikings-lions-prediction

It may only be Week Three, but as a Vikings fan it has felt like it is already Week 17. I’m almost ready for the season to be done. Between Favre, Harvin, Rice, Childress, Peterson and everything else that went down during the preseason, I’m done with off-field stories.

Or so I thought.

Then this happened.

Which means THIS HAPPENS.

I actually have a reason to go to Vikings games this year.

Knowshon Moreno Injury Update: Ruled OUT for Sunday’s Game v Indianapolis

Mark this in the WTF category.

Despite not appearing on the injury report all week (and I didn’t even mention him during this morning’s injury update), Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno is apparently injured and has been ruled OUT for Sunday’s game against the Colts.

——————–

The 2009 NFL season’s opening Sunday night game brought the Chicago Bears to Green Bay. This matchup is usually good for a primetime slot every year because they are the Ancient Rivals Who Don’t Like Each Other. They play hard-nosed football, you can throw out the records, and yadda-yadda-yadda.

Most importantly, it allows whatever network that is hosting the game to dust off the old highlights of Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke and wax poetic on the “black and blue” division and of blue-collar Midwestern work ethic. No matter what changes in the NFL, the Packers and Bears will always be battling on top the gridirons of yesteryear. It’s a football purist’s wet dream.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Adds: Mike Tolbert, Keiland Williams, more

Email Post Email Post

Last week Brandon Jackson was the player thousands (Randy Cross/Spero Dedes said perhaps even millions on CBS broadcast) of fantasy football managers scarfed off the free agent wive, in certain formats draining much of the free agent budget to do so. After all, what could possibly go wrong – coach Mike McCarthy said himself during the preseason that he would have the fullest confidence in B-Jax in case he was needed as a feature back for an extended period of time…

That my friends, is called coach-speak.

Just one week later, after a bevy of three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust runs versus what was supposed to be one of the worst-run defenses in the league, McCarthy and Offensive Coordinator Joe Philbin now say that they don’t see Jackson doing the heavy lifting, hinting that B-Jax, John Kuhn, and Dmitri Nance may end up being a three-headed backfield monster.

If you were lucky enough not to pick up Jackson, there are new alternatives this week.

Chargers start Tolbert, rest Matthews

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that the San Diego Chargers will start RB Mike Tolbert and rest RB Ryan Matthews for their upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. Matthews has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and it is unclear how much time he will miss. However, he is optomistic about a quick return, saying, "I don't think it's that bad."

Fantasy Impact: Recovery time for high ankle sprains differs from person to person. Depending on how he treats it, Matthews could only miss a week or up to half the season. Tolbert is coming off a strong performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he racked up 82 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. He is a good pickup in fantasy leagues needing a number two RB for next week.

More 0-2 teams have recovered to make the NFL playoffs than you might think

MARATHON NOT SPRINT

History shows that 0-2 teams advance to the playoffs more often than people might think.  Since the current playoff format was instituted in 1990, 22 teams started 0-2 and still qualified for the postseason.

Bears’ Wright may be out for a month

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Chicago Bears rookie S Major Wright could miss a month due to a hamstring injury suffered in last week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. An MRI revealed a second-degree strain on the hamstring. This is the third time Wright has been injured since being drafted in April.

Fantasy Impact: Wright was splitting time with S Chris Harris, so Harris get an opportunity to be the team's full-time starter. Wright's career has been off to a rough start so far. Unless Harris gets hurt the Bears should be fine without him.
