O’Hara Done For Preseason

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jane McManus of ESPNNewYork.com reports that New York Giants C Shaun O'Hara will sit out the remainder of the preseason. He has been bothered by tendinitis, soreness, and swelling in his left ankle and Achilles tendon throughout training camp and was seen wearing a hard cast on the leg. O'Hara hopes that wearing a cast will get him ready for the regular season opener.

Fantasy Impact: O'Hara is the leader of the O-Line of the Giants and is one of the best centers in the league. The Giants hope to improve their running game this season after struggling in 2009, and O'Hara will be a key to any potential success.

Leinart Demoted In Arizona

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Associated Press, the Arizona Cardinals have demoted QB Matt Leinart to 2nd string. Leinart has struggled in the preseason and Derek Anderson will get a chance to work with the starters this weekend.

Fantasy Impact: This move does nothing but hurt Leinart's confidence. If Leinart hopes to win the starting job back, he will have to play very well and move the Cardinals offense up and down the field. If he does not improve his play, he may not only be done as a starter in Arizona, he may be done in Arizona all together.

Bradford to make first start of NFL career

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN is reporting that St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford will make the first start of his NFL career on Thursday against the New England Patriots. The NFL's richest rookie ever will get the start due to a thumb injury on starting QB A.J. Feeley's throwing hand.

Fantasy Impact: Bradford has been impressive all summer and has been breathing down A. J. Feeley's neck for the starting QB more and more every day. Bradford may just take over permenantly after Thursday's game depending on his performance, but he will have to take his lumps because the Rams offensive line has been scary bad so far this year.

Ben Hamilton Sidelined For Seahawks

Email Post Email Post

Update: Seattle Seahawks LG Ben Hamilton was sidelined during practice on Wednesday, being seen with ice on his knee, the AP reports. Hamilton was brought in from Denver in the offseason to shore up the offensive line and help mentor Russell Okung.

Fantasy Impact: The injury does not appear to be serious for Hamilton. He will not play this weekend, but that is for precautionary reasons. The Seahawks want him healthy for the regular season opener.

Session, Garcon expected to start for Colts

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Indianapolis Colts OLB Clint Session and WR Pierre Garcon will make their preseason debut on Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. Session was suffering from pectoral muscle injury while Garcon had an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Impact: Assuming they stay healthy, Garcon and Session should be ready to go come the start of the regular season. Garcon ended last season strong, and with WR Reggie Wayne drawing most of the double-coverages, expect Parcon to get a lot of looks from Peyton Manning.

Cornelius Ingram Has Cyst Drained

Email Post Email Post

Update: Philadelphia Eagles TE Cornelius Ingram had a cyst in the back of his left knee drained on Thursday, the AP reports. The cyst was discovered after he underwent an MRI on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: Ingram tore his ACL in 2008 at Florida, and re-injured the knee in 2009 as a rookie with the Eagles, causing him to miss the entire season. He is the second TE on the depth chart behind Brent Celek, so he would not see the field much anyways. The Eagles don't expect much from Ingram at this point, but hope he can stay healthy and make any contributions he can.

Lions Awarded Polumbus

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the Detroit Lions have picked up OT Tyler Polumbus off waivers. Polumbus was placed on waivers by the Broncos and also saw interest from the Texans and Seahawks.

Fantasy Impact: Polumbus was surprised about being placed on waivers just a year after starting 8 games in Denver. He is most likely being brought into Detroit to add depth, but he likely will not start, at least not at the beginning of the season.

Harris patient about possible contract extension

Email Post Email Post

Update: While the ongoing Darrelle Revis saga and the recent long-term extension signed by All-Pro center Nick Mangold seem to dominate the contract news surrounding the Jets, another young star waits patiently to be compensated according to his outstanding on-field production. Linebacker David Harris is making only $550,000 this season and because of contract rules related to the uncapped NFL season and partly because of the priority the organization has placed in getting Revis in camp, it’s almost impossible for the Jets to sign Harris to a lucrative long-term deal. Said Harris recently, to New York Newsday: “I know the situation I’m in, and I can’t do anything about it except be patient. Walking around here and pouting isn’t going to change anything, and my contract isn’t going to help me play any better, so I just have to go out there and be the same player I was before.” Harris is in the final year of a four-year deal he signed as a rookie second-round pick in 2007.

Fantasy Impact: Not that Harris hasn’t played with the utmost heart and hunger through his first three years in New York, but there is nothing like the dangling carrot of a big payday to get a career year out of a player. Harris and Bart Scott make up the league’s best inside linebacker tandem and the two should be counted on to have another outstanding year, especially as they plan for the possible absence of Darrelle Revis throughout 2010. Rex Ryan’s aggressive, blitz-happy scheme is almost tailor-made to the reckless abandonment that Harris has played with since the minute he joined the league. Even if Revis doesn’t return in time for your fantasy draft, make the Jets’ defense one of the first three units off the board.

Gostkowski Gets New Deal

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Boston Herald reports that New England Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski has received a new deal from the team. The deal is reportedly worth $14 million over 5 years, with $5 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Impact: Gostkowski is one of the league's best and most accurate kickers. In 4 seasons he has converted on 85.1% of his kicks, which is an impressive number. In terms of fantasy, he is one of the best kickers, if not the best, and should be one of the first kickers taken.

Hardesty Practices For First Time

Email Post Email Post

Update: On Thursday, Cleveland Browns RB Montario Hardesty practiced for the first time since injuring his knee in a pre-training camp workout, the AP reports. Hardesty suffered a bone bruise in a 1-on-1 drill, and the Browns hope he will be ready for the regular season opener.

Fantasy Impact: Hardesty is behind Jerome Harrison on the depth chart, but both should get plenty of touches each game. The Browns hope that they have a dynamic duo in the backfield, and if Hardesty outplays Harrison, he could emerge as the lead back in Cleveland.

James Hardy Returns To Practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: Bucky Gleason of BuffaloNews.com reports that Buffalo Bills WR James Hardy has returned to practice after missing 15 days with an undisclosed injury. Hardy hopes to play in the team's preseason game on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact: After being a 2nd round pick in 2008, Hardy has disappointed. In 2 seasons, he has just 10 catches for 96 yards in 16 games. He has fallen down the depth chart simply because he can not stay healthy, and will have to prove that he deserves a roster spot. It's definitely not worth even looking at Hardy in fantasy at this point.

Ross has tear in plantar fasciitis injury

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Associated Press is reporting that Giants cornerback Aaron Ross has a tear in his plantar fasciitis injury in his right foot. Ross will be in a cast for seven to ten days and then will work to regain the strength in his foot. This injury makes Ross a question mark for the September 12 opener against the Panthers.

Fantasy Impact: Given that Terrell Thomas had already overtaken Ross' no.2 CB spot, this shouldn't make Giants fans too nervous. The Giants can afford to be somewhat cautious through the first week at least, because when the Panthers come to the Meadowlands, Big Blue can count on Thomas, Corey Webster, and safeties Antrel Rolle and hopefully Kenny Phillips to shut down Carolina's Steve Smith and less heralded WR's like Dwayne Jarrett and Brandon LaFell while getting another crack at QB Matt Moore who annihilated New York's defense in a 41-9 victory in Week 16 of last season; the Giants' final game at Giants Stadium. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn't get softer from there, as Week 2 calls for the G-Men to travel to Indianapolis, where anyone can tell you that you need every good defensive back and more to have a chance against Peyton Manning and his cast of pass-catchers. Stay tuned for updates on Ross' progression, because the value of the Giants defense will shift accordingly.

Aaron Ross Has Plantar Fasciitis Injury

Email Post Email Post

Update: New York Giants CB Aaron Ross has been diagnosed with a tear in his plantar fasciitis, the New York Daily News reports. It is unknown how long it will take Ross to recover, but his return in time for the regular season opener in questionable.

Fantasy Impact: Ross is the team's 3rd cornerback and 1st punt returner. After Ross, the Giants are fairly thin at CB, so his return is crucial to the team's success.

Vikings Trade For WR

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN.com reported on Wednesday that the Minnesota Vikings have traded CB Benny Sapp to the Miami Dolphins for WR Greg Camarillo. The trade came not too long after after the Vikings found out that Sidney Rice will miss at least 8 weeks, and possibly the entire year.

Fantasy Impact: Camarillo could be an intriguing play in fantasy. With Rice out, and possibly Percy Harvin out with migraines, Camarillo could see the field early and often for the Vikings. His career high in receptions is 55, but with a great quarterback like Favre and enough opportunities, the sure-handed receiver could have a career-best year.
