Email Post Email Post

Update: Dennis J. Georgatos is reporting that Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell's injury is not serious. He suffered a stinger and was carted off the field in Saturday's preseason game. He expected to be ready for the season opener.

Fantasy Impact: It looks like Campbell avoided a serious injury. Campbell remains a draft day value as a late round back up QB.

Photo Story: Joe Girardi struggles to deal with Cubs rumors

This past weekend, the Yankees visited Chicago for a three game set with the White Sox. New York won two out of three to maintain its first place tie with the Rays in the AL East, but the Yankees and manager Joe Girardi were not able to get out of town without a little bit of controversy.

The controversy wasn’t about the team on Chicago’s south side, however; rather, it had to do with the team that plays its home games on the city’s northern end, which just happens to not have a manager lined up for next year, and which also just happens to be Girardi’s former stomping grounds.

As we were when LeBron was making his Decision, and when Brett Favre was trying to decide whether or not to retire, MSF was there with our camera to capture the most important moments:

In a 24 hour period, as the Washington Nationals were knocking around St. Louis  — and perhaps ruining the Cards’ playoff chances —  they also knocked the Cardinals around…literally.

Three times in fact.

Ohio State is 1-0 all-time against Marshall, with the lone win coming against the Thundering Herd in 2004. The Buckeyes pulled off the victory 24-21 with a last second 55-yard field goal by Mike Nugent. He was their best offensive player that year, so Ohio State went on to a mediocre 8-4 season while Marshall finished 6-6 in 2004.

Now, six years later, the Buckeyes and Thundering Herd take the field again. Marshall is the overwhelming underdog, but the Buckeyes have a history of playing supposedly lesser competition close during the season’s early weeks.

Trent Cole Has Ankle Sprain

Email Post Email Post

Update: Philadelphia Eagles DE Trent Cole suffered a mild ankle sprain Friday against the Chiefs. Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Cole had an MRI which revealed no structural damage. He is listed as day-to-day.

Fantasy Impact: Cole is one the league's best and most underrated defensive ends. 2009 was another superb year for him, recording 12.5 sacks and earning his second Pro Bowl bid. Cole is crucial to the Eagles success on defense, so losing him for any regular season games would be costly.

McNabb In Question For Opener

Email Post Email Post

Update: Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb has been sidelined over the past several days with an ankle injury that was not believed to be serious. But according to the AP, head coach Mike Shanahan is not sure if McNabb will be ready for the regular season opener against the Cowboys.

Fantasy Impact: The Redskins had a dreadful 2009 season, going just 4-12. After adding McNabb via a trade, Washington hopes to improve and potentially fight for a wildcard spot. The weapons McNabb has around him in Washington aren't as good as the ones he had in Philadelphia, so drafting him in fantasy as a number 1 QB is risky. With worse skill players around him and lingering injuries, McNabb should be drafted as a backup QB.

Jets Have Interest In Adalius Thomas

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, the New York Jets have expressed interest in free-agent LB Adalius Thomas. The Jets lost Calvin Pace for several weeks and Thomas would come in to provide depth.

Fantasy Impact: The Jets have a plethora of good pass-rushers, but adding another one could not hurt. Thomas is not the player he once was, but he can still get to the quarterback and the ball carrier.

Laveranues Coles Released

Update: Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the New York Jets have released WR Laveranues Coles. Coles was signed in the off-season but was brought in as an insurance policy more than anything.

Fantasy Impact: Releasing Coles does not hurt the Jets. If he made the roster he would rarely see the field. Coles previously said the Jets would be his last stop, so he may consider retirement.

Bengals Cut Antonio Bryant

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Cincinnati Bengals have cut WR Antonio Bryant, James Walker of ESPN reports. The team signed the receiver in the off-season but he has not been healthy. The Bengals will play Bryant $8 million.

Fantasy Impact: Bryant is a talented receiver, but it is hard to help when not healthy. The Bengals have plenty of talented veteran and young receivers so this is not a big loss at all. If and when Bryant gets healthy there should be a lot of interest in him.

New Viking Receivers Contribute

Email Post Email Post

Update: Over the past week, the Minnesota Vikings added 2 wide receivers to the roster, trading for Greg Camarillo and signing free-agent Javon Walker. On Saturday in their debuts with the team, they both played well. Camarillo caught 4 passes for 47 yards, and Walker caught 2 balls for 32 yards, including a touchdown.

Fantasy Impact: With Sidney Rice out at least 8 weeks, both Camarillo and Walker will get playing time. Camarillo will likely see the field more often, especially in the slot as he is a very reliable receiver. Camarillo could be an intriguing pick up in fantasy football if he develops good chemistry with Brett Favre. He may potentially end up being a solid play as a 3rd WR or flex.

Arian Foster Impressive In Win

Email Post Email Post

Update: During training camp, the Houston Texans lost RB Ben Tate for the year, who they hoped would start. Without Tate, RB Arian Foster is getting a chance as the starter, and he is impressing. On Saturday against the Cowboys, Forster carried the ball 18 times for 110 yards and 1 touchdown. He also caught 4 balls for 16 yards.

Fantasy Impact: Foster could be somewhat of a sleeper in fantasy this year. He will likely come off the board in the middle rounds, but could put up numbers to be worthy of a 2nd or 3rd round selection. His backup, Steve Slaton, has talent but also has the tendency to fumble the ball, thus making Foster the easy choice to carry the ball the majority of the time in Houston.

Stallworth Breaks Foot

Email Post Email Post

Update: Gregg Rosenthal of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Baltimore Ravens WR Donte' Stallworth broke a bone in his foot on Saturday. Stallworth missed 2009 with a suspension, and will likely miss at least half of 2010 with this injury. He will need surgery and have a screw inserted in his foot.

Fantasy Impact: The Ravens hoped that Stallworth would play a significant role in their offense, especially as a slot receiver. The speedy Stallworth has always been a good threat down the field, so the Ravens will certainly miss that while he's out.

Campbell Carted Off The Field

Email Post Email Post

Update: Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell was carted off the field on Saturday, but Nancy Gay of FOXSports.com reports that Campbell suffered just a stinger. Campbell got injured after taking a blindside hit from Travis LaBoy.

Fantasy Impact: Many people feel that the Raiders will be much improved this season, and Campbell is one of the big reasons why. Oakland finally has a reliable quarterback, and Campbell makes them a respectable passing team. 2009 was a solid season for Campbell as he threw for 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns. If Oakland gets that from him this season, in addition to a good ground game, the Raiders could see themselves fighting for a playoff spot come seasons end.
