Malcolm Kelly Finally Practicing

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN is reporting that Washington Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly is on the field practicing for the first time this preseason. He has been suffering from a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Impact: Kelly is buried on the depth chart behind Santana Moss, Joey Galloway, and Devin Thomas. Kelly will not have any value unless someone here gets injured. There is still a chance he gets cut since Head Coach Mike Shanahan has not seen him this preseason.

Colledge Wins Battle For Starting LG

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee is reporting that Green Bay Packers LG Daryn Colledge will be the starter for the season opener verse the Philadelphia Eagles. He was competing with first round pick Bryan Bulaga. Head Coach Mike McCarthy said,” I think it is accurate that Daryn Colledge will be the starting left guard in Philadelphia". Colledge has been the starter since 2006. Bulaga has been bothered by a hip flexor.

Fantasy Impact: Colledge is a proven veteran and its good news for Aaron Rodgers because he wont have to worry about a rookie starting on the offensive line.

Dez Bryant Will Play Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: Matt Mosley of Espn is reporting that Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant will play Thursday night in the Cowboys final preseason game. Bryant tweeted "Back in action Thursday night!!!!!" There is still no confirmation from the Cowboys organization.

Fantasy Impact: Bryant was not expected to play at all in the preseason so he is clearly ahead of schedule. Bryant will be either the number 2 or 3 receiver. It is still tough for rookie a WR to start and make an impact in there rookie year.

Cowboys Cut 3

Email Post Email Post

Update: Espn is reporting that Dallas Cowboys have cut 3 players. S Pat Watkins, TE Scott Sicko and WR Terrell Hudgins were all released today.

Fantasy Impact: There are no surprises here as these players were only roster depth and they were not expected to make the team.

RB Williams could be most valuable in DC

Email Post Email Post

Update: With all of the focus of which running back will have the biggest impact on the Redskins surrounding Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, and Willie Parker, it is a younger, less-heralded back that will wind up being the biggest star out of Washington's backfield in 2010. With Portis already dealing with an injury, Parker showing clear signs of his best days being in the rearview mirror, and Johnson not even guaranteed to make the team, there are 300 plus-carries left on the table for third-year back Ryan Torain and rookie runner Keiland Williams. Torain carried the ball a mere 15 times in his two seasons in Denver (albeit for 69 yards and 1 TD) and has not responded well since the 17 carries he was asked to take in the first preseason game against Buffalo, rushing for just 3.1 yards per carry on the preseason. Undrafted rookie Keiland Williams out of LSU has been much more consistent, having gained 68 yards on 17 carries through the preseason, while also contributing steadily in the passing game, catching 5 balls for 68 yards. Williams is probably the most valuable Redskins running back in 2010.

Fantasy Impact: Mike Shanahan had an offensive juggernaut for years in Denver, though he never used a 1st-round pick nor was overly aggressive in free agency in pursuing established running backs. We know who Reuben Droughns, Mike Anderson, Tatum Bell, Peyton Hillis, and even backs with more prolonged success like Clinton Portis and Terrell Davis are, largely because of Shanahan. Anyone who thought that Shanahan was going to construct his backfield as a concoction of over-the-hill former Pro Bowlers just doesn't know him very well. He knows as well as anybody that it takes youth and fresh legs to get production out of the backfield in this league, and on his roster, Keiland Williams is as good as it gets. Pick him up immediately.

McNabb Uncertain For Opener

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Post-Gazette is reporting that Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb may not be ready to play in the season opener. Shanahan said, "He is not certain". Mcnabb is suffering from a sprained left ankle and has not practiced since the 2nd preseason game. Mcnabb will not play in the Redskins final preseason game.

Fantasy Impact: Mcnabb has missed a lot of games in his career due to various injuries. This shouldn't be taken lightly. Make sure to have another QB that can start in case Mcnabb can't play in the season opener or if this injury lingers on.

Amari Spievey Impressing Coaches

Email Post Email Post

Update: Dave Birkett a Free Press Sports Writer is reporting that Detroit Lions CB Amari Spievey is making a smooth transition to Safety. Spievey had 6 tackles and a sack in Saturday's preseason game. He was drafted in the third round as a CB but struggled early in camp with man coverage.

Fantasy Impact: The Lions have had a few injuries to there starting safeties C.C. Brown (forearm) and Louis Delmas (groin). They need someone to step up and play. It looks Spievey could be that guy. The Detroit Lions defense still will not be fantasy relevant this year.

Adalius Thomas Has Interest With The Jets

Email Post Email Post

Update: Peter King Of sportsillustrated.com is reporting that free agent LB Adalius Thomas has interest in signing with the New York Jets. Thomas said the Jets have interest in him but "not until after the first game of the season." Thomas was released after 3 disappointing years with the New England Patriots. The Jets also lost Starting OLB Calvin Pace for 6 weeks.

Fantasy Impact: This could be a perfect match for Thomas who was a star under Rex Ryan with the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets are going to need a replacement for Calvin Pace and Thomas would be the best fit. If the Jets sign Thomas it could actually increase there fantasy potential.

Farve’s Ankle Already Bothering Him

Email Post Email Post

Update: Peter King Of sportsillustrated.com is reporting that Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre received an injection of lubricant into his ankle after Saturday's preseason game. Favre had the ankle operated on in May.

Fantasy Impact: This is not a good sign for Farve. If your drafting Favre make sure to get a quality back up QB. Favre has the potential to have a big year but it looks like the ankle plus the loss of WR Sydney Rice is going to bring him down.

Bruce Gradkowski Solidifies Back Up QB Job

Email Post Email Post

Update: Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski's performance was good enough to keep the back up QB job. Gradkowski went 14-for-22 for 202 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's preseason game. He was competing with QB Kyle Boller.

Fantasy Impact: If starting QB Jason Campbell is not ready for the season opener because of the stinger he suffered Gradkowski will start in his place. Gradkowski played well and looks like he has chemistry with the receivers. Gradkowski will only have fantasy value if Campbell has a major injury.

Schilens Out 3-6 Weeks

Email Post Email Post

Update: Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland Raiders WR Chaz Schilens is out 3-6 weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery last week. The Raiders originally thought Schilens would be back for the season opener.

Fantasy Impact: The injury to Schilens appears more serious then the Raiders initially thought. Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy are now the starting receivers. Both of these guys are worth late round draft picks as Campbell as to throw it to someone. Heyward-Bey has the highest upside of either so choose him. This also means a slight bump in value for TE Zach Miller.
