Redskins sign Tyrone Carter

Email Post Email Post

Update: Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post is reporting that the Washington Redskins signed free agent safety Tyrone Carter. Carter was needed after starting S Kareem Moore injured his knee and will be out for a few weeks. Linebacker Chris Draft was released to make room for Carter. Carter played the last 3 seasons with the Steelers.

Fantasy Impact: The signing is for depth but if Kareem Moore can't start the season Tyrone Carter will be an adequate replacement. The Redskins defense still is not fantasy worthy.

Vikings to Sign Javon Walker

Email Post Email Post

Update: Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting the Minnesota Vikings have reached a deal with free agent WR Javon Walker. Walker last played with the Oakland raiders.

Fantasy Impact: The Vikings top WR's Rice and Harvin have lingering injuries and may not be ready to start the season. This move shows the Vikings are worried that at least one of them will not be ready. Rice and Harvin should move down on the draft board a little. Walker had his best season with Favre and Walker is worth the late round flyer. Bernard Berrian is the real winner here. He is finally healthy and could potentially start the season as the Number 1 or 2 WR.

Vincent Jackson Talking to Seattle

Email Post Email Post

Update: Michael Lombardi of NFL.com is reporting that the San Diego Chargers have granted WR Vincent Jackson the ability to talk to the Seattle Seahawks about a contract extension. A trade is not close to happening but it appears likely.

Fantasy Impact: Jackson will not lower his contract demands and the Chargers will not pay him. Jackson is set to holdout. Malcolm Floyd becomes the number 1 receiver for the Chargers and is worth his current draft price. Even if Jackson gets traded to Seattle its hard to see him doing well this year after missing most of the preseason.

Seahawks’ Okung out 2-4 weeks

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora is reporting that Seahawks rookie left tackle Russell Okung will be out two to four weeks with a sprained ankle. The injury was originally believed to be a high ankle sprain, which would likely take at least two months to heal, so the relatively modest nature of this news is at least good for the Seahawks.

Fantasy Impact: Simply put, the Seahawks need improved offensive line play, especially a big year out of Okung, if they are going to make significant progress in the first year of the Pete Carroll era. Missing 2-4 weeks is certainly a lot better than missing 2 months, but for the sake of starting 2010 with a bang, Seattle is banking on the time of incapacitation being closer to two weeks than four, because missing four weeks would mean missing the season opener at home against the rival San Francisco 49ers. Anyone familiar with this squad will know that their head coach Mike Singletary will make pressuring quarterback Matt Hasselbeck a top priority and that the Niners are angry about losing the last game they played in Seattle.

Eldridge Opening Eyes

Update: Gregg Rosenthal of NBC Sports is reporting that Indianapolis Colts TE Brody Eldridge is having a nice camp and will be the number 2 TE. Eldridge played well in their last preseason game and is stretching the field. The colts selected him in the 5th round of this year’s draft.

Fantasy Impact: This is just another weapon for Peyton Manning. Dallas Clark is the teams top TE and his job his secure. Eldridge won’t provide much value unless Clark gets injured but it’s important that the Colts have another TE that could stretch the field.

Bears Sign Todd Collins

Update: Chicagobears.com is reporting that the Chicago Bears have signed 15-year veteran QB Todd Collins to a 1-year deal. Collins played for the Washington Redskins last year.
Fantasy Impact: The Bears weren't happy with there back up QBs and signed Collins. He has only started 3 games since 1998. Cutler should not have to worry about losing his job to Collins.

Hardesty Expected To Sit Out Next Preseason Game

Update: Mary Kay Cabot of the The Plain Dealer is reporting that Cleveland RB Montario Hardesty will sit out Saturday’s preseason game. Hardesty has yet to play this preseason because of a knee injury. He is expected to be ready for week 1.
Fantasy Impact: Hardesty is competing with RB Jerome Harrison for the starting RB. It’s hard to see Hardesty winning the job if he does not play at all during the preseason. Draft Harrison has the starter but Hardesty could win the job mid-season.

Gibril Wilson Has Severe Knee Injury

Update: Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com is reporting that Cincinnati Bengals' S Gibril Wilson has an unknown knee injury. Coach Marvin Lewis made this announcement Monday morning "it is looking like the Bengals won't have Wilson this year". It is believed he tore his MCL or ACL but it is unconfirmed.

Fantasy Impact: Wilson was only the 4th safety on the depth chart. He was not going to be a starter so this should not affect there fantasy value. The Bengals have a solid defense are considered a top 10 fantasy defense.

Rams Sign Alexander

Update: Jim Thomas of STLToday.com is reporting that the ST. Louis Rams signed WR Danario Alexander to a 2-year deal. The Rams released WR Brooks Foster, a fifth-round pick in 2009 to make room on the roster for Alexander.

Fantasy Impact: Alexander is only depth for the Rams. He will not have fantasy value

Leon Washington To Start Next Preseason Game

Email Post Email Post

Update: Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com is reporting that Seattle Seahawks RB Leon Washington will start the Seahawks next preseason game. Washington was signed as a free agent from the Jets and is finally recovered from a broken leg that ended is 2009 season.

Fantasy Spin: Its still an open competition for the starting RB in Seattle. It’s between Julius Jones, Justin Forsett, Washington. Forsett is the most talented RB of the trio and his the most likely to win it. Washington has the ability to become the third down back if he is healthy similar to his role with the Jets

Alex Smith Looks Sharp

Email Post Email Post

Update: Phil Barber of the Press Democrat is reporting that San Francisco 49ers' QB Alex Smith looked sharp in Sunday's preseason game. He completed 9 of 13 passes for 88 yards for a passer rating of 88. This was done without the 49ers three top offensive players RB Frank Gore, TE Vernon Davis, and WR Michael Crabtree.

Fantasy Spin: Alex Smith's performance was much better then his first preseason game. Preseason games don't mean much but you still want to see the player play well. Smith is a solid fantasy back up with upside.
