Dallas Clark To Be Ready For Opener

Email Post Email Post

Update: Indianapolis Colts TE Dallas Clark hasn't practiced or played in over 10 days after suffering an injury in training camp. It is unknown what the injury is, but Clark told the Indianapolis Star that at worst he will be back for the regular season opener.

Fantasy Impact: Clark is one of the league's best tight ends, and 2009 was by far his best season as a pro. He had 100 receptions, 1,106 yards, and 10 touchdowns. The Colts like to spread the ball around, but there is no reason to believe Clark can not replicate those numbers in 2010. He should be one of the first tight ends taken in fantasy drafts.

Bucs Sign Jevan Snead

Email Post Email Post

Update: Brad Biggs of the National Football Post is reporting that The Tampa bay Buccaneers have resigned QB Jevan Snead. The Bucs originally signed him as an undrafted free agent and he was released before training camp.

Fantasy Impact: Snead is only roster depth while starting QB Josh Freeman is recovering from a minor thumb injury.

Colt McCoy On The Bubble?

Email Post Email Post

Update: Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer is suggesting that Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy may be on the bubble to make the roster. Grossi feels that McCoy has to play better in the team's final 2 preseason games to make the roster. So far McCoy has completed just 5 of 12 passes for 25 yards this preseason. He's thrown 2 interceptions and no touchdowns.

Fantasy Impact: It seems unlikely that McCoy would be cut. He was a 3rd round draft choice, and it would be too early to give up on him. He would likely find a new team shortly after being released. He would be the 3rd QB on the roster, so the Browns should take the time to develop him.

6 Bold Predictions for the 2010 NFL Season

Email Post Email Post

Preseason predictions in any sport are like assholes: everyone’s got ‘em and usually they stink. This is especially true in the NFL, where surprises are commonplace and one year’s junk is another year’s treasure (and vice versa).

Despite all of this I am diving in head first and making a series of bold predictions for the upcoming 2010 NFL season.

And don’t worry, I’m not going to be making a bunch of soft predictions like some kind of jackwagon from Namby Pamby Land. No sir. All of these predictions will be the kind that you remember after the season and then say one of two things: 1) “Wow, that guy is an unbelievable moron!”; or 2) “Wow, that guy is an unbelievable moron but damn did he get lucky with that pick!”

Because let’s be honest: none of us really has a clue how the 2010 NFL season will turn out, not in a league where three or four plays can mean the difference between hosting a playoff game or missing the playoffs and a league that typically sees 50% turnover among its playoff teams every year. What there is in the preseason is a lot of educated guesswork, with widely varying degrees of “educated”.

I just happen to think that my educated guesswork is better than the educated guesswork of most. But I’ll let you be the judge of that, as it’s now  your turn to read, disagree, and comment. And I mean really, what else is there to do during the preseason?

Chaz Schilens has Knee Issues

Email Post Email Post

Update: Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News group is reporting that Oakland Raiders WR Chaz Schilens has visited a knee specialist on Monday about possibly having knee surgery. He hopes that it won’t side line him long.

Fantasy Impact: If Chaz Schilens can’t start the season opener the Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy would be the starters. Schilens if healthy is suppose to be the top WR in Oakland and is considered a fantasy sleeper but this could change that.

Leinart in Trouble

Email Post Email Post

Update: Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart's starting QB job in Arizona is in jeopardy. This is due to poor play this preseason.

Fantasy Impact: WR Larry Fitzgerald has the most to lose. If Leinart loses his job that means former Browns QB Derrick Anderson will be the starter. He was terrible in his last year with the Browns. The Cardinals will have to rely on the running game more and Beanie Wells will see more carries.

Mangold Reaches Extension With Jets

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jane McManus of ESPN is reporting that The New York Jets and C Nick Mangold have agreed to terms on a 7-year extension worth up to 55 million. The deal will be signed on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact: Its good to see Mangold signed and is happy. The Jets have one of the top offensive lines in the league and Mangold is a big factor. This is good news for Jets RB Shonn Green and LaDainian Tomlinson.

Antonio Brown Pushing For Roster Spot

Email Post Email Post

Update: Three Riversburgh Blog is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is making a strong case for a roster spot. He is really fast and the coaches are impressed.

Fantasy Impact: The Steelers are deep at WR with Hines Ward and Mike Wallace. Brown is only roster depth at this point but it sound like he could come in and play if injuries happen

Matt Leinart Unimpressive On Monday Night

Email Post Email Post

Update: On Monday night, Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart had an opportunity to prove on national TV that he is ready to be a starting quarterback in Arizona. After the game, there are more questions than answers about Leinart. He did complete 4 of 6 passes for 28 yards, but he looked uncomfortable at times. He struggled against the blitz and did not appear to have great command of the offense. He has yet to lead the Cardinals offense on a scoring drive this preseason.

Fantasy Impact: Leinart is not separating himself from Derek Anderson, but Anderson is not playing great either. Leinart will likely get a chance to start the season as the starting QB, but will play on a short leash and the Cardinals will not hesitate to pull him if he struggles.

Matthews Hoping to Play

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN Milwaukee is reporting that Green Bay Packers OLB Clay Matthews is hoping to play in their final preseason game. He believes he will definitely be ready for the Packers opener. Matthew's missed the first two-preseason games with a pulled hamstring and he also will not play in the preseason game Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: Matthews is a big part of the Green Bay defense. If he misses a few games it will affect them. Green Bay is a top 5 defense.

Trent Williams Says He’s Fine

Email Post Email Post

Update: Washington Redskins rookie LT Trent Williams says he's fine after suffering a forearm contusion on Saturday, Jason Reid of The Washington Post reports. Williams was seen with a sling on Saturday but he said he will practice fully this week and play in the team's preseason game on Friday.

Fantasy Impact: The Redskins hope that Williams can come in and improve the offensive line this season. The Redskins gave up 46 sacks in 2009, which was 4th most in the league, so the 4th overall pick in April's draft has some pressure on him to play well this season.

Kevin Smith Close to 100%

Email Post Email Post

Update: Dave Birkett a Free Press Sports Writer is reporting that Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith pronounced himself "close to 100% on Monday". He had 3 carries for 6 yards in the preseason game verse the Broncos. Smith tore his ACL last December.

Fantasy Impact: Rookie Jahvid Best has been the starter all preseason. If Kevin Smith is healthy for the regular season its unclear how the carries will be split. The best bet is to draft both right now and see how the backfield unfolds.

Dez Bryant Progressing, But Won’t Play

Email Post Email Post

Update: Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com reports that Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is making progress with his injured ankle, but he will not play this Saturday. Bryant hurt the ankle on July 30th, and Monday was the first time he ran and made cuts on the ankle. He wants to play in the team's preseason finale, but the Cowboys are focused on getting him back for the regular season opener.

Fantasy Impact: Bryant could be a very intriguing play in fantasy. He will likely start as the 3rd receiver on the depth chart, but he could jump Roy Williams for the number 2 spot. If he develops good chemistry with Tony Romo, he could potentially catch 50+ balls and make an immediate impact.
