Your draft is complete, and like most everyone else you’re probably feeling pretty good about your team. So it’s time to just sit back and wait for the regular season, right?
Wrong.
Do the names Miles Austin, Jamaal Charles, and Pierre Garcon mean anything to you? All of these players were major fantasy contributors last year, and all were available in nearly every league before the season began.
Imagine if you could have identified these players before their value became obvious to everyone. Here are three players who have the ability to have a huge impact this fantasy football season, and are most likely available on your waiver wire.
Jennings being available in any league that carries a roster greater than 15 tells me that there is still a lot that fantasy football owners can learn. Based on the fact that Jennings is available in over 90 percent of fantasy leagues, that is clearly the case.
Why, you ask when told that Jennings is a must have on a fantasy roster. There are two schools of thought that both apply.
If you took Maurice Jones-Drew with the third or fourth overall pick in a draft, you must obtain insurance on this pick. The only way to successfully accomplish this is to draft his back-up.
The other opinion is to take a superstar running back’s back-up, which gives you in most cases a clear cut stud while the superstar is sidelined. This maneuver also cripples the owner of the injured star back.
Jennings is a great back-up to secure for several reasons.
The Jaguars Offense lives and dies with their running back, Jones-Drew. The Jaguars organization thinks highly of Jennings, who is a talented running back and is a dual threat as a receiver out of the backfield. This in addition to the fact that the Jags have no one else on Offense that can take over a game like Jones-Drew, makes Jennings being successful in a back-up role vital to the continued success of the Jags in the event of a Maurice Jones-Drew injury.
Did I mention that Jones-Drew’s status is currently Questionable? He will sit out the remainder of the pre-season in hopes that he can physically be ready to go for the start of the NFL season. This injury involves Maurice’s knee, and can have lasting effects throughout the remainder of the Jaguars 2010 campaign.
The upside to Jennings is far too great to not have him on your roster. If you have Jones-Drew on your roster and you do not have Jennings, hopefully the last pick in your draft produces enough fantasy points for you to compensate the stress of praying for Jones-Drew to avoid injury.
