This article is a joke and it is clear how ignorant you are how the ASG team is selected.
Players select the non-starters and Ortiz was selected by the players. Girardi has niether the say nor the veto on the players selections. Girardi had say only on a couple of choices.

Ortiz was voted by the players, not Joe Girardi. He filled three of his positions with people who did not have an all star voted from their team. Um lets see that means he actually picked CC and Arod. (Two people who are responsible for him being the manager of the all star team.) I love Rios, did when he was in Toronto. Rather than complaining maybe the fans could have voted for him, huh?

While the majority of the content here shows how ignorant I am, I don't think this article is a joke. What it was, before I read your comment, was incomplete. You're correct, I failed to both mention and consider that Joe Girardi did not make all of the reserve choices. Brain fart by me that I should have remembered. Still, one of his two "open" choices was ARod, who did not deserve a spot over Konerko and others. I added a correction above; thanks for pointing this out.

Thanks for pointing this out. I've updated the post.

Excellent article, it once again points out the obvious bias in the league. The managers will always choose a marque name over a player with statistics that prove their skill. The All-Star game is a popularity contest nothing more. Okay, maybe TV ratings as well.
