Hey Kareem…why so serious?

lakers-celebrate-championship

Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers avenged their 2008 Finals loss by beating the Boston Celtics in a knock down, drag out slugfest of a Game 7.

What the game lacked in beauty and style, however, it more than made up for in heart, grit, and absolute effort.

The Lakers’ Game 7 victory also means that Kobe Bryant and his always clutch teammate Derek Fisher both have now won five NBA championships. To put that prodigious total into perspective, it is the same number of titles that legends Magic and Kareem won while wearing the gold and purple.

Hmm…could that perhaps be why Kareem is the turd in the Lakers’ celebratory punchbowl in this picture?

NBA Finals Preview: Lakers-Celtics Game 7 Will Be One For The Ages

Email Post Email Post

No hype is needed when only one game stands between two teams and a title.

Boston will begin an attempt to dissuade the appearance that they can’t win in L.A. in Game 7.  Ray Allen’s 19 points brightened a dull performance by the Celtics in Game 6, and if they plan to take home the title he’ll need to stay away from the shooting droughts that were plaguing him throughout most of the Finals.

Boston was dealt a 22 point loss as Bryant and L.A. dominated and stole the advantage going into the final game. For the Celtics, the pressure is now on.

There’s no doubt that the momentum goes to the Lakers.  Boston’s backs will be against the wall until they are able to prove that they can play comfortably in front of a hostile crowd in the Staple Center.

The Lakers jumping out to an early lead may mean the game is all but over.

Hat tip to The Big Lead for posting the below video in his roundup today.

I agree: of all the Empire State of Mind parodies, this is clearly the best one…and the choruses are cleverly hilarious.

Kobe Bryant.

Many call him the greatest player in the NBA, and you can make numerous arguments in his favor. Some call him the greatest Laker of all-time, and you can make the argument for that as well.

Then, there are the few who deem him the greatest of all-time. That could be a stretch, but still, you can make it an argument.

One thing is not arguable though; Kobe Bryant is one of the best performers ever in the NBA Finals.

Chargers set to move on without Jackson

Email Post Email Post

Update: San Diego Chargers (WR) Vincent Jackson didn’t sign his contract tender by the June 15th deadline, and the Chargers say they are planning on a season without the star wide receiver. Fantasy Impact: Jackson was a huge part of the Chargers offense last season and a great fantasy wide out, hopefully the two sides can figure something out.

Hixon out for season

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPNNewYork.com is reporting that Giants (WR) Domenik Hixon is out for the season with a turf-related knee injury. Hixon went back to return a punt on Tuesday when his foot got caught in the soft new surface.

Fantasy Impact: Hixon was thought to be a big threat for the Giants this season, so this is a big loss.

US Open Preview and Prediction: Without Control, Can Tiger Still Roar at Pebble?

2010-us-open-logo

Although professional golfers Tiger Woods and Woody Austin both obviously have “Timbery” names, only one has endured a recent, timbery fall from grace (they’ve both also endured golf clubs to the head in their careers – Woody’s being self-inflicted).

These days Tiger doesn’t have much in common with Woody Austin, or bionic man Steve Austin. These days he’s more like Austin Powers.

Quite simply: he’s lost his mojo.

On Thursday Tiger will be teeing it up at Pebble Beach, the site of his - anyone’s – largest margin of victory in major tournament golf’s history, a wonderful 15 shot victory in the 2000 US Open which many other golfers in the field that week say may be the most dominant performance in golf history.

His opus.

No movement on Atogwe

Update: The St Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that there is nothing new on free agent O.J. Atogwe, but the reports go on to say that the free safety will re-sign with the Rams.

Fantasy Impact: Atogwe should be back with the Rams this season, but he isn’t going to get the money he was asking for.

Kenny Moore impressing Panthers

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Charlotte Observer is reporting that wideout Kenny Moore has impressed Panthers receivers coach Tyke Tolbert so far this spring. Moore is fighting for a roster spot as a backup at all receiver positions.

Fantasy Impact: Moore has only hauled in six catches in his career and he has not really demonstrated he is capable of being an impact NFL wideout.

Rex Ryan meets with Darrelle Revis

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN is reporting that New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan confirmed that he met with Darrelle Revis on Tuesday night and characterized the meeting as a “great talk.” Ryan came away satisfied with Revis’ explanation on why he sat out a few plays and then made up a hamstring tweak. “It’s funny because, when it’s a football thing, we definitely see eye to eye. He knows what I expect of him and vice versa,” Ryan said.

Fantasy Impact: Revis wants a new deal, and should get one, but this isn’t going to end quickly.
