Harris could be done

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that “the odds are stacked against” Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris (knee surgery) playing football in Week 1 of the season and possibly at all this coming year.

Fantasy Impact: Harris probably won’t be ready for Week 1 but he isn’t going to go down without a fight as he is a hard worker and has a great work ethic.

Seattle would want Jackson

Email Post Email Post

Update: The NFL Network is speculating that the Seahawks could be interested if the Chargers put unsigned restricted free agent Vincent Jackson on the trade block. Jackson is currently unhappy with his contract and refused to sign the team’s tender offer.

Fantasy Impact: Jackson appears hell bent on holding out to get what he wants and that could force the Chargers to look another route and deal the wideout.   A trade to Seattle would be a good destination and fit a need for a team who lost out on Brandon Marshall.

With 2010′s version of the NBA Draft only days away, you can be sure that there will be a domino effect of trades with numerous exchanges of lottery picks both present and future.

We will have to see how these deals fit into the bigger picture Thursday night; and that bigger picture is the college ballers, the guys who are ready to take their games to the next level (even if after Thursday they will be immediately overshadowed again by all things “free agency”). Kobe Bryant is No MJ, But He is the Greatest Laker of All-Time

Email Post Email Post

Kobe Bryant’s legacy collected a few more accolades and grandeur with his fifth career title following a Game Seven win over the Celtics last week.  Bryant was exuberant after the victory, running toward the throngs of Laker fans and celebrating as if he had never conquered the NBA before.

It was reminiscent of the tears shown in Michael Jordan’s eyes when Jordan held a championship trophy in his arms for the first time.  The comparisons do not end there when it comes to Bryant and Jordan, but the greatest player to play the game remains safe for now.

Bryant is one title away from Jordan’s total, but for now, there is another part in history better suited to his name.

Slaton could be cleared

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Houston Texans team site is reporting that Texans coach Gary Kubiak is optimistic that Steve Slaton will be cleared for live contact in camp during his June 25 medical check. "Everything from our standpoint we're told should be okay, and just get him back and used to contact again will be the key," said Kubiak. "If they cut him loose, we'll go to work. We need to get his confidence back about getting hit."

Fantasy Impact:  Arian Foster was the first team running back during OTAs, and will be in the mix all season long for playing time.

The 10 Funniest Skits in the Much-Too-Brief History of Chappelle’s Show

Email Post Email Post
dave-chappelle

In the Midwest, we argue about a lot of things when it comes to sports.

White Sox-Cubs. Cubs-Cardinals. Indiana-Purdue. Ohio State-Michigan. Notre Dame-everyone else. I could go on and on and on.

While most of it is good natured, there are strict battle lines drawn and most Midwestern sports fans staunchly support their teams and viewpoints, with little bend and rarely any break; but despite this polarization of opinion when it comes to sports, there are some things that are universally agreed upon.

Today, I decided to step outside of the sports world to celebrate something that, in my experience, is beloved and appreciated by all Midwesterners – at least the ones that I know.

That something is Chappelle’s Show, hosted by the great Dave Chappelle.

Damn, that’s a big, nasty (Roethlis)burger!

friendly's-grilled-cheese-burger-melt-ben-roethlisberger

I found out today that the restaurant chain Friendly’s has come out with a new “burger” called the Grilled Cheese Burger Melt that is almost guaranteed to give you an instant heart attack. (That is, unless you’ve been working out by eating KFC’s Double Down, in which case you should be in shape for this challenge.)

The hook? Instead of a bun, there is a full grilled cheese sandwich on top and a full grilled cheese on the bottom…with the meat, veggies, and condiments in between.

Seriously. I’m not kidding.

Rather than give you the gory “nutritional” details, I figured we’d do it SAT style and use a simple analogy that everyone should understand to illustrate how this new Grilled Cheese Burger Melt compares to normal burgers:

Moore signs one year tender with the Saints

Email Post Email Post

Update: New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore held off on signing his tender until now because he wanted a long term deal, but that never came. Moore signed a 1 year 1.76 million dollar tender. Fantasy Impact: Moore was the Saints leading receiver in 2008, but was hampered by injuries most of last season. With the Saints prolific offense, Moore could be destined for a big season.

Smith breaks arm

Email Post Email Post

Update: Carolina Panthers star wide receiver Steve Smith broke his arm during a flag football game. Smith had surgery on Sunday night for the injury, and his agent doesn’t think he will miss any regular season games. The good news is that it’s an upper body injury so he can still try to stay in decent shape. Fantasy Impact: This is a big blow for a team who needs all the practice they can get between QB and WR with new starter Matt Moore and backup Jimmy Clausen. Also it could be bad news for the stud Running backs the Panthers have if Smith does miss any games, because teams will stack the box against them and make them throw.

Titans Top pick Morgan charged after traffic stop

Update: Tennessee Titans top pick Derrick Morgan was charged with a suspended license, and going 91 mph in a 70 zone…..Morgan was arrested and released on bail. Fantasy Impact: Morgan is going to be a big part of the Titans defensive line this season with Vanden Bosch gone, so hopefully nothing too serious comes of this.

John Wall: The Savior of DC?

John Wall.

Coming fresh from the hands of Coach Calipari after leading the Kentucky Wildcats deep into the NCAA Tournament and the ripe age of 19.

Not a bad resume, eh?

John Wall at such a young age is supposedly the next best thing since LeBron James stepped out of the high school shadows. He even appeared on the cover of SLAM magazine as a high school jock.
