Seeing as how 12:00 ET tonight marks one of the most important, seismic single moments in NBA history, I had planned on providing useful analysis (you know, like I did yesterday).

However, luckily we are blessed to have two informative and insightful writers here at MSF who decided to tackle the subject this afternoon. Devon provided his predictions for the top 5 free agents while Drew analyzed the overlooked key to the impending free agency frenzy.

What did I choose to do? Well, certainly nothing useful. I closed my eyes and tried to conjure up the most ridiculous scenario possible for what could be going on right now as LeBron tries to make The Decision That Will Change Everything.

Here is what I came up with (and just remember that there are few things I think are as funny as Philip Rivers and his funny facial expressions.)

Who’s Going Where? Predictions for the Top 5 NBA Free Agents

Email Post Email Post

LeBron James. Dwyane Wade. Chris Bosh. Joe Johnson. Amar’e Stoudemire.

Without a doubt, those are the five names we will be hearing about most (if you’re not sick of them already) as soon as midnight strikes on good ‘ol July 1st.

Why?

Well, simply put, because each and everyone one of these players will not have an NBA team, will be in search of one, and will be in high demand.

Some might team up, some might go solo (again), others might make a trio, and could some go to Europe (okay, probably not). But heck, no one knows, especially when those so called “sources” are claiming that there are meetings being held in Miami, Chicago, via Skype, at LeBron’s house, and anywhere else you can imagine.

Whatever happens though, one thing is for sure: it will indeed change the course of the NBA’s future.

I’m not going to start this post pretending that you all don’t know about the upcoming NBA Free Agency on July 1st, so I’m going to get straight to the point.

It doesn’t matter which team all of the free agents go to; it matters what those teams have left when they arrive.

Source: Seattle has inside track to land LeBron-DWade-Bosh trio

Email Post Email Post
lebron-dwade

Over the last 24 hours we have seen reports that LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh spent this past weekend in Miami discussing how they could split up Miami’s remaining cap room to form a seemingly indomitable superstar triumverate.

We’ve also seen reports that directly contradict this, saying that Wade wasn’t even in South Florida this past weekend.

How can this be? Well, because they are both dead wrong.

Sensing the potential for blogging arbitrage with this recent barrage of contradictory reporting by the mainstream media, I decided to dig into my own contact list and see if I could tease out something closer to the actual truth. Serendipitously, and much to even my own surprise, I was able to do just that.

And here is what I found: it is Seattle (yes, Seattle) – not Chicago, not Miami, and not New York – that has the inside track to land all three superstars.

Benson arrested

Email Post Email Post

Update: Bengals running back Cedric Benson has been arrested and charged with assault for an altercation at a bar on May 30, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Officials say that Benson got into a fight around 1:50 a.m. with an unknown person inside a bar in Austin, Texas. He allegedly was being escorted out of the bar when he punched a bar employee in the face and then the affidavit says Benson spit blood from his injured lip at an employee.

Fantasy Impact:  Right in the midst of negotiations for a new contract and this happens.  Expect a suspension to be handed down for this incident.

Best talks yet to begin

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the agent for first-round pick Jahvid Best revealed that he’s not yet begun talks with the Lions about a rookie contract.

Fantasy Impact:  Best was taken 30th overall and this deal should get done shortly.  Best should not miss any time and should be in camp on time.

Lions waive Medlock and Quarterman

Email Post Email Post

Update: Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions have waived K Justin Medlock and OG Kurt Quarterman.

Fantasy Impact:  Medlock really should have been able to make the practice roster, but was unable to do it.  He may end up finding another gig some place else.

Scott to replace Colon

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette considers Jonathan Scott the Steelers’ most likely replacement at right tackle for Willie Colon (Achilles’ tear).

Fantasy Impact: The Steelers aren’t going to settle with Scott as they will surely look around for something better.  But for now he is the best option.

LT2 wants to start

Email Post Email Post

Update: Newly acquired Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio for a SportsCenter interview that he believes he’s competing with Shonn Greene to start. “I think the best man is gonna win the starting job,” Tomlinson said. Greene is without question the superior player, so he’s the favorite in everyone’s eyes, including LT’s. “I’m tired of being doubted by so many people about what I can do,” Tomlinson added.

Fantasy Impact: Tomlinson needs to recognize that Greene is the younger back, and is most likely going to win the starting gig.  There is no doubt the Jets will give Tomlinson some work, but it most likely isn’t going to be the featured role.

Westbrook acquitted of DUI

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Washington Post is reporting Redskins CB Byron Westbrook has been acquitted of DUI and several other charges stemming from his mid-February arrest. He’d been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired, negligent driving, and failing to stay on the right side of the road.

Fantasy Impact:  Given he was found not guilty on all accounts, he should not see any suspension from the league.

No new deal yet for D-Jax

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the Eagles and standout wide receiver DeSean Jackson have yet to enter contract extension talks.

Fantasy Impact: Jackson got himself a new agent this offseason, and although he is saying he won’t hold out, it will be interesting to see him that happens should the Eagles not give him a new deal before training camp starts.  This could get ugly.

Eagles claim Johnson from Bills

Email Post Email Post

Update: Adam Caplan from Scout.com is reporting via Twitter that the Philadelphia Eagles claimed Brett Johnson off waivers from the Bills.

Fantasy Impact: Johnson is a very good athlete and is mobile, but he is probably nothing more than a camp body for the Birds should he even last that long.

Browns sign Clifton Geathers

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Cleveland Browns have signed sixth-round pick, defensive Clifton Geathers to a multi-year contract. Terms of the deal were not immediately released.

Fantasy impact: Geathers left school early, and many believe that it hurt his draft stock as he is not said to be NFL ready.  He is a raw talent that could eventually grow into a very solid pro.
