Welker timetable uncertain

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Oklahoman is reporting Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker (ACL, MCL surgery, torn rotator cuff) admits that "it's hard to put any sort of timetable on" his recovery. Welker did say he's "happy" with his progress so far, and it's remarkable that he's already able to jog three months after knee reconstruction. "No telling when that’s going to be or how long it’s going to take," he said, "but all I can do is just work hard."

Fantasy Impact:  Welker isn't going to be ready for Week 1 as it would be a miracle for that to happen.  A realistic expectation is that the team could get him back before Week 6.

The Dumbest Sports Fans EVER!

Email Post Email Post

Fans.

They make up our sports society in a very…well…colorful, unique, and sometimes stupid way. Regardless, they are the living and breathing proof that we in America simply love our sports.

There is the typical fan who will go to a game once a year and regularly watch their team on TV. There is the “fake” fan, who roots for the team just because and has no idea who plays what position, what the standings are, and who won last night. Then there is the die hard fan who gets season tickets, has the text alerts, and brags about his team as if it were some sort of religion!

Yes, there are all sorts of fans.

And then there are the fans whom we don’t forget. The really dumb ones. The one who runs naked, the one who gets tased, and the ones who try to fight a player. That is why I am writing this article: to dedicate one post to the dumbest of the dumb. Enjoy!

Cushing may lose award

Email Post Email Post

Update: Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing may be stripped of his Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award, ESPN is reporting. Cushing was suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the league's steroid policy.

Fantasy Impact: Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Cushing was tested last September. Furthermore, Cushing took and passed a lie-detector test to prove he was not guilty of taking performance-enhancing drugs, but his suspension stands nonetheless.

Payton: No interest in Russell

Email Post Email Post

Update: The New Orleans Saints are not interested in signing former LSU star JaMarcus Russell, the Associated Press is reporting. Coach Sean Payton doesn't think now would be the right move to bring in Russell.

Fantasy Impact: Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, was released last week by the Raiders after three poor seasons.

Pacman signs with Bengals

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to ESPN, Adam 'Pacman' Jones signed with the Bengals Monday. The troubled cornerback will practice with the team Tuesday. According to a source, the Bengals inserted language in the two-year contract to protect them if Jones finds trouble off the field.

Fantasy Impact: A lot of people are attacking Mike Brown and the Bengals for this move, but Jones is going to have to bust his behind to make the team. The Bengals may have the best corner tandem in the league with Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall. Also, second-year player Morgan Trent had a solid rookie year and the team also drafted Brandon Ghee in the third round in April's draft.

Minor League Player Tracker – Level A+ (Pitchers) for AL/NL/Dynasty Leagues

Email Post Email Post

Most of the pitchers on this list are at least 2-3 years away from fantasy impact; but they are on the cusp of being potential top 100 prospects in 2011.

Randall Delgado was a player I was targeting last year at this time and he is really starting to come on with the Braves. A promotion to AA could be in his future, but he is still very young.

Most of these arms will have a fantasy impact in 2011; top arms are dynasty caliber and should be owned.

Mike Montgomery was recently promoted; Perez and Pineda are potential front line starters as soon as 2012.

Be on the look out for these players to be called up June 1st or just after the arbitration clock gives teams 1 extra year.

Brett Wallace should step into the Toronto 1b position as Lyle Overbay is hitting under .200.

Minor League Player Tracker – Level AA (Hitters) for Dynasty Leagues

Email Post Email Post

These are some of the guys you want to keep an eye on for all dynasty leagues, but also 2011 redraft leagues.

Guys like Mike Stanton should get a September callup, with an eye on 2011 Spring Training.  Stanton is doing his best Mark McGwire impersonation, while the Cubs recently pulled the trigger on Starlin Castro and saw him set a MLB record for RBI in a debut.

Stanton could be used for #1 waivers upon call up so if you have it – hold on to it.

Some Music Video Entertainment For Your Cavs-Celtics Off Day

Email Post Email Post
mo-williams-gooseneck

The Cavs lost to Rajon F’ing Rondo and the Celtics yesterday, knotting their best of seven series at two games a piece.

Game 5 will be in Cleveland on Tuesday night, with two potential sweeps occurring this evening if Orlando and the Lakers take care of business. (For the record, I think Orlando does but LA doesn’t.)

Cleveland fans probably won’t want to watch Orlando play tonight because the dirty little secret of this year’s playoffs (that probably isn’t a secret anymore) is that the Magic are probably better than they were last year.

No, they don’t have Hedo anymore, but they do have Jameer Nelson and Vince Carter. And while the Cavs have Shaq and Antawn Jamison, even the most ardent Cavs supporter has to be at least a little worried about how up and down the team has played during the playoffs.

So instead of watching basketball tonight, here are a few music videos I was sent this morning that I suggest Cavs fans watch. Hopefully the power of the Gooseneck can help the Cavs come out on Fire Tuesday night.

Blackhawks are in Perfect Form to Put Away Vancouver

Email Post Email Post

The Blackhawks went into Vancouver and brought everything they had, winning both games and taking a definite command over the series, now being up 3-1.

With the Hawks heading back to the United Center for Sunday night’s game, all signs point towards the Hawks putting the Canucks out of their misery and taking the series.

Besides the first game of the series, the goaltending battle is being won by Hawks’ net-minder, Antti Niemi. He’s been rock solid for the Hawks, not perfect, but he doesn’t need to be when your team can score seven goals, and make Luongo look like a rookie goalie.

Haynesworth absent again

Email Post Email Post

Update: Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was absent again from the team's voluntary minicamp on Friday according to the Associated Press. Haynesworth is unhappy with the team's switch to a 3-4 defense and would prefer to be traded. Coach Mike Shanahan has said that Haynesworth will not be traded.

Fantasy Impact: Haynesworth has been nothing short of a headache for Shanahan. Haynesworth has been working out with his own trainer and staying away from the team. He has been paid $32 of the $41 million guaranteed to him in his contract.

Browns would play McCoy

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting Browns president Mike Holmgren has clarified his stance on Colt McCoy, now saying, "Heck, if he's the guy, he plays."  The Browns brought in Jake Dlehomme after dealing Brady Quinn and releasing Derek Anderson, but Delhomme has played some horrible football lately.

Fantasy Impact:  Seneca Wallace might get the first shot if Delhomme falters, but head coach Eric Mangini knows his job is on a short leash so if he thinks McCoy gives him the best shot to win, he is going to play him.
