It’s Absolutely Key That The Blackhawks Stay Aggressive in Chicago

Email Post Email Post
Bolland has done a terrific job keeping the pressure on the Sharks' top lineOk, I am getting a little ahead of myself, probably due to my excitement to be seeing my Hawks playing so well on the big stage. Nobody should count out the Sharks just yet, but their stars' lack of production is killing them. Kudos to the Hawks' top line to stopping the Sharks' top line.

The Hawks have had some unbelievable success on the road this postseason, winning a postseason record seven straight road games.

In sharp contrast, the Hawks are an even .500 at home this postseason, and with a commanding 2-0 series lead against the Sharks the Hawks must play the same type of game as at home as they do away from home.

The series heads back to Chicago Friday and Sunday, and with a win in at least one of those games the Hawks will have set them up nicely to put it away back in San Jose. But two wins would mean a series sweep and a huge moral boost heading into the Stanley Cup finals.

Ned Yost Thrives in K.C. as Brewers Struggle

Email Post Email Post
ned-yost-brewers

At the end of the 2008 season, Ned Yost and the Milwaukee Brewers were at opposite ends of the success totem pole.

The Crew had just made the playoffs for the first time in 26 years, but not without having a September slump that cost Yost his job.

Now, just two years later, the table has been turned.

Yost recently took over as manager of the lowly, often pathetic Kansas City Royals. Sounds like Ned’s out the door again after this season, being stuck with the Royals and all, right?

Well not so fast, my friend.

If things continue the way they’ve started in the Yost Era in Kansas City, then he just might be a permanent fixture there.

Mikhail Prokhorov

Never heard of this guy? You better start remembering how to spell the name (I’m still having trouble), because if you’re an NBA fan like me, then this guy will play a big role over the next 1-5 years for sure and perhaps beyond.

Why?

Because according to him, the New Jersey Nets will win a championship “…in 1 year, minimum, and maximum 5 years.”

Yeah, you heard right.

Report: Moss got HGH from Galea

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Washington Post is reporting, via an unnamed source, that Redskins' wide receiver Santana Moss received human growth hormone from Anthony Galea, the Canadian doctor who is charged with providing illegal drugs to professional athletes. Moss and the Redskins declined comment.

Fantasy Impact: Galea is accused of unlawfully treating professional athletes, smuggling and unlawful distribution of human growth hormone. Galea's lawyer claims his client did nothing wrong. If this accusation is true, Moss' credibility will take a major hit.

Marshall out until camp

Email Post Email Post

Update: A source has told ESPN that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall had surgery on his hip at some point this offseason. Coach Tony Sparano did not disclose the nature of Marshall's injury, which has kept him off the practice field, but did say his star receiver will be out until training camp.

Fantasy Impact: This marks the third time Marshall has had some sort of hip procedure, so this injury is definitely something to keep an eye on.

A good college friend of mine who works for Toyota called me yesterday and during the course of our conversation she asked me if I’d seen the “swagger wagon” video. I told her I’d heard about it, but hadn’t watched it.

She implored me to watch it, and because she is very persuasive I complied.

Because I ended up finding the video to be pretty damn funny, I’m sharing it with you now:

OchoCinco sent home

Email Post Email Post

Update: Chad Ochocinco was eliminated from competition on ABC's Dancing With the Stars Tuesday night and will now shift his focus to a VH1 reality dating show called The Tournament that he'll star in and that is set to tape in June, according to Pro Football Talk.

Fantasy Impact: OchoCinco continues to stay busy and keep his name in the limelight even in the offseason.  None of this should impact his play on the field.

NBA Playoffs: Forget Lebron James, The Focus Should Be On The Real “Next MJ”

Email Post Email Post

[Editor's note: This is the first article from MSF's newest writer, Chase Yutzy. Chase will be covering the NBA as well as the Browns come NFL season. We're really happy to have him on board and I think you'll enjoy his perspective.]

Someone stop the Lebron James free agency whirlwind.  Right now. Another storyline needs attention, one that may be historic; and the James’ free agency saga is overshadowing it.

The L.A. Lakers are reigning champions of the NBA and are rolling in the Western Conference Finals. In game one of their series with the Suns,  the Lakers dominated.  It looked as though they could not be stopped.

Kobe Bryant poured in 40 points and the Lakers won by 21, 128-107.

It is a scoreline that you’d think would favor the Suns, with both teams in double figures, but the Suns were never really in the game, thanks to Bryant, who is doing what Lebron’s critics want LeBron to do.

Maybe those critics should take some time off from analyzing Lebron and watch Kobe instead.  They may realize that Bryant is narrowing the gap that separates Kobe from the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan.

The young man’s horrified screams after his unfortunate skateboarding accident tell you all you really need to know about this video:

AHHHH! F–k! OWWW!!! I think I hit my balls! I’m f–king bleeding! I’m f–king bleeding! I’m bleeding out my f–king balls dude!

Obviously I can’t say that I feel his (immense) pain…and Halelujah for that…but as guys we can all at least commiserate with this young Tony Hawk wannabe.

Try to watch if you dare (and obviously the language is NSFW):

Phil Dawson absent from OTA’s

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Associated Press is reporting that Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson was absent from the team's first offseason voluntary workout, an indication of a possible contract dispute. Dawson missed OTA's last season and has been asking for a new contract for several years.

Fantasy Impact: Dawson, who has been with the team since 1999, is the team's second all-time leading scorer. He missed five games last year with a calf injury. Since he's a kicker, it's unlikely he'll get a new deal.

Dale Tallon Made Mistakes But You Can’t Deny the Impact He Had on the Hawks

Email Post Email Post

It comes as no surprise seeing former Blackhawk general manager Dale Tallon with another job doing the same thing he did here in Chicago.

This time it’s with the Florida Panthers.

I am happy for Tallon. He didn’t get enough credit for the team he helped build in Chicago, a team that he put together that now has a great chance at winning a Stanley Cup.

Sure, criticize him for paying Cristobal Huet and Brian Campbell too much money, but the positive impact Tallon made to the Hawks, no doubt, outweighs any negatives.

Yesterday I had the good fortune of getting to spend about 45 minutes on the phone with a true sports blogging pioneer: Will Leitch, the founding editor of Deadspin, author, and currently a contributing editor for New York Magazine.

Will has a new book that recently was published called Are We Winning, which chronicles a Cubs-Cardinals game that he and his father went to. Will uses the game as a vehicle to touch on many bigger issues of baseball, life, and relationships, especially those between fathers and sons.

You can buy the book via Amazon here: Are We Winning [affiliate]

I think you’ll really enjoy our conversation, which is wide ranging on a number of topics related to baseball.
