Garcia an option for Eagles

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Philadelphia Daily News suggests that the Eagles eventually end up trading quarterback Michael Vick, former Eagle Jeff Garcia could be brought in to serve as Kevin Kolb’s veteran back-up.

Fantasy Impact: Garcia was a fan favorite in Philly, and was able to produce.  His time with Oakland was a disaster, but this could be a good situation for him should it actually happen.

Holmes to be suspended by NFL

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to a Pro Football Talk report, Pittsburgh Steelers wide out Santonio Holmes will be suspended for the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.  The report is unclear as to whether Holmes tested positive for a prohibited substance or committed some other violation of the policy, such as missing a required test.

Fantasy Impact: This is a blow to Holmes’ fantasy status as he will now have four less games of production for fantasy owners.

Browns may take Bryant

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Canton Repository is reporting that the Cleveland Browns may select wide receiver Dez Bryant with their seventh overall pick the draft.  This would seem to contradict reports that the Browns had safety Eric Berry on their radar.

Fantasy Impact:  Berry is most likely the Browns No. 1 choice, and these reports may just be the Browns trying to downplay their interest in Berry hoping he is still there when they pick.

Spiller tabbed as best RB in draft

Email Post Email Post

Update: Former Clemson star C.J. Spiller has been anointed the best running back in this year's draft, according to the Chicago Tribune.  The Tribune states his home run speed is comparable to the league's best running back, Tennessee's Chris Johnson.

Fantasy Impact:  The draft is not loaded with solid running backs, so Spiller might be the first one off the board, but comparing him to Chris Johnson is a bit aggressive.

Eagles may still deal Vick

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles still hope to trade backup quarterback Michael Vick.  Many believed that once Donovan McNabb was shipped to the Redskins that Vick would be staying put.  Apparently the Eagles are not hell bent on keeping him as their backup.

Fantasy Impact:  If the Eagles find a suitor for Vick, it might make sense to move him and bring in a veteran guy to mentor Kolb.  Vick still poses a threat to Kolb if he is on the roster because Vick was once a superstar in the league, and has made it known he wants to start.

Site Recommendation for Music Lovers: IndieChristmas.com

Email Post Email Post

You may noticed a little bit less activity around these parts the last 36 hours. There are a few reasons for that.

First, I think we all needed to catch our breath a bit after one of the most exciting (and content intensive) NCAA Tournaments I can remember.

Second, and the real reason I was MIA yesterday, is that I had a Eureka! moment a few nights ago and decided to launch a brand new site.

After the positive response I got for my 17 Essential Songs for Spring post, and after realizing how much fun I had writing it, I thought it might be fun to launch a music site on the side. So I did.

Check it out: IndieChristmas.com

Wells, Colvin Shine in Cubs’ First Win

Email Post Email Post

Cubs fans, you can now exhale.

The Cubs have finally won their first game, avoiding the series sweep by Atlanta. The performance of starting pitcher Randy Wells, and outfielder prospect Tyler Colvin, is great news for the Cubs.

Randy Wells, in my opinion the Cubs’ best pitcher, pitched a phenomenal, scoreless six innings. Wells walked two and only struck out one, but only gave up a modest six hits. Wells’ performance is a breath of fresh air after two tough losses, one being a season opener to forget.

Taylor visits Jets

Email Post Email Post

UPDATE: According to ESPN.com, Jason Taylor visits the New York Jets.

FANTASY IMPACT: The Jets look to strengthen their already stymie defense. Bringing in Jason Taylor seems to reiterate the Jets emphasis on defense. Taylor is the NFL’s active leader in sacks with 127.5, and brings with him several years of consistent dominant play at his position regardless of lost speed and increased age.  It will take quite a bit to snag him from the Dolphins, who he has played 11 seasons with, but would he stay if offered the right price?

Eason staying in Pittsburgh

Email Post Email Post

Update: Defensive end Nicholas Eason has agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Fantasy Impact: Eason returns to the Steelers after having seen some significant time last year as a starter due to the Aaron Smith injury.  Eason will most likely fall back into a backup role this season.

Browns ink Center

Update: Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting on his Twitter page, that center Eric Ghiaciuc has signed with the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Impact: Alex Mack is the team’s starting center, so this is nothing more then a move to acquire some depth at the position.

Redskins might owe Eagles third-round pick

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Washington Post, The Philadelphia Eagles receive a second-round pick this year and a fourth-rounder in the 2011 draft after trading QB Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, but that fourth-round pick could turn into a third-rounder, though, based on McNabb’s performance. The pick becomes a third-rounder if McNabb reaches either the Pro Bowl or plays in 70 percent of the Redskins’ plays and the team wins at least nine games.
