Breaking: Miami Dolphins Trade for WR Brandon Marshall

Well this is going to shift the balance of power a bit in the AFC East.

Adam Schefter is reporting this morning that the Miami Dolphins have agreed to ship a couple of draft picks – reported to be 2nd rounders this year and next – to the Denver Broncos in exchange for WR Brandon Marshall.

The Dolphins have had a tremendous void at the WR position for years now. Assuming this trade goes through – Marshall still needs to pass a physical – and Marshall doesn’t get entangled too much in the South Beach night life, the ‘Phins will have upgraded their WR corps from liability to strength.

Rasheed Wallace Lives Every Baller’s Worst Nightmare (Derrick Rose Keeps Living the Dream)

It has not been a good year for Rasheed Wallace in Boston, and the not-so-goodness has reached a crescendo over the past week or so.

First, there was this scathing article by The Sports Guy – so aptly named “Smoke and Mirrors” – about how much of an overpaid disaster the former Piston Wallace has been in Boston.

And then there was what you see below, tonight, from the Celtics game against the Bulls. Yes, this actually happened. The look on Rasheed’s face is all you need to see.

NFL Draft: Potential vs. Production

Email Post Email Post
wes-welker-fantasy-football-week-8-player-rankings

Everyone who is not a general manager of a professional team wishes they were a GM, regardless of the sport. This is probably the most agreed upon thing in sports. That is why fantasy sports are (basically) the most popular thing in the world.

I know for sure that I have thought and will continue to think that I can assemble a team better than some GMs out there.

My favorite time to pretend I am a GM is when the NFL Draft rolls around. Most people who have a favorite team, in my case the Minnesota Vikings (sad, yes I know), have an opinion for what area said team needs to improve whether it is for talent or personal reasons.

Today’s topic, however, has nothing to do with who the Vikings should draft. As long as it is a quality pick and they don’t reach for a project pick who is then rushed along without proper development (See: Jackson, Tarvaris), I don’t mind who they pick.

Rather, let us take a look at something more general, and one the biggest yearly debates and uncertainties of the NFL Draft: the debate of production vs. potential.

Don’t Believe Wikipedia: Hawk Harrelson Does NOT Love Licking Sack

Email Post Email Post

Saw a tweet from Ben Garmoe earlier today that highlighted some shenanigans on Hawk Harrelson’s Wikipedia page.

Because these things can be altered quickly, I got a screenshot of said shenanigans so you can all see what I’m talking about.

Apparently the editors of Hawk’s Wikipedia page don’t like my favorite baseball announcer very much because they fabricated quite a catch phrase for the voice of the White Sox:

Ladies, this handome devil would like a word with you…alone…in the restroom

ben-roethlisberger-douche

I think all the women out there would agree that Ben Roethlisberger – who looks more and more like his last name sounds with each passing year – is a svelte, chiseled, Adonis of a studmuffin.

Why else would impressionable young women continue joining him in public restrooms for X-rated games of Straddle the Porcelain? (What, you thought the Georgia case was the only one?)

Seriously, what burgeoning young coed could possibly resist this face.

Williams inks two-year deal

Email Post Email Post

Update: Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that Bengals guard Bobbie Williams signed a two-year contract Monday. Williams and the Bengals had reached a deal over the weekend, but Williams was out of town.

Fantasy Impact: This is good news for both the Cincinnati run and pass game. The 11 year veteran has started 95 of his 98 games with the Bengals. Cincinnati will return its top nine offensive linemen from last year.

Opening Day 2010 at Wrigley Field

Email Post Email Post

A kind MSF reader, Susan York, passed along a tip to her blog where she posted pictures from her visit to Wrigley Field on the Cubs’ home Opening Day yesterday.

After a rough 2-4 start in six road games to open the season, the Cubs beat the Brewers 9-5 yesterday.

Susan did some nice camera work, so I thought I’d post the pictures here for your enjoyment.

See, Now This Bothers Me…

bud-selig

Why is the sports media obsessed with demonizing baseball while the other two major sports, especially football, often get a free pass?

If they’re not criticizing America’s pastime for steroids, competitive balance, and the paucity of black players, it’s something like yesterday in Minnesota:

Sorry Tiger, Coffee’s For Closers & MJ Only Hangs With Winners

Ever since Tiger Woods’ personal life was turned inside-out and upside-down, his friendship with Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley has been criticized/celebrated (depending on your gender, marital status, and/or morals) for its purportedly wheels off salaciousness.

So if you’re a Phil Mickelson fan because of his clean cut image and publicly displayed family values, or if you’re his wife Amy, this picture can’t make you feel really comfortable:

Clausen could go 9th

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Buffalo News is reporting that the Bills could be in the mix for former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen with their ninth pick in this month’s draft.  Clausen had a workout last week, and looked very good in front of NFL scouts.

Fantasy Impact: This makes a ton of sense for the Bills who are in dire need of a young quarterback who can become the face of the organization.  Clearly Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick are not the answer.

Vikings workout Tebow

Email Post Email Post

Update: Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings held a private workout for former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow on Saturday. Reports are that head coach Brad Childress and vice president of personnel Rick Spielman attended the workout.

Fantasy Impact: Tebow will be on the board when Minnesota picks at 30th, but it is a real stretch to believe that they would select him that high.

The Single Most Amazing Moment From Masters Weekend 2010

Email Post Email Post
mickelson-seed-putt-video

Seeing Tiger Woods take his first tee shot since all the craziness went down was pretty interesting.

Seeing Phil Mickelson run and hide on the back 9 Sunday was a little disappointing from a drama standpoint, but pretty special and fitting considering what his family has been going through.

Overall, this weekend brought us some great shots, a major statement by a future star (Anthony Kim’s 65 on Sunday), and some appreciation for under appreciated pros like Lee Westwood and K.J. Choi.

But nothing all weekend topped the surreal 10 seconds in the video below.

Email Post Email Post

We’ve all seen him play ball with the Suns. We’ve seen him play against MJ in the Finals. We’ve never seen him win an NBA ring, but we’ve seen him get into it with Shaq.

We have also seen him host TNT’s Overtime, and we’ve seen him with D-Wade and Dwight on T-Mobile commercials. We’ve seen him race at an NBA-All Star game, and lose to a senior citizen.

Yes, we’ve seen Charles Barkley all over the place. So what’s not to love about Sir Cumference?

Here are 10 reasons, why we should all appreciate NBA great Charles Barkley:

Bring on the Predators; Blackhawks Playoff Run Starts Friday

Email Post Email Post

It’s not the most ideal match up for the Hawks, but it sure is better than the facing the Red Wings.

After losing a heartbreaker to Detroit in the regular season finale, the Hawks just fell one point short of winning the Western Conference title and cementing home ice advantage for the playoffs.

Instead, San Jose won the conference, and with that the Hawks are the second seed and will play the seventh seeded Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2010 playoffs.

Bucs to keep Leftwich

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Pro Football Talk, the Tampa Bay Bucs are no longer expected to release veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich. “(Byron) did nothing but help Josh Freeman learn how to work. He did nothing but help Josh Freeman grow along the way,” head coach Raheem Morris told the Tribune. “There would be no shock in my mind to see Byron Leftwich on our team. I don’t have any qualms with him.”

Fantasy Impact: Leftwich might want to do more than “help” younger quarterbacks take the playing time he is hoping to have.  Don’t think this is the last on this situation as there are a number of teams in the mix for a veteran backup, and Byron might be find a new home after the draft.
