Bears interested in Will James

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Bears were reportedly close to signing free agent cornerback Will James over the weekend. It’s unclear if the team’s selection of rookie CB Joshua Moore will impact the possible move.

Fantasy Impact: James was exposed last year in the Lions defense, and it is surprising that the Bears are interested in him.  He should find other work.

Beck & Smith to compete for backup job

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Baltimore Sun is reporting that quarterbacks John Beck and Troy Smith are expected to compete for the backup job. Beck was inactive for most of the year, and Smith is looking to get himself out of town.

Fantasy Impact: Beck isn’t going to beat out Smith for the job, so he should be hoping that Smith gets his wish and is dealt.

RB Jones on the trading block

Email Post Email Post

Update: The National Football Post is reporting that Seahawks running back Julius Jones is reportedly on the trade block during the draft. It’s believed he’s still available.  With the new additions of LenDale White and Leon Washington there is minimal room for Jones.

Fantasy Impact: LenDale white should get a bulk of the carries, but Justin Forsett and Washington should also share the duties.

Jags to release John Henderson

Update: Defensive tackle John Henderson will be released by Jacksonville today, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This was no surprise given the Jags used their first two picks in the NFL Draft to take defensive tackles.

Fantasy Impact: Henderson is a nice addition for another team, and will find work shortly with another team.

Email Post Email Post
matt-millen-apology

In case you missed it this weekend, Matt Millen used the NFL Draft to remind everyone why 99.9% of the NFL fan population thinks he is an idiot.

For background on Millen’s joke and subsequent apology, the guys at Detroit 4 Lyfe have the details.

To see Millen’s apology, which has to be one of the least sincere, my-employer-is-making-me-do-this, non-apology-apologies that I’ve ever seen, just click play and try not to snicker:

WWSC: Giving Thanks to Dick-Rod

Email Post Email Post

[Editor's Note: Throughout the day I participate in email conversations with friends about hot sports topics. One of my friends in particular is very active in these conversations. This is that friend.]

Wendell just wanted to share what he is thankful for on his weekly day of repent.

Wendell is thankful for Rich Rodriguez (aka Dick-Rod).

Specifically, Wendell appreciates Dick-Rod replacing an NFL pipeline with ambiguous position players, such those with the dubious label “athlete”, equating to non-NFL caliber talent, but talent capable of winning the insignificant-East.

Confident About the Bullpen Now, Lou?

Email Post Email Post

Before the beginning of the season, Cubs manager Lou Pinella was quoted saying that he was confident in his young bullpen.

Well, we’re 17 games in and the Cubs’ bullpen has a dismal 2-8 and a combined 7.51 ERA, if you include Carlos Zambrano.

How much confidence does Lou have now? I wouldn’t say he has much.

Email Post Email Post
colt-mccoy-browns-draft-pick-3rd-round-85th-selection

When we all woke up today, a lot of people thought that the Cleveland Browns would trade up to the first pick of the 2nd round and select Texas QB Colt McCoy.

As it happened, the St. Louis Rams kept the 33rd overall pick and selected Roger Saffold out of Indiana to shore up its offensive line and protect its investment in #1 pick Sam Bradford.

Then the Browns took a safety…and then they took a running back…and finally, with the 85th pick in the draft – some 50 picks after many people thought he’d be selected – Colt McCoy was the choice of the Cleveland Browns.

And it was the best pick in terms of value in the first three rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft.

What’s that? You want some reasons? Fine, here we go:

Rams fielding call for 33rd pick

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns have contacted the Rams about the No. 33 overall pick. “Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy in play,” Schefter adds.

Fantasy Impact: The Bills and Browns both are looking for quarterbacks, and both teams must be shocked that both Clausen and McCoy are still on the board.  The question is will a deal get done and would a team settle for one quarterback over the other as it is believed that the Chiefs are high on Jimmy Clausen and they pick at No. 36 ahead of both teams.

Rams put future in Bradford

Email Post Email Post

Update: Sam Bradford going to the St. Louis Rams, the first NFL draft in prime time was a showcase for the Big 12. The Oklahoma junior became the eighth quarterback since 2001 taken atop the draft. “You have no idea how excited I am just to have the opportunity to come to St. Louis and play my NFL career there,” Bradford said in a conference call with ESPN. “It’s just a blessing and I can’t wait to get there and get to work.”

Fantasy Impact: The question now becomes what week will we see Bradford take the helm for the Rams?  Some say throw him out there in Week 1 and let him learn on the job, while others say using AJ Feeley is the right thing to do.
