Schefter says Haynesworth’s staying put

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that despite recent reports that the Redskins are trying to deal Albert Haynesworth, the team has not had trade discussions regarding their highly paid defensive end.

Fantasy Impact: It is not secret that Haynesworth did not live up to the hype last year for the Skins, and that he had conflicts with the coaching staff.  Hopefully with Mike Shanahan taking over the reins, he can get Haynesworth to be the player he once was.

Jets after Jason Taylor

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Miami Herald is reporting that the New York Jets have started a heavy pursuit of free agent lineback Jason Taylor.  While the Jets and Patriots have been linked to Taylor, this is nothing but speculation at this point.

Fantasy Impact: Taylor might end up returning to Miami, although heading to New England or New York would give the aging veteran a shot at a Super Bowl.

Bengals re-sign Cook

Jets hosting Brunell

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the New York Daily News’ Rich Cimini, the New York Jets are hosting free agent quarterback Mark Brunell for a visit today.

Fantasy Impact: The Jets are most likely looking to bring in a guy that can help continue to develop youngster Mark Sanchez.  If anything ever happened to Sanchez, it would be an issue as Brunell is not capable of being an every day quarterback at his age.

Tiki Barber Further Confirms What We’ve Always Known: He’s a Douche

Email Post Email Post
tiki-barber-douche

I just read a tweet by MSF’s friend Robert Littal of Black Sports Online that perfectly sums up how I have always felt about Tiki Barber:

I never liked Tiki..I can spot a fake dude 1000 miles away..he was always a poser thinking he was smarter than everyone else

The impetus for this tweet was, of course, the story that broke today about Tiki leaving his wife for an NBC intern. His wife is eight months pregnant. And as Dash over at Deadspin pointed out earlier today, this seems especially ironic considering past quotes from Tiki about wanting to be an “honorable man” and so forth.

Well, I am not here to pass judgment on Tiki’s honorableness as a man. That’s between he, his wife, and his kids. What I am here to pass judgment on is Tiki’s massive douche factor, which gets another bump by this unfortunate story.

And, as usual, Flash Sports Tonight predicted it all a few years ago.

Masters Odds and Pick: Tiger, Phil, Ernie, or…Retief?

Email Post Email Post
masters-odds-pick-tiger-phil-ernie-els-retief-goosen

Anyone checking out The Masters odds for this week would have to be living under a rock….a very, very big rock….to not realize what the major storyline coming into this tournament would be.

The Masters is a big enough deal as is, but when the world’s No.1 player returns after a five-month scandal, you can bet that The Masters will be the most-watched tournament in recent memory, if not, in history.

‘Bootstraps the Bussie’ thinks Jeff Samardzija is NOT a Role Model

Email Post Email Post
jeff-samardzija-baseball-reference

Jeff Samardzija was a two sport star at Notre Dame whose baseball talents earned him a spot in the Cubs organization and whose acrobatic catches helped Brady Quinn fool the Browns into drafting him in the first round.

Frustrated, arrogant, and entitled Notre Dame fans across the country grew to love the gangly white boy with the hard-to-spell last name and the hair that could make Scott Stapp envious.

But things haven’t gone so well for Samardzija since he left Notre Dame and chose baseball over becoming the next Ed McCaffery. And if Samardzija’s page on Baseball-Reference.com is to be believed (and why not?), the Fighting Irish alum has a long way to go if he wants to set a proper example for the youngsters.

Hawks Set Team Record with 50th Win of the Season

Email Post Email Post

The Blackhawks continue their winning streak, beating the Dallas Stars 5-2 Tuesday night.

The win was more than just a win because now, with 50 wins on the season, the Hawks have set a franchise record. To break the record this year is no surprise, as this is the best Hawks team in almost 20 years.

The current winning streak couldn’t have come at a better time. Just a few weeks ago many people were doubting the legitimacy of the Hawks after a three game losing streak in which the Hawks lost miserably.

Rogers must repay Lions

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Detroit Free Press, a judge ruled Monday that former No. 2 overall pick Charles Rogers must repay the Lions $6.1 million of his $9.1 million signing bonus. The Lions took Rogers to court after he ignored a 2008 arbitrator’s ruling that he had to repay the money. Rogers was released in 2006, one year after being suspended for testing positive three times for substance abuse.

Fantasy Impact: Rogers has been a nightmare since being drafted into the NFL.  He has been in and out of both rehab and prison, and this is just another setback in his horrific career.

Campbell to stay away from Skins

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell will opt to stay away from the team’s practice facility for the foreseeable future. Campbell had a sit down with head coach Mike Shanahan on Monday, and the sides decided that Campbell training elsewhere is good for both parties.

Fantasy Impact: Campbell was told that he is able to seek a trade to another team.  He clearly won’t want to spend his days in Washington with Donovan McNabb now the starter.

Fantasy Baseball: Observations from Opening Day

Email Post Email Post

The baseball gods must have been looking down on me yesterday because around 930 am I started to get dizzy, then I had a headache and was vomiting.  Around 11 30 am I decided to go home from work, and was violently ill.

Around 1 pm though, I was back to my old self in front of the TV flipping around 6 baseball games.

Here are some of the observations I saw from my opening day…..

Sproles Signs Tender With Chargers

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com reports that RB Darren Sproles has signed his tender with the San Diego Chargers worth $7.283 million. Sproles was offered a first and third round tender from the Chargers about a month ago but was reluctant to sign it hoping to work out a long term deal.

Fantasy Impact: Sproles will likely be the teams #1 RB option this coming season, with the only other RB on the team with NFL experience being Marcus Mason, formerly of the Washington Redskins. It is also possible the Chargers will try to pick a RB early on in the 2010 draft.
