Porter Suspected of Drunken Driving

Email Post Email Post

UPDATE: According to ESPN.com Arizona Cardinals linebacker Joey Porter is suspected of drunk driving and accused of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest.

FANTASY IMPACT: Arizona fans were already skeptical of this pickup for the Cards, and now have good reason to be.  This is not a good way to start out with an organization, and Porter will now be struggling to make this roster due to his actions.  He was brought in to be a locker room motivator, but that may have gone down the toilet.

Video: Minor League Hockey Coach Goes Nucking Futs

video: minor-league-hockey-coach-jim-playfair-goes-nuts

All that minor league hockey coach Jim Playfair asks for is that the officials ensure that his last name is the rule of law on the ice.

I just wish you guys would make sure that all the players play fair, is I’m sure what was going through his mind starting at about the 3:42 mark in the video below.

Well, that and $&#^@! *@&#^! $%@$…$$&@%$!!! Or something like that.

Just watch the video. The anchors on SportsCenter were having a lot of fun with it this morning. The coach goes nucking futs and it’s hilarious.

Chicago Cubs Still Have Big Pitching Questions to Answer

Email Post Email Post
jeff-samardzija-cubs-bullpen-pitching-rotation

It’s getting closer and closer to opening day for the Chicago Cubs, and there are still some big looming questions that are yet to be answered.

The Cubs filled out their pitching rotation this Friday, setting Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny into the 4th and 5th starting positions. The move means Jeff Samardzija and Sean Marshall will join a bullpen that has three rookies.

Including Carlos Marmol, six out of the Cubs’ seven relievers are under the age of 27, and Jim Hendry said he was content with that fact.

One question that bothers me: What do the Cubs want to do with Samardzija?

Butler Back Home Again…in…The Final Four!

butler-final-4-tickets-four

Today, Butler completed one of the most unexpected runs to the Final Four in the history of the NCAA Tournament.

Sure, many of us Midwesterners knew how solid a program had been built at Butler, but not many actually thought the Bulldogs could navigate through the West region to play in college basketball’s famous final weekend.

With a win over #2 seed Kansas State, the 5th seeded Butler Bulldogs earned the right to do just that, and they will play in their first ever Final Four.

Fittingly, they will do it in their own backyard, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Kolb not told he’s the starter

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Eagles have not informed Kevin Kolb that he will be the team’s starting quarterback in 2010.

Fantasy Impact: The Eagles aren’t going to announce Kolb is the starter with Donovan McNabb still in town.

No Truth to McNabb rumors

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Contra Costa Times believes there is no truth to the Donovan McNabb to Oakland Raiders rumors.  There had been reports that the Raiders were willing to move star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha as part of a potential deal with the Eagles for McNabb.

Fantasy Impact: Asomugha is due some big money, and that might the reason his name has been mentioned as a possibility in a deal with the Eagles.  McNabb would most likely not want to sign an extension to play with Oakland beyond one year, so there is little reason to believe Oakland would want to deal for a quarterback for just one season.

Blackhawks Clinched the Playoffs But It Wasn’t Pretty

Email Post Email Post

Thursday night was a mixed-emotions day for both the Blackhawks and their fans. After being blown out 8-3 by the Columbus Jackets, possibly their worst played  game of the season, the Blackhawks found out they had clinched the playoffs for the second straight year after a Calgary loss.

In the loss, Cristobal Huet made coach Joel Quennville’s choice for starting goaltender even easier. Quennville gave Huet the green light on Thursday even after Niemi’s sixth shutout of the season, hoping Huet would make his case for starting goaltender in the playoffs.

It backfired.

It’s time to give the Volunteers their due.

Despite being one of two teams to hand the mighty Kentucky Wildcats a loss this season, many people underestimated Bruce Pearl’s club headed into the tournament. I had them getting to the Sweet 16 and losing to Ohio State; Wayne Chism, J.P. Prince and Co. had other ideas and decided to send Evan Turner home early.

In the second Sweet 16 game in the Midwest, Michigan State came out on top after an entertaining, physical battle, setting up  a very interesting Elite 8 matchup.

Let’s take a look at this year’s Midwest Regional Final.

Gregg Doyel: Butler is NOT Hickory

Email Post Email Post

Great article by Gregg Doyel of CBS Sports that discusses the many reasons why the program that Barry Collier, Thad Matta, Todd Lickliter, and Brad Stevens has built is not as analogous with Hickory High – the ultimate underdog in the movie Hoosiers – as many would have you think.

I agree. And for all of the reasons Doyel cites.

Read the excerpt, then read the article.

Elite 8: Kentucky-West Virginia Preview and Prediction for East Regional Final

kentucky-west-virginia-tickets-preview-elite-8-prediction-spread-tv-tip-time-announcers-date

Last night, Kentucky disappointed everyone in America who is not a part of Big Blue Nation by knocking off 12th seeded Cornell in rather efficient, easy fashion. The Big Red played hard, but ultimately didn’t have the horses to run with John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Co.

Kentucky’s victory, along with West Virginia’s second half dominance over Washington, sets up Saturday night’s marquee primetime Elite 8 matchup that will determine the East Regional representative in the Final Four.

As we know, every Kentucky victory is just one more that will ultimately have to be wiped from the books once John Calipari’s diabolical team-building methods are uncovered.  Will Big Blue Nation at least get enjoy their basketball house of cards for one more weekend? Or will the Huggy Bear and his Mountaineers travel west to Indianapolis for the Final Four?

Mid-Majors, Pac-10 Expose Big East Myth

Email Post Email Post
jim-calhoun

Perhaps the most embarrassing example of the Big East’s 2010 NCAA tournament debacle is that every team one of the seven goners lost to was a so-called ‘mid major’ or Pac 10 (worst major conference this season) team:

Old Dominion (ND)
Ohio (Gtown)
Washington (Marquette)
Butler (Syracuse)
Xavier (Pitt)
St Marys (Nova)
Cal (L’ville)

I wonder if the Committee will ever learn.
