Vikings interested in Tomlinson

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, free agent RB LaDainian Tomlinson is talking with the Minnesota Vikings, and other teams that aren’t known, but no deals are imminent. Tomlinson was recently released by the San Diego Chargers earlier this off-season.

Fantasy Impact: I can’t see the Vikings picking up Tomlinson after not spending money to re-sign RB Chester Taylor. Tomlinson would be a great duo with Adrian Peterson, but I think Tomlinson is looking for more of a starting role, and more money, both which he could find in other places compared to Minnesota.

ESPN Screws Central Indiana

There are two division one hoops teams in the city of Indianapolis: IUPUI & Butler. Both are atop their conferences year in and out.

Usually, IUPUI will play their Summit League final at 7pm Tuesday of conference week, with Butler’s Horizon league final at 9pm, thereby setting up a nice, local twinbill.

But not tonight.

Rams May Draft Quarterback

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the combination of the St. Louis Rams signing DL Fred Robbins as well as a veteran quarterback in QB A.J. Feeley seems to indicate the team is leaning toward selecting a quarterback over a defensive tackle with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact: Fred Robbins is an extremely talented force on the defensive end, so it certainly seems the Rams will have the opportunity to draft the top QB prospect.

Video: The Bruce Weber-Demetri McCamey Love Affair Continues

Email Post Email Post

Saw this over the weekend but hadn’t found the video to post.

During Illinois’ rather underwhelming performance at home against Wisconsin — while sitting squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble — coach Bruce Weber got a little, shall we say, peeved with the decision-making and attitude of his best player, Demetri McCamey.

The result was a brief, heated, one-sided exchange between coach and player that featured Weber’s amusingly intense facial expressions, which Big Ten basketball fans everywhere have come to know and love.

An Argument Against Duke Being a #1 Seed

Email Post Email Post

Total road wins for some top teams: Cornell 15, Butler 13, Nova 9, Syracuse 8, Purdue 8, West Virginia 8, K-State 8, Ohio State 7, UK 7, Duke 5.

Every analyst talks ad nauseum about how “good teams win on the road” and “teams that win on the road win in the tourney.” They are, of course, correct.

So how has Duke (or Kentucky for that matter) done in the tourney the past few years? Not well at all.

There’s a reason a 3rd seeded Villanova team dismantled a second seeded Duke team last year and few were surprised.

Blackhawks’ Need More Consistent Goaltending to Stay on Road to Stanley Cup

Email Post Email Post

The Chicago Blackhawks have the speed, talent, depth, and motivation to become the team at the end of the year to take the Stanley Cup home to Chicago for the first time since 1961.

But one thing is coming in between them and that goal: inconsistent goaltending.

It’s nothing new for the Hawks, but it’s definitely something that needs to be talked about. Everybody was expecting the Hawks to make a goaltender trade before the trade deadline last week, but it never came.

Lebron Sits Out, Cavs Still Beat Spurs 97-95

No Lebron, No Shaq, No Problem!

Despite Lebron James sitting on the bench for his second straight game (due to a sprained left ankle) and Shaquille O’Neal recovering from surgery on his right thumb, the Cleveland Cavaliers still found a way to beat the Spurs 97-95, in a Quicken Loans Arena nail bitter.

The Cavs took on their former 2007 nemesis (who swept them in the Franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance), and fought hard for the victory without the help of two of their starters.

Kevin Walter Stays with Texans

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN reports that the Texans have resigned WR Kevin Walter Monday. Terms are not currently known.

Fantasy Impact: Walter was pretty disappointing this year in fantasy, but a bounce back is possible. Expect him to go much later in drafts, though.

College Basketball Fans: Do You Know How Safe Your Team’s Lead Is?

Email Post Email Post

Now you do.

I just received an email from Toby Muresianu with a tip about a pretty nifty new iPhone app that uses Bill James’ algorithm to calculate how safe a lead is based on a few variables: margin of lead; time left on the clock; who has the ball.

I downloaded the app, tried it out, and does it exactly what it says it will do. (It’s always nice when technology does that, isn’t it?)

Osgood to Jacksonville

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN reports that the Jaguars have signed WR Kassim Osgood to a 3 year contract. The other terms of the deal are not known.

Fantasy Impact: This could surprisingly have fantasy implications, as Osgood has said previously that he wanted to go somewhere that would let him play more wide receiver and be a bigger part of an offense. The Jaguars have little talent beyond Mike Sims-Walker at WR and Osgood could have value this year.

Kerry Rhodes Going to the Desert

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN reports that the Arizona Cardinals have acquired S Kerry Rhodes from the Jets for a fourth round pick next year and a seventh round pick in 2011.

Fantasy Impact: This doesn’t have many fantasy implications, but it does help fill one of the many holes the Cardinals have suddenly developed this off-season.
