Welker battling injuries

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Boston Herald is reporting, that Patriots wide receiver, Wes Welker is rehabbing a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder in addition to his torn ACL and MCL. No timetable for his return have been given, but do not expect to see Welker for Week 1.

Fantasy Impact: Welker’s shoulder won’t require major surgery, but it is just another injury he must endure.  Fantasy owners should not rely on Welker to be back anytime soon, and he could miss the first 6 weeks of the regular season at a minimum.

Jets nearing deal with LT

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Newark Star-Ledger, free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson stayed overnight in the New York City area on Friday night, fueling speculation that he may soon be signing with the Jets.  Tomlinson had visited with the Vikings, but has apparently not received a contract offer from the team.

Fantasy Impact: Tomlinson may be leaning to New York because he knows his role would be much greater then it would be should he end up as Adrian Peterson’s backup in Minny.

Update: According to Pro Football Talk, free agent running back Justin Fargas is struggling to find a team for the 2010 season.  Fargas has visited with a number of teams, but has left each visit without a deal.

Fantasy Impact: Fargas had been linked to the Eagles, Browns and Chiefs, but none of the teams have given any indication that they are willing to sign Fargas to a deal.  The Eagles are the most recent team who had him in for a visit and declined to make him an offer.

Baker signs with Seattle

Email Post Email Post

Update: Free agent tight end Chris Baker has signed a two-year, $4.75 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN’s Twitter page.

Fantasy Impact: Baker has not had a major impact in the passing game as he is a more of a blocking tight end.  He will help a Seattle offense which is clearly trying to re-establish its identity.

You have surely seen it by now.

The shot heard ’round the Midwest.

The shot that proved, once more, why Evan Turner is best player in America.

But what exactly was going on right after the shot? Thad Matta clearly goes insane and is yelling at someone, ultimately having to be restrained. Watch it again, and we’ll quickly discuss the two hypotheses being bandied about for Matta’s explosion.

Everyone stop what you are doing and listen very carefully. Hear that sound? That is the entire Minnesota Vikings front office collectively slamming their palms to their foreheads and Leslie Frazier throwing his phone against the wall.

Whoops!

Amid all of the speculation of how the Vikings are going to replace Chester Taylor, whether it be LT, Brian Westbrook or even Justin Fargas, comes a new and much more interesting dilemma.

What is going to happen with Ray Edwards?

Tomlinson close to signing

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, LaDainian Tomlinson met with Minnesota Vikings officials last night for dinner and will visit more with the Vikings today. However, if he does leave Minnesota without a contract, Tomlinson will meet with the New York Jets on Friday. Yet, Tomlinson is enjoying his visit with the Vikings and told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that he could ‘possibly’ sign with Vikings on Thursday. He said he has “heard what I like to hear” and that one of his agents made the trip with him.

Fantasy Impact: Tomlinson has a strong chance of signing with the Vikings, as he wants to win a championship, and is willing to accept a backup role to Adrian Peterson. Tomlinson wouldn’t have the fantasy value that he has had before if he is turned into a backup in Minnesota, but if he signs with the Jets and can hold a starting role, he would be a solid number two or three running back.

Derrick Mason returning

Email Post Email Post

Update: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Baltimore Ravens WR Derrick Mason has been re-signed to a two-year, $8 million deal that includes $3.5 million in the first year. Mason briefly retired before the 2009-10 season, and hinted after the season that he might retire but has decided to come back to play for two more years. “This is outstanding, just great news for the Ravens. Our coaches are happy. Derrick’s teammates are happy and you know Joe [Flacco] is smiling,” said head coach John Harbaugh.

Fantasy Impact: Mason is one of the most reliable WR’s in the league as he had 73 receptions last year for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. Mason is a good low-end number two WR option or high-end number three. His re-signing will cut a little bit into Ravens WR Anquan Boldin and WR Donte Stallworth’s productivity and fantasy value, but this makes QB Joe Flacco look that much better.

March MADness: 22 Pictures of the Angriest College Basketball Coaches in America

Email Post Email Post
jim-calhoun

March Madness is upon us, so as part of our continuing coverage here at MSF I thought it might be fun to do something a little different.

Lacking any motivation to do serious bubble or conference tournament analysis, I decided to spend a half hour with Google Images and find some of the funniest pictures of college basketball coaches that were available.

The result is what follows, a pictorial celebration of the MAD in March Madness, featuring the coaches of the current top 16 teams in America, as well as five others thrown in for good (see: hilarious) measure.
