Update 3/13/10: This post was originally published on February 28th, 2010. Congratulations to Kansas who defeated Kansas State to win the 2010 Big 12 Tournament.
Surprise, surprise, guess who the favorite is to win the Big 12 Mens Basketball Tournament?
If you said Kansas, you’d be correct.
The Jayhawks had won three straight Big 12 Tournaments before getting upended by Baylor last year, which led to Missouri winning their first ever Big 12 Tournament on their way to a stellar showing in the NCAA Tournament.
This year, Kansas has once again been a wire-to-wire leader in the regular season rankings and will enter next week’s Big 12 tourney as the prohibitive favorite, with Kansas State a clear cut #2, and then a logjam of teams below them.

Click here so you never waste a weekend re-painting your house, when you could have done it right the first time, for a lifetime!
With each passing season, Kansas coach Bill Self continues to climb his way up the college coaching totem pole. He has definitely hit his stride in Lawrence and has picked up right where Roy Williams left off in having Kansas competitive on a national level on a year-in, year-out basis.
Kansas State, led by the up-and-coming Frank Martin, has had an outstanding regular season, losing only three games so far during conference play and only four overall. Not only with the Wildcats be a tough out in the Big 12 Tournament, but no one is going to want to draw them once it comes time for the Big Dance.
The Texas Longhorns are perhaps one of the biggest enigmas in college basketball. They obviously have talent, but have been in nose-dive mode ever since reaching the #1 ranking in the country. Baylor, Texas A&M, and Missouri have all now surpassed Rick Barnes’ club in the Big 12 standings.
So will (rock) chalk win out in Kansas City next week, or can Frank Martin’s crew capture the school’s first Big 12 Tournament title? Or will a lower-seeded upstart with experience like Baylor crash the Jayhawks’ pre-Big Dance party? We’ll find out.
Below is the path the champion will follow and then the list they’ll get to add their name to once the title has been decided.
