Charges Dropped on Holmes

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Pittsburgh Steelers’ WR Santonio Holmes will not be charged in connection with a March 7 altercation at an Orlando, Fla., nightclub that left a woman with a cut above her right eye. Sgt. Barbara Jones of the Orlando Police Dept. said Tuesday that the case has been closed since Anshonae Mills declined to press charges after talking with a police officer. In the police report released yesterday, there is a signed statement from Mills, 21, saying, “I refuse to prosecute the perpetrator for the incident.” Mills claims that Holmes, 26, threw a glass of liquor at her after the two argued over a seat in a VIP room. Holmes said a woman threw the glass that hit Mills in the face, according to the police report.

Fantasy Impact: This is good news for Santonio Holmes, but another distraction the Steelers will have to deal with this off season. Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger is under investigation for sexual assault in Milledgeville, Ga. and continues to be a no-show at training sessions.

Matt Ware stays with Cardinals

Email Post Email Post

Update: Safety Matt Ware has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora.

Fantasy Impact: Ware is more of a depth signing as he did not really have a major impact on the Cardinals defense in 2009.  He will look to improve upon his one interception from last year.

Skins to work out Clausen

Email Post Email Post

Update: Notre Dame product Jimmy Clausen will workout for the Washington Redskins on April 15, according to the Washington Post.

Fantasy Impact: The Skins are in the hunt for a quarterback, and it will likely be Clausen if they decide to take a QB as all signs point to Sam Bradford being gone before they pick.

Edwards could be Bills starter

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Buffalo News, Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards thinks he has a legitimate shot at being named the team’s starting quarterback for the 2010 season.  He lost his starting job last season mainly due to a rash of injuries he suffered.

Fantasy Impact: Ryan Fitzpatrick stepped in for him last year, but did nothing to unseat Edwards.  Look for this to be a QB battle well into the preseason.

Lakers/Cavs Finals? Think Again (Part 1-The L.A. Story)

Email Post Email Post
kobe-bryant

If last season you were sitting in front of your TV and you were drowning in all of the Kobe & LeBron collision hype, you weren’t alone. As a matter of fact, we were all in that same pool my friend!

If you didn’t throw up last season, prepare to completely hurl your breakfast, lunch, and dinner this year, because if this season’s Cavs and Lakers aren’t as stacked as heck, then I don’t know what is.

While there is much belief this Finals dream will become reality, there is always the alternate side of the story. Maybe a Denver-Cleveland Finals? Dallas-Orlando? (God no!) Los Angeles-Boston?

You never know, but here’s a couple reasons why a Cavs-Lakers Finals just might be interrupted by a couple other great teams.

Raiders front runners for McNabb

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to ESPN.com, the Oakland Raiders have emerged as the leading candidate to sign Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. Of all the teams the Eagles have spoken with, the Raiders have been the most willing to meet the Eagles’ asking price. Last week, The Associated Press reported that the Eagles want a pick in the top 42 of the 2010 draft for McNabb. Oakland has a second-round pick that is the 39th overall selection. McNabb’s contract, which has one year and $11.2 million left on it, has scared off other teams, according to sources.

Fantasy Impact: This would be a huge impact for the Raiders if they acquire the Pro Bowl quarterback.

Buchanon signs deal with Redskins

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins have signed CB Phillip Buchanon to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million, plus another $750,000 in incentive money. Buchanon, an eight-year veteran, will give the team much-needed experience in the secondary this season. “We are very excited to add a veteran corner, such as Phillip, to our defensive backfield,” Coach Mike Shanahan said in a statement released by the team. “He has had a lot of success in this league and brings with him the ability to create turnovers. He will be a big part of what we are trying to accomplish defensively in Washington.” Buchanon was set to earn $3.5 million from the Lions before the team released him earlier this month.

Fantasy Impact: The Redskins will be Buchanon’s fifth team in seven seasons.

Chargers Sign Vasher

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to San Diego Union-Tribune, the San Diego Chargers signed former Bears CB Nathan Vasher to a two-year contract on Monday. Vasher, 28, would make $4.5 million if he plays the entire contract, but it is not known how much of that money is guaranteed. Groin and wrist injuries, among other maladies, have limited Vasher to only a 11 starts over the past three seasons. He regained his starting job last summer, but was demoted after the season opener and was released by the Bears two weeks ago.

Tebow Works Out for Bills

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to Buffalo News, Florida QB Tim Tebow had his pre-draft workout with the Buffalo Bills on Monday. Tebow was among about a dozen college prospects who visited the Bills. Tebow’s visit included dinner with Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly on Sunday evening. Every NFL team is allowed to bring 30 draft prospects to its facility for visits in the weeks leading up to the draft.

Fantasy Impact: Other teams on Tebow’s visit schedule include the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks.

Should Hawk Fans Be Scared?

Email Post Email Post

Hawk fans were used to their team dominating other teams without too many gaps in between wins, but a recent uncanny slump has put the whole fan base on the edge of their seats. It’s not just that they are losing, but they are looking bad when they are losing.

The 4-2 loss Sunday looked almost as bad as the 8-3 loss last Thursday as the Hawks lacked any work ethic or motivation. Injuries to Brian Campbell and Kim Johnsson can’t be excuses for the teams’ poor playing.

But if you remember, the Hawks went through something exactly like this last season at about the same time as this year.

Roethlisberger Misses Monday Workout

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com reports that Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger did not attend the teams workouts on Monday.

Fantasy Impact: The workouts are not mandatory and concentrate more on weightlifting and getting back into football shape. Roethlisberger’s return to the team has likely been delayed due to the ongoing investigation into an assault charge brought against him.
