Dansby could land in New England

Email Post Email Post

Update: Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post is speculating that free agent Karlos Dansby could land in New England. He labels the Giants and Dolphins as other potential teams that may show interest.

Fantasy Impact:  Dansby is a game changer that could help any team if he is used in an effective role.  He was arguably the Arizona Cardinals most valuable defensive players, and will surely be missed in that defense.

Bills may part with RB Lynch

Update: According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the Buffalo Bills are expected to shop running back Marshawn Lynch this offseason.

Fantasy Impact: Lynch is a guy who may draw interest, depending on what the Bills are looking for in return. Given Fred Jackson is productive and capable of being the guy in Buffalo, the Bills do not need Lynch and could use him as trade bait.  His off the field problems might limit the value teams are willing to give up in return for him.

Fantasy Baseball Sleeper Picks: Outfielders

fantasy baseball sleeper picks - outfield - carlos gonzalez, chris coghlan

Last week, we kicked off our 2010 fantasy baseball coverage with an overview of this season’s projected sleeper picks, including a couple of choice names to watch out for as sleepers at catcher, and we also looked at potential infield sleepers.

This week we will look to the outfield and the pitcher’s mound to complete our four-part preseason sleeper series.

Starting today with the outfielders, we’ll look at two guys who came on very strong in the second half of last season. Both of these guys – Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies and Chris Coghlan of the Marlins – probably contributed to a lot of late season surges by prescient owners who snatched them up before anyone else realizes how well they were playing.

Vikings to tender Edwards

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Minnesota Vikings are expected to tender Ray Edwards, a pending restricted free agent, with a one-year deal this offseason.

Fantasy Impact: By tendering Edwards the Vikings would basically prohibit another team from signing him because he would they would have to give up a first- and third-round pick, and that won't happen.  Expect Edwards to be a Viking.

Smith has surgery

Update: According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals offensive tackle Andre Smith underwent surgery on his left foot last week.

Fantasy Impact: Smith was a non factor last season for the Bengals as he was a cap hold out, and then ended up getting hurt.  The team is hoping that he can rehab and be back on the field in time for workouts, and demonstrate that he was worthy of the 6th pick in the draft.

Mid-Major Madness Starts Early as Butler downs CSU 70-59

There are some things simpler in the mid-major world of college basketball when compared to its BCS contemporaries.

Less cameras, less reporters, less pressure from boosters, less temptations from street agents, and oh yeah, less dance cards available come March.  No need to worry about getting that signature win on the road out of conference to impress the selection committee, and no need to fret over a collasle let-down against a team you should have beaten.

All you have to worry about is one thing: win your conference tournament.  Do that, and your season’s a success.

Niners won’t resign Battle

Email Post Email Post

Update: The San Francisco 49ers are not expected to re-sign Arnaz Battle, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Fantasy Impact: Battle should latch on with another team as he is a nice weapon in the return game, but he failed to make an impact as a wide receiver with the Niners who really did not have much depth at the position.

Kolb rumors not true

Email Post Email Post

Update: GCOBB.com which is the website of former Eagle Garry Cobb was reporting that the Eagles had engaged in talks with backup quarterback Kevin Kolb about a contract extension.  The report on the site is nothing but a fabricated rumor at this point according to NovaFantasySports.com sources.

Fantasy Impact:  One has to agree that this is nothing but a rumor, as any talk of any extension with Kolb would surely limit Donovan McNabb's trade value if the team was in fact moving in a different direction then No. 5.  Stay tuned for more.

Westbrook not retiring

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will not retire this offseason.  When asked about his future, Westbrook replied, "My goal is to get back out there and play football again," he said.

Fantasy Impact: Westbrook's production has clearly declined over the past two season, and he was a non factor down the stretch for the Birds.  Given his salary for 2010, it is not far fetched that the Eagles may cut their former star.

Quennville Gives Niemi The Nod For Third Straight Game

Email Post Email Post

Blackhawks’ coach Joel Quennville announced Friday afternoon that goaltender Antti Niemi will be getting his third straight start against the Atlanta Thrashers Saturday night.

“He’s coming off a couple of strong wins,” Quenneville said after practice on Friday. “He’s got some momentum in his game right now. Let’s keep it going.”

Niemi has been great in goal recently for the Hawks, beating both St. Louis 2-1 and Dallas 4-3 in a shootout. It’ll be another great chance for the youngster to further prove he is the goalie for the Hawks in the future. This is the first time Niemi has started three games in a row.
