sking knee injury - acl, lcl, mcl, pcl

The most common types of skiing knee injuries typically involve the lower extremity. Newer technologies such as breakaway bindings have cut down on fractures and decreased the chance of injury, but the biomechanics of the sport still lead a number of knee injuries.

In a ski boot, the foot and ankle are fairly locked into place, but the knee is unprotected and often bears greater pressure and is at a higher risk for injury. The most common skiing knee injuries for are sprains or tears of the MCL (medial collateral ligament) or the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).

Hentrich finished the 2009 season on injured reserve after suffering a calf injury in the Sept. 20 game against the Texans. Hentrich ranks seventh in NFL history with 1,150 punts and was named to two Pro Bowls in his career

Pace Still Ponders Retirement

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Bears' OT Orlando Pace continues to ponder a permanent vacation from football. Retirement could be near for the 34-year-old veteran and seven-time Pro Bowl selection. "It's still up in the air," Pace said by phone Tuesday from his home in Orlando. "I'm still feeling my way through this. I haven't talked to anyone in the organization about it yet. That probably should be happening in the next week or so."

Fantasy Impact: With the Bears now considering Pace a backup to starting left tackle Chris Williams, the best option seemingly would be a mutual parting. Retirement would allow Pace to walk away under his own terms rather than having to be released.

With the NHL on hiatus the only way for a hockey fan to see some hockey is to watch the Olympics.

The USA earned a solid 3-1 win over the Swiss.

Scorers for team USA were David Backes, Bobby Ryan, and Ryan Malone.

Kerney not ready to retire

Email Post Email Post

Update: NFL.com is reporting that Seattle Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney indicated Tuesday that he will return for at least one more season in 2010. Kerney had surgery on his elbow, and now believes he will be healthy enough to play.

Fantasy Impact:  Kerney's contract calls for him to make $5.6M in 2010, which the team clearly will not pay for a 33 year old DE.  He will be asked to take a pay cut, and may end up having to play someplace else.

Ravens take shot on Stallworth

Email Post Email Post

Update: Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent wide receiver Donte' Stallworth to a one-year, $900,000 contract. Another $300K is available attainable with playing time incentives.

Fantasy Impact:  The team is still waiting on Derrick Mason to decide if he will return for another season, so the move makes sense for them although Stallworth has never shown he is capable of being an impact receiver.

Update:  The Washington Post is reporting that new Redskins running backs coach Bobby Turner said that Clinton Portis "definitely" has something left."

Fantasy Impact:  Portis' contract calls for $6.43M in guaranteed money for 2010, but it appears that the new coaching staff is behind keeping the running back.  Either that or they are talking him up so they can increase his trade value.

Andrews could be done in Philly

Update:  The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that after just one season with the Eagles, Stacy Andrews will apparently have to reconstructure his deal and take a pay cut if he wishes to stay with the team.  Andrews signed a six-year, $38.9 million contract last offseason.

Fantasy Impact:  Andrews had no impact with the team, and barely saw action.  The bigger issue is his brother Shawn who has been criticized by many for not even wanting to play football.

Purdue-Ohio State Preview: Thad Matta and the Buckeyes Look to Hold off Surging Boilers

Email Post Email Post
thad-matta-ohio-state-purdue

The Purdue Boilermakers started out their Big Ten campaign with just two wins in their first five conference games. Since then, they have been significantly better though, racking up a crisp and clean seven-game winning streak.

In that time, Purdue has topped a few quality outfits, including a recent two-point win at the Breslin Center over a Top 25 team in Michigan State.

While Purdue’s shooting seems to come and go, mostly depending on whether they are at home or on the road, one thing that remains constant is their defense. In their most recent two games against Michigan State and Iowa, the Boilermakers held their competition to just 31% shooting from the field and just 12-of-43 from three-point range.

While the Boilermakers have been hot, they will still be looking to avenge a previous loss from earlier this year on Wednesday. The Boilermakers lost 70-66 at home to Ohio State earlier in the year, which dropped them to 2-2 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers blew a 13-point lead with seven minutes remaining only to lose by four.

Blowing big leads has been an issue for Purdue and they’ll have to play much better to beat Ohio State on the road.
