Dansby won’t be franchised

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Cardinals will not apply the franchise tag to pending free agent lineback Karlos Dansby for the third consecutive year. The Cardinals will let Dansby hit the open market while "monitoring" the situation.

Fantasy Impact:  This basically means Dansby is done in Arizona.  Dansby will get big time money thrown his way, and the Giants, Dolphins, Redskins, and Eagles are potential suitors.

Rams may show interest in Scheffler

Email Post Email Post

Update: St. Louis Post Dispatch writer Jim Thomas suggests the Rams could show interest in trading for Broncos restricted free agent tight end Tony Scheffler. Scheffler is a top pass-catching tight end, but clearly did not mesh with first year head coach Josh McDaniels, and his offensive game plan.

Fantasy Impact:  The Broncos would probably be open to dealing Scheffler if the right package came along.

Rams serious about Vick

Update: According Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, there is a "60-40" chance that Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will end up in St. Louis this offseason. "All signs point to the fact that the Rams are seriously interested in Vick," explains Thomas.

Fantasy Impact: The Rams will likely look to deal for Vick who is due a roster bonus from the Eagles in two weeks in the amount of $1.5M. The Eagles are in a tough spot as they must move at least one quarterback, and possibly two.

Saints sign Na’Shan Goddard

Update: According to the National Football Post, the New Orleans Saints have signed Na'Shan Goddard to a futures contract.

Fantasy Impact:  He will stay with the team most likely on the practice squad.  He was picked up back in January and added to the practice squad.  He has no chance of making the roster.

Patriots in limbo with Thomas

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Boston Globe is reporting that the New England Patriots have yet to communicate with linebacker Adalius Thomas this offseason.  One thing is certain, and that is that the Patriots will not do anything regarding Thomas' future with the team prior to March 5th, because it would put them over the 2009 salary cap.

Fantasy Impact:  Speculation is that the Pats want to part ways with Thomas because he is overpaid, but they know should they do that there is a good chance he will re-unite with Rex Ryan who he worked with Baltimore, and the Pats do not want to play him as a Jet twice a year.

USA Hockey Team Routs Norway 6-1, Building Hype for Sunday’s Match Against Canada

Email Post Email Post

It was a much better win for team USA this afternoon as they handed Norway a 6-1 loss earlier today.

Norway, talent wise, is not as good as Switzerland, but it was a much needed rout as the USA will face the much-favored Canada team Sunday.

“We know our game has to get better, especially in the neutral zone, in order to beat a team of the caliber of the Canadians or the Russians,” David Backes said.

Their game is going to have to get better if they want to pull an upset against the Canadians, who just beat Switzerland 3-2 in OT. It’ll be an early test for the young American team who still haven’t fully gotten used to each other.

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to NFL.com, Cleveland Browns' return specialist Joshua Cribbs has made significant progress on a new contract with the Cleveland Browns. The negotiations between Cribbs and the Browns has greatly improved since Tom Heckert took over as GM last month. The sides have the framework of a three-year deal that would replace the three years left on Cribbs' current contract, but they are continuing negotiations on the amount of guaranteed money, according to league sources. Cribbs wants around $10 million guaranteed, but the Browns have offered just half of that at this time.

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to NFL.com, The Philadelphia Eagles have until the first week of the league year, March 5, to deal Vick before having to pay him a $1.5 million roster bonus. Rams won’t release Bulger yet

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the St. Louis Rams will not rush to release quarterback Marc Bulger.  The team is evaluating their options before making a decision.

Fantasy Impact: Bulger is done in St. Louis, take that to the bank.  The Rams are just trying to position themselves for a trade (previously said to be interested in Michael Vick) or the NFL draft.  By releasing Bulger now, they would be showing their cards too early.

Lewis not done yet

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Associated Press is reporting that recently released Browns running back Jamal Lewis says he still plans to play in 2010, depsite saying previously that he was retiring after the 2009 season.

Fantasy Impact:  Lewis is very fragile at this point in his career, and it might be hard for him to find another team willing to take a shot on him at this point in his career.  He no longer has that break away speed.

Ravens to keep RB group in tact

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora's Twitter page, the Baltimore Ravens are apparently intent on keeping running back Willis McGahee for the 2010 season even though he is slated to make $3.6 million.

Fantasy Impact:  The Ravens seem to love the Ray Rice / McGahee combo. McGahee should continue to see his carries reduced in favor of Rice.

tiger woods press conference time - tv - live streaming

After a few weeks during which it was all (basically) quiet on the Tiger Woods front, the world’s most famous golfer and philanderer is right back at the epicenter of the news this week.

As you undoubtedly have heard, Woods has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow to make his first public comments since his Thanksgiving weekend car accident and the subsequent flood of allegations regarding his extramarital excess.

He is rumored to have participated in a sex rehab program in the interim, but it has never been confirmed. Woods and wife Elin remain together but most reports have indicated that they are far from any kind of reconciliation.

So how has the sports world responded to the news that Tiger will finally talk?

Well let’s see…

  • Some of his golfing peers are not happy
  • One former sponsor has to be pissed off
  • Many still revel in mocking him
  • His fans and the sports world at large are certainly curious about what he will say
  • The media is frustrated and disappointed, but shrugging its shoulders at Tiger’s insistence on controlling every aspect of the situation.

Let’s break each of these down.
