Brackett could be done in Indy

Email Post Email Post

Update: Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett had a solid season in 2009 with the Colts, but it might have been his last.  Brackett is an unrestricted free agent, and during a radio appearance, Colts president Bill Polian said, "I made it clear to Gary on Sunday night that we very much want him back and will do what is necessary within all reasonable bounds to get him back,".

Fantasy Impact: According to what Brackett's agent, Brian Mackler, told Phil Richards of the Indianapolis Star, the two sides are still talking, but as Richards notes, the March 5 deadline is fast approaching.

Chargers to move Cason to corner

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers are expected to make Antoine Cason a starting cornerback in 2010. The move would make sense given the Chargers are looking to deal Antonio Cromartie.

Fantasy Impact:  Cason was a first round talent, and he has been playing out of position with the Chargers as he was a corner in college.  Moving him to corner alongside Quentin Jammer would likely see an increase in his impact with the team.

Cards to tender Breaston

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to azcardinals.com, the team is expected to make wide receiver Steve Breaston a first-round tender offer sometime in the next few days. Breaston may become a starter next season if Boldin ends up being traded out of Arizona.

Fantasy Impact:  The Cards have to offer him a first round tender otherwise he would certainly get picked up by another team.  The main concern in Arizona is how the wideouts will perform now with Matt Leinart at the helm.

Cards to release Rolle

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to azcardinals.com, the team is expected to release free safety Antrel Rolle sometime this week.  The move is expected to be made to avoid paying him a roster bonus which is $4M.

Fantasy Impact:  The team was trying to sign Rolle to an extension, but were unable to get it done.  He now will most likely sign elsewhere. He will clearly get a ton of interest on the free agent market.

Baskett done in Indy

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Indianapolis Star, wide receiver Hank Baskett is not expected to return to the Colts next season. He landed with the Colts during 2009 after being released by the Eagles.

Fantasy Impact: Baskett is a big wideout he should be able to find another job, but with the emergence of the young wideouts in Indy and Anthony Gonzalez expected back, he just doesn't have a role anymore.

Z-Less Cavs Fall To The Magic, Losing Third Straight Game

Email Post Email Post

Since the recent trade of Center and fan favorite Zydrunas Ilgauskas (with rumors circulating that the NBA may try to block his return to Cleveland), nothing has gone right for the Cleveland Cavaliers on the court.

Some call it bad karma, while others say give newly acquired All Star Forward Antawn Jamison a little more time to adjust to his new team.

Either way, the Cavs have lost three straight games–for the first time, since 2008. The most recent loss being fueled by Vince Carter and his Orlando Magic’s 101-95 nationally televised win on their home court. And this may be the most disappointing loss for Cavs fans (who were looking for a sweep), because Lebron and Company already beat the Magic twice this season.

Blogging Fitness: This Daring Young Lass on the Flying Trapeze

trapeze-fitness

Flying trapeze provides stellar workout for the upper body and core strength.

All eyes on me in the center of the ring, just like a circus…

Well all eyes were certainly on me, but that could be due to the slur of profanities escaping my screaming lips.

My stomach felt as if it had leaped from the trunk of my body to the summit of the arched ceiling at the Trapeze School of New York.

When Bracket Busters Bust…

Email Post Email Post
northern-iowa-odu

…You end up with an ESPNU Bracketbuster game like the one I was at on Saturday featuring a team with 3 wins.

That would be Toledo, who rode into Cleveland for a match-up against the CSU Vikings with 24 losses to go along with those 3 wins.  The Rockets eventually rode out 3 – 25, and there wasn’t a bracket anywhere that noticed the loss.

Not that the Vikings - who won by 24 (87-63) - sent Joe Lunardi back to his dry-erase board either after pushing their overall record to 14-15, because I imagine he was watching other games.   But I watched this one, and did so with some previous anticipation of the game date - the schedule clearly read ESPNU Bracketbuster game at the start of the season.

Sounded exciting enough, only it wasn’t, and it left me wondering as the second half route wore on, how’s this happen?

Chicago Cubs’ Randy Wells Is One to Watch in 2010

Email Post Email Post
randy wells, pitcher, chicago cubs

If there was a single ray of hope that shined last year for the Cubs, it was pitcher Randy Wells. In a year full of disappointments and distractions, the Cubs had one player who looked to be growing in talent and not wasting it.

Wells’ numbers were very good for a rookie season: 12-10 with a 3.05 ERA and a 5.65 K/9 rate.

With those numbers alone there is hope that Wells can become a #2 starter in the future. But the numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Dolphins make target WR Bryant

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Miami Herald is speculating that the Dolphins may target Tampa Bay Bucs free agent wideout Antonio Bryant once free agency begins. Bryant is from Miami and is the big wide receiver that young quarterback Chad Henne needs.

Fantasy Impact: Bryant may not land in Miami because he has a history of bad blood with boss Bill Parcells from back when Parcells was in Dallas.  This is nothing but a rumor right now, but it makes sense for the Dolphins who need help at the wide receiver position.

Dolphins Allen arrested for DUI

Email Post Email Post

Update: Pro Football Talk is reporting that Miami Dolphins cornerback Will Allen has reportedly been arrested for DUI in Miami. Allen was allegedly waiting in traffic and "making a ruckus" when police arrived at his vehicle only to discover that he was drunk.

Fantasy Impact:  Certainly not the start to the offseason that Allen was looking for.   Stay tuned for mor on this to see if the Dolphins take any action on Allen.

Giants interested in Dansby

Email Post Email Post

Update: The New York Post is reporting that Arizona Cardinals free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby is on the Giants radar this offseason.

Fantasy Impact: This comes as no surprise as the Giants are certainly in need of a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball.  Their defensive which is typically one of their strong points was flat out terrible this past season.

All of the Brett Favre fans out there (attention Christophs…) are going to love this.

It’s called “The Ballad of Brett Favre: I Will If You Let Me and was written by Gayle Cuevas and performed by Kevin and Chris Cuevas. (Hat tip to Deadspin for this one.)

And yes, it’s exactly what you might expect from some musical Mississippians who are proud of their state’s most celebrated sports hero.

Weekend Whimsy: The 5 Greatest Moments in the History of “The Final Countdown”

videos - the final countdown - funniest moments

As our regular readers know well, we occasionally step outside the realm of sports here at MSF if we think a non-sports post will be entertaining, funny, enlightening, or help out a good cause.

The fact of the matter is that I am in Internet junkie and come across stuff all the time that I think readers will enjoy and, well, until I have another site to post this stuff on, it will continue to get dumped on MSF…and hopefully you will continue to be entertained by it.

Today, I stumbled across a video of some dudes doing an a capella version of “The Final Countdown” by Europe. This song has one of the most unique and recognizable synthesizer openings in the history of music and, for whatever reason, has always caused KVB and I to giggle like idiots whenever we hear it.

Because I am a blogger, which means I am trained to aggregate and create lists, I decided to spend a few productive moments this morning rounding up the greatest moments in the history of “The Final Countdown”.

Epic Battle: The Two Worst Sportscasts of All Time

Email Post Email Post
lorchast v boom goes the dynamite - brian collins and matt lorch

As usual, today’s Hot Clicks was full of tasty morsels of sporting goodness, with the video below being the highlight.

The video features Matt Lorch (hence the name “Lorchcast”) and is quite possibly the worst sportscast of all time when you consider the host’s failures and the numerous production mishaps.

It was uploaded to YouTube on August 18th of 2006, so it’s not new. But it is funny…very funny…because, well, you just don’t get to see this kind of ineptitude on television very often.

As Jimmy Traina says in his Hot Clicks introduction to the video “sit back, relax and enjoy it.”
