Saints uncertain on Bush

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Detroit News is reporting that the New Orleans Saints will face a decision regarding running back Reggie Bush.  Bush is slated to make $8 million next season and his salary cap number will be $13.5 million.  The Saints certainly aren't going to want to keep him at that price.

Fantasy Impact:  Bush is owed nearly $20 million for the final two years of the six-year, $52.5 million deal he signed with the Saints as the No. 2 pick in 2006. Should Bush refuse to restructure his deal (which is likely), he could end up being released.  Stay tuned.

…And the Yoga was hot, hot, hot

I have made my workout preferences clear, stating that I need a major sweat-drenching routine and that I like it bouncy.

However, I might be changing my tune a bit.

Recently, I have felt my flexibility might be dwindling a bit so I decided to focus some of my attention on Yoga and Pilates. Over the past two weeks, I made it a goal to add in some Yoga and Pilates classes as a supplement to my traditional routine.

Over this short amount of time, I have come to see how people get hooked on this relaxing, but challenging, form of exercise.

Gilyard Hopes to Play for Bengals

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Dayton Daily News, former University of Cincinnati WR Mardy Gilyard says it would be his dream to be drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals. “It would be a dream come true to be drafted by the Bengals,” Gilyard, a Miami native, said in a recent phone interview. “Cincinnati is my second home. The way the whole city has adapted to me and embraced me with warm arms, it would be great. “The jungle would rock if I get an opportunity to become a Bengal. Regardless of what round I’m drafted.”

The Bengals have the No. 21 overall selection in the NFL draft. The team doesn’t pick again until the 54th overall selection when the former Bearcat receiver is likely to be off the board due to a great performance at the Senior Bowl last month. “My goal is not to be a first-round draft pick, but to be drafted,” Gilyard said. “I feel like I’m that much closer to my goal with a strong showing at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. I would love to be drafted by any team, but like I said it would be a dream come true to go to Cincinnati.”

Fantasy Impact: There has been ongoing speculation that the Cincinnati Bengals are in need of a playmaker. Look for Gilyard to be a potential candidate for the Bengals.

Brent Sopel is Becoming Hawks’ Most Underrated Player

brent sopel - chicago blackhawks

More and more I have come to love Blackhawks’ defensemen Brent Sopel. Sopel doesn’t put up big numbers, he doesn’t score a lot of goals, he doesn’t even get many assists. Yet, his presence is always felt on the ice.

Sopel does something that is always overlooked, but is absolutely necessary if a team wants to win games: he blocks shots and plays unselfish defense.

Tuesday’s game against Dallas was a perfect example of Sopel doing what he does best.

Eagles Move Nagy to Administrative Role

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Eagles have hired Matt Nagy, who was a coaching intern with the team, to an administrative position this week. A team spokesman said yesterday that the 31-year-old former Arena League quarterback would not be a part of coach Andy Reid's staff. In August, Nagy practiced for one day with the team during training camp when the Eagles added the intern to their roster after backup Kevin Kolb injured his knee. Nagy was scheduled to play in the first preseason game, but by the end of the day, Nagy's contract was voided by the league because his Arena League deal had not expired. Nagy, who played college football at Delaware, returned to being an intern for the rest of camp.

Westbrook Returned Too Early from Concussion

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to NFL.com, Philadelphia Eagles' RB Brian Westbrook says he returned back to the field too early from his first concussion, which he suffered against the Redskins in Week 7. Westbrook appeared in just eight games and posted his worst statistics since his rookie year in 2002. “I waited three weeks to get back out there, and … you have a normal hit that kind of just glances off of you, or you don’t really feel it all that much … and the concussion came right back,” Westbrook said on WGFX. “What happened to me was that I was not completely healed from the first concussion. Even though I waited that long amount of time and passed all the tests, I still wasn’t completely healed from the first concussion, and it came back just like that. After that, I had to sit out another five or six weeks just for me to be completely sure that I was 100 percent OK. These concussions are very serious, man. I don’t think a lot of people are taking them as serious as they should be because really it is a life-or-death thing.”

Jackson Won’t Face Charges

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Rams' RB Steven Jackson will not face charges from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department because of insufficient evidence. Jackson's charges was based on allegations of abuse made by a former girlfriend, Supriya M. Harris.

"He was never charged," said Officer Barbara Morgan of the public information office of the Las Vegas police. "We received a police report from her from the other agency. We did an investigation. We talked to the (alleged) victim. Talked to the accused. Talked to the witnesses. And determined there was insufficient evidence to go forward with the case. It will be closed."

Harris, 29, whose allegations became public Jan. 28, had accused Jackson of pushing her repeatedly and throwing her against a door when she was nine months pregnant with the couple's son, Kingston. Harris said the incident occurred on March 8, 2009 at Jackson's Las Vegas home. Jackson denied the allegations earlier and said in a statement on his website that he would address the issue "thoroughly through the appropriate avenues, but not through the media."

Fantasy Impact: Jackson was a first-round draft pick by the Rams in 2004 and posted his fifth straight 1,000-yard rushing season in 2009. He made his second Pro Bowl this season, but did not participate because of a back injury.

Stallworth to Work Out with Lions

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Detroit News, WR Donte' Stallworth will work out with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. Stallworth entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick in 2002 out of Tennessee. He was suspended for the entire 2009 season after pleading guilty to felony DUI manslaughter. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated Stallworth on Sunday and the Cleveland Browns cut him Monday. "I think he recognizes what he did and the horrific nature and the unfortunate outcome and I think he's prepared himself to get back in and play," Goodell said Friday. "So he will be reinstated after the Super Bowl on Sunday."

Fantasy Impact: His best NFL season was with the Saints in 2005 when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns.

Dolphins interested in Boldin

Update:  According to the Miami Herald, "two people in contact with the Dolphins" believe they will pursue Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin this offseason.

Fantasy Impact:  Everyone knows that the Cardinals are interested in moving Boldin, it is just a matter of what they can get with him.

Texans don’t want Tomlinson

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Texans are most likely not interested in running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The team is apparently looking for a younger solution.

Fantasy Impact: The Texans do not seem interested in adding an aging back who is going to want big money and who has declined big time over the past few years.  They could go with the running back crew they currently have, but look for them to be active in the draft and free agency in trying to land a young back who can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Broncos not interested in McNabb

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the Denver Post, there is no truth to the rumors that the Broncos are in discussions about a potential trade with the Eagles for quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Fantasy Impact: The McNabb rumor mill is going to continue to heat up until the Eagles hand is forced.  The upcoming draft will go a long way in telling what McNabb's status will be with the team, as the Eagles would most likely try to deal him or Michael Vick prior to the June draft.
