UPDATE: The Boston Globe Reports for six seasons, New England Partiot DL Vince Wilfork has been a key part of the defensive line. A first-round draft pick out of the University of Miami in 2004, he is facing a career decision. His rookie contract is up and he is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. “As the time ticked off that clock, it kinda dawned on me,’’ Wilfork said after a 13-tackle effort. “I told my teammates, the guys I play with on that defense, ‘I don’t know if this is the last game I play with you or not, but if it is, man, I love you and I’m gonna miss you.’ We’ll go from here and see what happens.’’
FANTASY IMPACT: The Patriots cannot afford to lose a player like Wilfork in free agency. Their once feared defense finished eleventh in total defense during the regular season, their worst finish since 2005. After getting dominated by the Baltimore Ravens’ physical rushing attack, the Patriots clearly need help on defense. That starts with building around players like Wilfork and second year LB Jerod Mayo who led the Patriots in tackles this season.
