It was a forgettable weekend for the Chicago Blackhawks as they dropped both games they played.
The Hawks traveled to Minnesota on Saturday to face the Wild, and after a great start the Hawks feel apart in the 3rd period.
The Hawks were feeling more than good heading into the 3rd period, and who could blame them. They were up 5-1, their offense had scored 4+ goals the last nine games, and the game looked to be in the bag. But as those last 20 minutes went by the Hawks just stopped playing.
The Wild put in three unanswered goals, and suddenly it was already 5-4. The Hawks’ lead dwindled so fast it was almost hard to believe. Then it was 5-5, and we were going to OT. Suddenly the win didn’t look so sure for the Hawks. They had lost all the momentum.
Nobody scored in OT, but the Hawks had most of the looks but were unable to capitalize on any of them. Shootouts soon commenced, and knowing how poorly Huet does in shootouts I wasn’t too confident. Huet made some stops, but in the end the Wild stole a victory right under the Hawks’ feet, winning 6-5.
It was defiantly a tough loss. It was game that the Hawks should have won. It was a game with a lot of should’ves, but something just happened with the Hawks that lead to this breakdown.
Sunday the Hawks had a chance to redeem themselves against a not-so-stellar Anaheim Ducks. Let’s just say it didn’t start very well for the Hawks. They quickly fell behind 0-2, and couldn’t knotch a goal until late 3rd period.
Once that happened it was already to late, and a empty net goal would seal the fate for the Hawks. The Ducks handed the Hawks a 3-1 loss and a two game losing streak.
If the Hawks weren’t in such a good position, and weren’t playing so well I would be scared right now, but I am not. It was just an ugly bump in the road, that a three day break can heal. I expect the Hawks to come back firing this Thursday against division rival Bluejackets.
