Portis To Reunite with Shanahan

Update:  According to the Washington Post's Rick Maese on Twitter, Redskins RB Clinton Portis said Monday on 980 AM in D.C. that he visits the doctor next Tuesday, but he feels good and wants to start prepping for next season.  Portis denies having problems with Redskins owner Dan Snyder.  As for Mike Shanahan, expected to be named the team's head coach today, "I think my personal relationship [as a Bronco] was good with Coach Shanahan," says Portis, who expects Shanahan to have full control.

Fantasy Impact:  Portis' first two seasons in the NFL under Shanahan in Denver were by far his most productive.  He ran for over 1,500 yards in 2002 and 2003 with 14 and 15 rushing TDs, respectively.  With the exception of 2006 and 2009, Portis has stayed healthy for the Redskins.  He turns 29 in September so his 1500-yard, 10+ TD years are probably over.  But at least the coaching change will bring back some familiarity to his early success in the league and could rejuvinate his passion for the game.  Assuming Portis is healthy for the start of next season, he should be considered a good #2 RB worth drafting in the 3rd or 4th rounds with the possibility of regaining the form that made him a legitimate #1 option the first seven years of his career.
