Pat White Injury Update: Taken to Hospital with ‘Head Injury’ (Video of Hit)

Unless you are a Patriots’ fan, in which case the most horrifying moment of the day came when Wes Welker injured his knee, the scariest moment of the early games today came when Dolphins’ QB Pat White was hit by Steelers DB Ike Taylor and then lay virtually motionless on the field before being lifted onto a stretcher.

As you will see in the video, if you didn’t see the play live, White is running for the sidelines and receives helmet-to-helmet contact from Taylor.

Immediately, White’s entire body appears go limp.

To the relief of everyone watching, White was moving his legs. I have to say though that I have never seen a stretcher get to a player quicker than the cart and stretcher got to Pat White today.

The latest Pat White injury update is not very detailed as of 4:15 CT. According to the Miami Herald, White was taken to a local hospital with what is only being termed a “head injury.”

I’ll update this post as soon as I hear more.

Update: Just as my brother suspected after watching the replay of Wes Welker’s injury, the Patriots’ WR has most likely torn his MCL. Unfortunately, he likely also tore his ACL, this via a recent tweet by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

that hit was so scary!! i'm a Steelers fan myself, but i felt so much empathy for the Dolphins. I know what it's like to lose a teammate due to injury in a game. thank you for posting this!

All I can say to the above is that Pat White's hit was MUCH MUCH more scarier than Wes Welker's knee injury. I am praying for Pat White and his recovery as well as his family at this time. I can only imagine their grief seeing that happen to him. I was horrified when I saw it and it brought tears to my eyes. God be with you, Pat White and a speedy recovery.

As Chris Tucker said to Debo in Friday " he got knocked the fuck out!!!) Thats why I love this game

I agree (about the scary hit) but it's totally rediculous a man is literally at the sideline and the opponent has to hit him in the manner he did. Pretty ironic Pat was born and raised in the PIttsburgh area. The defensive player could not have only ended the mans career but ended his life as he knew it. It is NOT worth it!!!!

Collette, Pat White is an Alabama native, not from Pittsburgh area. He did attend West Virginia University, about an hour and a half south of Pittsburgh.

Pat White is going to be just fine it is football not flag football. I would like to talk about the Steelers taking a Knee in a prayer circle & Ike Taylor sportsmanship & talking to Pat White right up to the last minute!

  • WVpatsnumberonefan

I am neither a Steelers fan or Dolphins fan, but Pat Whites my boy & yes, he will be a Mountaineer for life :D
& i agree that was kind & nice of the Steelers to pray for him and for Ike to show great sportsmanship and to go over and talk to Pat.. Get well soon Pat! Your the greatest.!

Scary stuff indeed. I too am a die-hard Steelers but I NEVER want to see stuff like that happen. Kudos to Mike Tomlin and Jon Norwig (Steelers' trainer) for being so quick to go to Pat White's aid and get the Miami training staff to him so quickly.

That hit was completely unnecessary as Pat was on his way out of bounds. This injury could have been prevented if the Ike Taylor had been more aware of his surroundings. Common sense tells you that he is on his way out of bounds as he has no where else to go except to cut back to the inside. So instead of delivering that hit he could have waited to see which choice pat was going to make. Clearly Ike Taylor and Ryan Clark are having a competition to see who can deliver the biggest hit regardless of what happens to their "victim." Willis McGahee, Wes Welker, Pat White, and so many others have felt the pain of these two Steelers. All it takes is to deliver the hit the wrong way and someone's career, possibly their own, will be over due to injury. Big hits are part of the game, but do it safely so no one's career is ended early.

Does anyone know how Pat is doing? That was the scariest hit I have ever seen. I have heard nothing about Pat's condition, I hope and pray that he is ok. Steeler Fan

As far as I know he was out the hospital the next day with "just" a mild concussion. So I expect that he's fine.
