The early (real early) line is up for Super Bowl XLIV, and no one should be surprised that the Colts are the favorites.

Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints Punch Tickets to Miami for Super Bowl XLIV

This afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts took care of the New York Jets to ensure that the Midwest would be represented by at least one team in this year’s Super Bowl.
And tonight the New Orleans Saints made sure that the Colts woud be the only Midwest team traveling to Miami next week. Although, to be honest, it was really more a matter of the Vikings giving the game away than the Saints winning it.
Regardless of how they did it, the Colts and Saints will be meeting up in Super Bowl XLIV, and it’s a game that hopefully will be as interesting and compelling on the field as it appears to be on paper.

UPDATE: NFL.com reports that Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Farve is 28 of 46 for 310 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions heading into overtime tied with New Orleans Saints 28-28 in the NFC championship.
FANTASY IMPACT: Farve and Saints’ QB Drew Brees are locked in a shootout. The Vikings have had a balanced attack on offense, but have struggled with turnovers (four fumbles and two interceptions). Farve is battling an ankle injury, and seems to be struggling with his accuracy late in the game.

UPDATE: NFL.com Reports that New York Jets’ RB’s Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene ran for a combined 83 yards and no touchdowns in today’s 30-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC championship.
FANTASY IMPACT: The 83 yards marks the Jets lowest rushing total of the postseason. Rookie sensation RB Shonn Greene was held to 41 yards on 10 carries and left the game in the second half with a rib injury. The Jets got most of their offense through the air, and threw the ball more once the Colts built a two score lead.

UPDATE: NFL.com reports that Indianapolis Colts’ WR Austin Collie had seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown today in the Colts’ 30-17 victory over the New York Jets for the AFC championship.
FANTASY IMPACT: Collie’s seven catches for 123 yards marks a career high in both categories. It was his first 100-yard day of his career. Collie and Colts’ QB Peyton Manning took advantage of a Jets’ secondary that struggled with injuries and communication all game.

UPDATE: NFL.com reports that New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez was 17 of 30 for 257 yards with two touchdowns and one late interception in the Jets’ 30-l7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts today for the AFC championship.
FANTASY IMPACT: Sanchez, who is just the forth rookie QB to lead his team to the conference championship in NFL history, looked great in today’s game. His 17 completions are the most he has thrown this postseason, and he finished the game without getting sacked. But as the Colts’ lead grew the rookie QB began to struggle, throwing a late interception that sealed the game for the Colts.

FANTASY IMPACT: Garcon came up huge today showing his sharp route running skills and great hands. Colts’ QB Peyton Manning took advantage of a struggling Jets’ secondary that could not keep up with Garcon and Colts’ WR Austin Collie. The one bright spot for the Jets’ secondary was who else but CB Darrelle Revis who help Colts’ WR Reggie Wayne to three catches for 55 yards.

Super Bowl XLIV Ticket & Suite Prices, Plus Date-Time-TV-Announcer Info

There is no ticket in sports more sought after and expensive than tickets to the Super Bowl. And with four compelling matchup possibilities based on what happens today, I would expect that tickets will be going for even more than usual.
How much could you fetch for a ticket to a Manning-Favre Super Bowl? How high would the prices go in New York if the Jets make their first Super Bowl since Super Bowl III? And then consider if the Jets play the Vikings and Favre, their quarterback from last year. Think those might go for pretty high prices?
I think so too.
Regardless of what happens, whether it be Colts-Vikings, Colts-Saints, Jets-Vikings, or Jets-Saints, we will undoubtedly see historic Super Bowl ticket prices this year (even with inflation taken into account).
I decided to take a quick perusal of reseller sites like StubHub, TicketsNow, and Razor Gator to see where prices stand currently, before the matchup is even known.

UPDATE: Phil Richards of IndyStar.com reports it's the game within the game, and Indianapolis Colts DE Robert Mathis and DE Dwight Freeney won't be the only ones playing it. Mathis will line up across from New York Jets OL Damien Woody (6-3, 330), an 11-year veteran and past Pro Bowl player. Freeney will take on Jets OL D'Brickashaw Ferguson (6-6, 310), the fourth pick in the 2006 draft and a Pro Bowler this season. "They're talented, definitely talented," Ferguson conceded of the Colts rushers. "As a line, we're going to put together a plan that will be successful against them."
FANTISY IMPACT: Both Freeney and Mathis will rely on their speed and quickness to get after New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez in the AFC championship game. If the Colts can stop the run and make the Jets one dimensional, Freeney and Mathis will have a field day. A few early sacks on Sanchez could shake his confidence and give the Colt the momentum. Expect the Colts defense to have at least four sacks in the AFC championship game Sunday.
