Update: Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel reports that Seattle Seahawks accept John Schneider as there general manager. Schneider was the director of operations for the Green Bay Packers. He expected to be introduced Wednesday as Seahwawks GM.

Fantasy Impact: It's uncertain how much authority Schneider will have since head coach Pete Carroll was hired first and reportedly given guarantees on personnel decisions.

Saints Place McAllister on Retired List

Email Post Email Post

Update:  According to ESPN's Pat Yasinskas, the comeback for Saints RB Deuce McAllister was effective, but short-lived.  On Tuesday the team placed him on the reserved/retired list.  McAllister wasn't active for Saturday's playoff win over the Cardinals, but he lead the Saints onto the field in a very emotional setting in the Superdome.

Fantasy Impact:  The Saints couldn't afford to keep McAllister around in a ceremonial role.  They need the roster spot to put someone else on the 53-man roster.

Update: Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers are close to hiring Al Everest as their new special teams coordinator. Everest spent the past three seasons with San Francisco 49ers. Everest met with Steelers' head coach Mike Tomilin and is expected to reach an agreement with the team to replace Bob Ligashesky, who was fired after the season. Everest's contract was not renewed by the 49ers, who hired Kurt Schottenheimer as his replacement.

Speedy Recovery Expected from Rodgers-Cromartie

Email Post Email Post

Update: Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that Arizona Cardinals' CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suffered no significant ligament damage in his left knee against the Saints on Saturday, but an MRI showed that he does have a chipped bone in his left tibia, according to team officials. Rodgers-Cromartie did suffer an injury to his medial collateral ligament did not tear it. His anterior cruciate ligament was not damaged. "We were scared it might be the ACL, then you're talking six to nine months," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "This was very good news." Rodgers-Cromartie will undergo more tests this week to determine if surgery is necessary, but it's believed that he should recover in a couple months.

Sproles’ 2009 Season a Mystery

Email Post Email Post

Update:  Chargers RB Darren Sproles averaged 11 yards per carry in Sunday's playoff loss to the Jets.  Problem is he only got three carries.  He did have 3 receptions for 30 yards, but as was the case during the regular season, the Chargers offense did not give the elusive speedster enough opportunities.  Instead, RB LaDanian Tomlinson ran 12 times and caught three balls out of the backfield for a combined 24 yards.

Fantasy Impact:  The San Diego Chargers ranked dead last in the NFL with 3.3 yards per carry during the 2009 regular season.  They were 31st in the NFL in rushing yards — only the Indianapolis Colts ran for fewer.  This Sunday's playoff loss to the Jets was no different as the Chargers ran for just 61 yards and averaged 3.4 yards per carry.  As ESPN's Bill Williamson writes, "San Diego needs to find a big, strong primary runner.  As painful as it is to come to grips with, LaDainian Tomlinson’s days as a primary back are over.  Sproles is a nice change-of-pace guy. San Diego has to find a solid primary back either in the draft or in free agency."  Sproles will not be a reliable fantasy option until he is given the opportunity to be a #1 back, which seems unlikely in 2010.

Win or Loose: Ellis Will Have Surgery

Email Post Email Post

Update: Vinny Ditrani of NorthJersy.com reports that New York Jets' DL Shaun Ellis will have surgery on his broken right hand Monday whether they win or lose Sunaday's AFC title game. Ellis broke his hand on the first play of Sunday’s 17-14 win over the San Diego Chargers. To have necessary screws implanted this week would mean he would have to sit out vs. the Colts. "The skin would not have healed in time for me to play this week," Ellis said. With two weeks between the title game and super bowl, Ellis will receive the time needed for his hand to heal before the super bowl if the Jets manage to beat the Colts on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Ryan said Ellis’ injury was the only one of note from the San Diego game. He said FB Tony Richardson had some bruised ribs and FS Jim Leonhard got hit in the face.

Dolphins Hire Nolan as Defensive Coordinator

Email Post Email Post

Update:  According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have hired Mike Nolan to be their defensive coordinator.

Fantasy Impact:   Nolan takes over a defense that yielded 390 points in 2009, tied for 7th most in the NFL.  He succeeds the recently-fired Paul Pasqualoni and leaves the Denver Broncos after just one year under head coach Josh McDaniels.  The Broncos defense, which allowed 28 points per game in 2008, improved by 7.8 points under Nolan in 2009.  It is considered a very good move by many NFL analysts and media members as Nolan has the 3-4 mind that the Dolphins and head coach Tony Sparano covet.

V-Jack Handcuffed Before Kickoff Sunday

Email Post Email Post

Update:  San Diego's 10 News reports that Chargers WR Vincent Jackson was pulled over Sunday morning by a San Diego police officer just hours before the team's AFC playoff game against the New York Jets.  Stopped because he was playing loud music, Jackson was cited for driving with expired tags and a suspended license, which is a misdemeanor.  Jackson was handcuffed briefly and his car was impounded.  Chargers QB Philip Rivers gave Jackson a ride to Qualcomm Stadium.

Fantasy Impact:  Jackson has been convicted once and charged a second time with driving under the influence. The second charge from January 2009 in which Jackson reportedly had a BAC twice the legal limit is still pending.  He could face a suspension by the league if convicted.  This latest incident is a minor infraction, but it may have played a role in the Chargers' lackluster performance Sunday in losing to the Jets.  Following an incredible catch late in the 4th quarter, Jackson was flagged for a silly unsportmanlike penalty when he kicked the red challenge flag thrown by Jets coach Rex Ryan.  He finished with 7 catches for 111 yards, much of that matched up against Jets All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis, to close out a great fantasy season and make him a solid #1 WR in 2010.

Coach Expects Reed, Mason Return

Email Post Email Post

Update: Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports that Baltimore Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh expects both veteran WR Derrick Mason and veteran CB Ed Reed to return to the club next year despite rumors both men could be retiring.

Fantasy Impact: Mason, 36 and Reed, 31 have both spoken publicly about their thoughts of retirement but haven't hinted which way they lean, with Reed specifically saying he is 50-50 at the moment. Both men are in the latter part of their careers but are still healthy for the most part and still capable of making huge plays.

L.T.’s Future Uncertain

Update: NFL.com reports that San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson's future is quite uncertain, to him and his current club.

Jets Ellis Plans to “Suck it Up”

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Associated Press reports that New York Jets DE Shaun Ellis will play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game despite breaking his left hand in the teams 17-14 victory over The San Diego Chargers.

Fantasy Impact: Ellis didn't have time this week to have it repaired due to the fact that the skin wouldn't have had time to heal and would likely burst stitches, instead he will just be wrapping it up and playing as usual.

Email Post Email Post

Update: Mark Gaughan, of the Buffalo News reports that The Buffalo Bills have called for a press conference for 2:00pm Tuesday, January 19th in which the team is expected to announce the hiring of Chan Gailey as Head Coach.
