NFL Futures Betting: Current Super Bowl XLIV Odds

As you know if you’ve read this site before, I don’t bet on sports.

Very rarely have I ever done so in the past, and save for a friendly wager of dinner here or there with a buddy, I don’t plan to do so in the future.

I do, however, enjoy viewing betting lines. I enjoy the challenge of considering how I would bet if it were my thing, as picking against spreads is infinitely more difficult than picking straight up. I also like to see what the experts believe are the most likely results.

And make no mistake: the people who create betting lines do so with millions of dollars at stake on either side of the line. The most insightful and intelligent experts are crafting these lines, and they are using stats and trends analysis that would probably blow all of our minds.

So, with that said, how do the current NFL futures lines look for the remainder of the playoffs?

To find out, we head over to the sports betting mecca BetUs.com, a site have linked to often in the past. Their current NFL football futures moneylines look as follows:

Futures Odds to win AFC Championship

  • Indianapolis Colts: Even
  • San Diego Chargers: +150
  • Baltimore Ravens: +600
  • New York Jets: +800

Futures Odds to win NFC Championship

  • New Orleans Saints: +130
  • Minnesota Vikings: +260
  • Dallas Cowboys: +280
  • Arizona Cardinals: +600

Futures Odds to win Super Bowl XLIV

  • Indianapolis Colts: +275
  • San Diego Chargers: +350
  • New Orleans Saints: +400
  • Dallas Cowboys: +650
  • Minnesota Vikings: +600
  • Baltimore Ravens: +1200
  • Arizona Cardinals: +1400
  • New York Jets: +1800

Futures Odds to win Super Bowl XLIV MVP

  • Peyton Manning: +200
  • Philip Rivers: +300
  • Tony Romo: +400
  • Drew Brees: +400
  • Brett Favre: +500
  • Adrian Peterson: +800
  • Thomas Jones +1200
  • Joe Flacco: +1400
  • Mark Sanchez: +1800
  • Ray Rice: +1800
  • Kurt Warner: +2000
  • Larry Fitzgerald: +2000

Also, in their Super Bowl XLIV Matchup odds, BetUs.com will make our buddy Big MB (a Colts and Saints fan) quite happy. The most likely Super Bowl matchup, at least according to their odds, is the Colts and Saints (moneyline: +275)

So, what’s the takeaway? Here are a few things that jumped out at me as surprising:

  • Despite the fact they are the defending NFC Champs, the oddsmakers have little love for the Arizona Cardinals.
  • Tony Romo is cast as an equally likely bet as Drew Brees to win Super Bowl MVP. This is interesting, and perhaps incongruous, considering the advantage Brees’ team seems to have in the other lines.
  • As expected, the AFC odds are top heavy and favor the Colts and Chargers. The NFC odds are much more wide open.

Hmm…I don’t know…the more I think about it, that Kurt Warner +2000 isn’t looking too bad right about now. If only he and Larry Fitzgerald could play defense too.
