Reading the posts I would love to give a perspective from a Cardinals fan.. Sosa sucks ass, not because of what he did it was for me, how he did it. In my opinion he was a coward even though nowadays you never admit to what you did voluntary someday a man will atone for his actions. Now with that said, Big Mac isn't much better at least he admitted as much as I hate to admit he really isn't much better because of his intentions he has come clean. Baseball in general is to blame for the MOST part not the players MLB has always looked the other way not condoning what either one has done but Sammy scurried away by going back to his country and hiding. McGwire has come clean, even though it's as sincere as a Tiger Woods apology. Not right but Big Mac still is willing to take some heat.

I think a huge mitigating factor here is the fact that Sosa walked out on the team the last day of his last season here and never even presented the fans with an explanation. If I were still a Cubs fan, I could forgive the corked bat, I could forgive any alleged PEDs, but I can't forgive someone who would choose to hide rather than even offer up an explanation for their transgressions. I know too many people like that in life and it has become my pet peeve.

If Sosa ever came back to the Cubs I would certainly not cheer him. Any athlete that used steroids has lost all respect by me. It's something that I just want to forget.

I'll second Zoner's comments. It is personal preference, but I could not and would not give Sammy a standing ovation, but if someone else does, that is fine with me.

Good stuff, JRod, and I understand your take. But I wouldn't cheer him again, as you mentioned in the post. I totally appreciate what he did here, and it was a fun ride. But a lot of it was fraudulent. I can't cheer that, especially since he has not admitted anything yet.

[...] Since Mark McGwire has been received with open arms by the Cardinal hordes, the question has been posed: Would Slammin’ Sammy be welcomed in Chicago? I think the answer lies is in the fact that McGwire never quit on his team. That sort of thing doesn’t fly so well you see. <midwestsportsfan> [...]
