Yesterday the world heard the much anticipated Tiger Woods text message in which he implores one of his side ladies to remove her name from her voice mail message.
We also got to read Tiger’s statement, which doubled as a half apology and perhaps ill-timed diatribe against the media.
What stories will people be talking today?
Rachel Uchitel claiming that she was lying about not having an affair the Tiger, the current status of Tiger and Elin’s marriage and prenup, and the spot-on comments by Elin’s friend and Tiger’s colleague Jesper Parnevik.
First, in what will end up being the biggest story of the day, the first Tiger mistress who came to light, Rachel Uchitel, is now saying that she was lying for Tiger all along.
So that “coincidental” visit to Australia, during which she stayed at the same hotel? Yeah…not so coincidental. As in, paid for by Tiger.
And the now-infamous car crash that helped to throw lighter fluid on the fire started by the National Enquirer story appears to have been precipitated by Tiger and Uchitel exchanging text messages.
Uchitel is holding a press conference today with her high-powered attorney Gloria Allred to tell her side of the story, I would presume.
At home, things obviously cannot be to pleasant for the world’s greatest golfer. According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, Tiger and Elin are undergoing “intense marriage counseling” while also figuring out exactly what Elin is going to get out of this whole mess.
The Sun-Times posits that Elin is receiving a “hefty seven-figure amount” to “stick with her husband”. Their prenup is also apparently being re-written to account for the fact that Elin will now forever be known as the wife that Tiger ran around on.
And finally, fellow professional golfer Jesper Parnevik had the most candid and intriguing comments about this entire situation yesterday when he said the following:
“Maybe not just do it, like Nike says…I would be especially sad about it since I’m kind of — I feel really sorry for Elin — since me and my wife were at fault for hooking her up with him. We probably thought he was a better guy than he is. I would probably need to apologize to her and hope she uses a driver next time instead of the 3-iron…It’s a private thing of course. But when you are the guy he is, the world’s best athlete, you should think more before you do stuff.”
If you need the quick backstory: Jesper and his wife set Elin up with Tiger when she was working for them as a nanny. They remain good friends today, obviously.
And this probably means that Jesper would appreciate the picture below, which was emailed to me by numerous people yesterday. My apologies to whoever created the pic. I can’t link out to you because I don’t know the source. But nice work.
