Jason Witten Gets 100 Yards

Email Post Email Post

Update: Cowboys TE Jason Witten had 6 catches for 117 yards on 7 targets.

Fantasy Impact: Witten was really disappointing for what people expected from him this year, but that can at least partly be contributed to by the emergence of Miles Austin. Witten was still a very good TE, and will once again one of the first TEs off the board.

Marion Barber Solid

Email Post Email Post

Update: Cowboys RB Marion Barber had 63 yards and a score on 17 carries and 4 catches for 30 yards on 5 targets.

Fantasy Impact: Barber did not quite live up to his ADP this year, but he was still good. Barber should be a good RB2 next year.

Tony Romo Has Good Game

Email Post Email Post

Update: Cowboys QB Tony Romo had 286 yards, a score, and a pick in 25/38 throwing.

Fantasy Impact: Romo ends the fantasy about where he is every year, not an elite option, but a good one. There is no reason to expect he would be any different next year.

Current NFL Playoff Picture and Week 17 AFC and NFC Playoff Scenarios

Email Post Email Post
nfl-playoff-picture-scenarios

Heading into Week 16, the AFC playoff picture was ridiculously convoluted, with nearly the entire conference having a shot at making the second season. After Week 16, the picture is a little bit more clear, but there remains a large number of teams with a shot depending on how Week 17 shakes out.

In stark contrast, the NFC playoff picture is set in terms of teams, but the seeding possibilities are varied.

Let’s take a look at the current playoff picture, who controls their own destiny, and what the Week 17 scenarios are that will get each team that is still alive into the playoffs.

Monday Night Football Preview

Minnesota Vikings (11-3) at Chicago Bears (5-9)

  • Vikings-Bears Date: Monday, December 28
  • Vikings-Bears Kickoff Time: 8:30
  • Vikings-Bears TV Network: ESPN
  • Vikings-Bears Announcers: Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, and Jon Gruden
  • Vikings-Bears Point Spread: Vikings -7
  • Vikings-Bears Over-Under Odds: 41
  • Vikings-Bears Spread Pick: Boy, this is a tough one. The Vikings are clearly the superior team based on their body of work this season, but the truth is that these two teams may actually be playing the worst football in the NFL over the last two weeks. That said, I don’t see the Bears winning this game, but I do think that they will play hard despite their season being over. It is one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL, the Bears are at home, and it will no doubt be frigid. Brett Favre is not the cold weather QB that he once was. Vikings win, but Bears cover. Vikings-Bears free pick: Bears +7

Vikings-Bears Analysis

Much has been made about Jay Cutler’s abundant failure as Chicago’s starting quarterback this year.

Detroit Pistons Weekly Watch: Injuries Catching Up, But Reinforcements Coming

Email Post Email Post

The Pistons’ woes have continued over the last week.  They lost to the Lakers at the Palace 93-81, to the Bobcats on the road at Charlotte 88-76, and to the Raptors at the Palace 94-64.  In each of the games, the Pistons had scored a previous season low, but the point total in the third loss tied a franchise low.  Since scrapping to come to within one game of .500 at 11-12 two weeks ago, the Pistons have gone on a 6 game losing streak to drop to 11-18.

Though Coach Kuester refuses to use injuries as a crutch, it simply boils down to the Pistons missing their best players in Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton, and Ben Gordon.  These three make plays and account for over 50 points among themselves.  The Pistons injured players have lost 67 games so far this year, more than what they’ve had in any of the last four seasons.

Jerome Harrison A Beast Again

Email Post Email Post

Update: Browns RB Jerome Harrison had 39 carries for 148 yards and a score and lost a fumble.

Fantasy Impact: Harrison has been great the past 2 weeks and had a few other good games earlier this year, but with Mike Holmgren taking over the team for next year, there are only a few definites on this team next year. Jerome Harrison is not one of them.

Cedric Benson Has Another Workman Day

Email Post Email Post

Update: Bengals RB Cedric Benson had 29 carries for 133 yards against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Impact: Benson has essentially had this kind of game every week this year and often added a touchdown. Expect him to be a top RB taken next year.

Carson Average

Email Post Email Post

Update: Bengals QB Carson Palmer threw 17/25 for 139 yards, 2 scores, and a pick.

Fantasy Impact: Palmer has not been what he once was in fantasy since his numerous injuries and the change of philosophy in Cincinnati to a run-first team. Palmer is likely an 8-12 range fantasy QB next year.

Jonathan Stewart Has Monster Game

Email Post Email Post

Update: Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart had 28 carries for 206 yards and a score and 2 catches for 16 yards on 2 targets.

Fantasy Impact: Stewart has been off and on this year, but has really shown that he can run when given the opportunity. Expect him to be a god flex play and reasonable RB2 next year.

Matt Moore Tosses Another 3

Email Post Email Post

Update: Panthers QB Matt Moore threw 15/20 for 171 yards and 3 scores and no turnovers against the Giants.

Fantasy Impact: Moore has been a good replacement for Jake Delhomme and had actually had some fantasy value the past few weeks. It will have to be seen what the Panthers do for the QB position next year, but keep Moore in mind as a Jason Campbell-, Alex Smith-, Vince Young-type player.

Todd Heap Gets 2 More Scores

Email Post Email Post

Update: Ravens TE Todd Heap had 2 catches for 37 yards and 2 scores on 3 targets.

Fantasy Impact: Heap has not been a great fantasy TE this year, but has been a reasonable replacement with studs like Owen Daniels and Chris Cooley going down. He will likely not be drafted very highly if at all next year.

Rice Continues to Pound the Rock

Email Post Email Post

Update: Ravens RB Ray Rice had 30 carries for 141 yards and added 14 yards on a catch with 2 targets.

Fantasy Impact: Rice has been great this year and is almost for sure a top 10 pick this year.

Joe Flacco OK

Email Post Email Post

Update: Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw 13/25 for 166 yards, 2 scores, a pick, and lost a fumble.

Fantasy Impact: Flacco definitely cooled down after his hot start this year, and should be around then 8-12 QB range in the draft next year.
