Byrd’s Rookie Season Over

Email Post Email Post

Update: BuffaloBills.com reports that Rookie Safety Jairus Byrd is out for the season. Byrd who had 9 interceptions so far in the season has played through a nagging groin injury for multiple games but has been moved to the Injured Reserve.

Fantasy Impact: The Bills defense has been playing better than the teams record shows and it will be up to another safety to step up and make the big plays Jairus could.

Chargers Replace Center

Email Post Email Post

Update: The San Diego Chargers will be using another Center against Tennessee on Christmas, Eric Ghiaciuc will replace Scott Mruczkowski who had been filling in for 13 straight weeks in place of usual starter Nick Hardwick.

Fantasy Impact: Eric brings NFL experience, having starting in 42 of 48 games played and should provide good blocking until Hardwick can return, which is looking to be sooner rather than later.

Roy Williams Is a Royal Headache

Email Post Email Post

Update: Cowboys WR Roy Williams is coming off a 1-catch, 14-yard performance in week 15 vs. the Saints.  It marked the 4th time this season he has made no more than 1 reception in a game.

Fantasy Impact: Williams is giving owners fits this season.  It looked like he was getting on the same page with QB Tony Romo prior to last Saturday's game.  But the guy is simply no longer a reliable option.  If you have continued to insert Williams in your lineup to this point, you deserve a medal for patience.  Unfortunately, that is probably the only medal you will be getting.  Do not start Williams as anything more than a #4 WR this Sunday vs. the Redskins.

Garcon Misses Practice Again

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the team website, Colts WR Pierre Garcon missed practice for the 2nd straight day due to a hand injury he suffered last Thursday night against the Jaguars. He is listed as questionable for Sunday vs. the Jets.

Fantasy Impact: Garcon has had a fantastic rookie season filling in for injured WR Anthony Gonzalez as the Colts #2 WR.  If he is unable to play, fellow rookie WR Austin Collie will take his place.  The Jets allow only 159 yards passing per game — fewest in the NFL — so this Sunday presents a tough challenge for any Colts receiver.  Jets CB Darrelle Revisis has become arguably the best cover corner in the NFL and will be tasked to take out Colts WR Reggie Wayne.  Therefore, Manning will look to find TE Dallas Clark and his #2 WR more frequently.  If Garcon is healthy enough to play, consider him a high-end #3 option and expect him to get more targets than usual from Manning.

Bush Bothered by Hamstring

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to CBSSports.com, New Orleans Saints RB was limited in practice Thursday for the 2nd day in a row. Bush tweaked his hamstring in last Sunday's game against Dallas but expects to be OK in week 16 against Tampa Bay. "I'm good," Bush said. "It's not even an injury anymore… It was just a cramp."

Fantasy Impact: With the Saints no longer pursuing perfection, coach Sean Payton can now afford to rest his starters for the playoffs if he so chooses  It is unclear how he plans to juggle the playing time of RBs Bush, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell in weeks 16 and 17. If Bush's hamstring is more than just a cramp, Thomas will become more valuable as a rusher and receiver.  Mike Bell is the short-yardage, bruiser so he will continue to get the goal-line carries.  Assuming each plays Sunday vs. Tampa Bay, consider Thomas a high-end #2, Bush a low #2 and Bell a high #3 option.

Addai Skips Practice Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: According to the team website, Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai missed practice Thursday due to personal reasons.  He is listed as questionable for Sunday, but considering he has practiced in full every other day this week, Addai should be good to go against the Jets.

Fantasy Impact: Week 16 does not present a good matchup for Addai.  Statistically, the Jets have the NFL's top defense having given up the fewest yards and points.  If Colts the were not undefeated and pursuing history, it would be advisable to bench Addai.  Instead, think of him as a low-end #2 to be used with caution.

Nicks Limited Again Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSSports.com reports that NY Giants WR Hakeem Nicks was limited in practice for a 2nd straight session Thursday as the Giants prepare for the Panthers in week 16.  Nicks was injured on Monday night against the Redskins when he tweaked his hamstring.

Fantasy Impact: Nicks caught 2 balls for 66 yards, but left Monday's game late in the 2nd quarter and did not return.  He and WR Mario Manningham have been competing for the Giants #2 WR all season, and it appeared that Nicks had supplanted Manningham before this setback.  Manningham took advantage of Nick's absence in the 2nd half Monday catching a 25-yard TD pass from Eli Manning.  Monitor this situation Friday and Saturday.  If Nicks is still bothered by the hamstring, consider Manningham the better option.  If Nicks recovers and is active, he is a slightly better option. Both are nothing more than mid-low end #3 fantasy WRs against the Panthers.

Brohm Expected to Start for Bills

Email Post Email Post

Update: The Buffalo News reports that former Louisville standout Brian Brohm will start at quarterback for the Bills Sunday against the Falcons.  QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards both injured their ankles last Sunday against the Patriots and neither is likely to play again this season.

Fantasy Impact: Hopefully, nobody has used or plans on using a Bills QB this weekend.  For Bills WRs Terrell Owens or Lee Evans, a change at QB should not only help matters as Fitzpatrick and Edwards have been awful at getting the ball to their talented receiving core all season.  Any defensive unit playing the Bills should be a great option at this point.  Consider the Falcons DST a must-start this Sunday.

Turner Out Again Thursday

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSSports.com reports that Falcons RB Michael Turner (high ankle sprain) sat out of practice again on Thursday.  Turner re-injured his right ankle early in the first quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Jets and did not return.

Fantasy Impact:  Falcons RBs Jason Snelling and Jerious Norwood are good backups, but neither possess Turner's big-play ability and goal-line prowess.  "The Burner" is questionable for Sunday vs. the Bills and it seems unlikely that he will play.  Assuming Turner can't go, Snelling is the better option and is a mid #2 option against a porous Bills run defense.

D. Williams Misses Practice Again

Email Post Email Post

Update: CBSSports.com reports that Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams missed practice again Thursday with an ankle injury he suffered Sunday night against the Vikings.  Jonathan Stewart, who has been bothered by an achilles injury for several weeks, practiced in full Thursday after sitting out Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: DeAngelo is questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Giants.  He missed week 13 vs. the Bucs with a similar ankle injury.  The Panthers might feel inclined to go on the safe side and rest him considering they are out of playoff contention.  However, Williams will probably want to play regardless of how he bad he feels seeing that his backup, Stewart, has filled in great when needed (weeks 13 and 15) and could be considered a threat to take Williams' job if the trend continues.

Colts Place Gonzalez on IR

Email Post Email Post

Update: WLJA News in Indianapolis reports that the Colts have placed WR Anthony Gonzalez on injured reserve officially ending his season.  Gonzalez sprained ligaments in his knee in week 1 and has not played in one game since.

Fantasy Impact: 2009 was a season to forget for Gonzalez and fantasy owners.  Hopefully, his knee injuries are not career threatening and he will be able to return to the solid form he displayed in his 2008 rookie season.

Westbrook Looks ‘Fresh’ at Practice

Email Post Email Post

Update: Adam Caplan wrote on Twitter that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook "looked very, very good," even "fresh" at practice Thursday.  Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Westbrook did "perfect" on his testing and is "ready to roll" vs. the Broncos this Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: Westbrook has been cleared to play Sunday vs. the Broncos after missing five straight games with a severe concussion.  Be careful not to rely on him too heavily as he will split carries with both RB LeSean McCoy and FB Leonard Weaver.  The Broncos defense was embarrassed last Sunday allowing 241 yards rushing and 7.1 yards per carry to the lowly Raiders.  So even in limited action, Westbrook could be considered a solid #2 option.
