Three Tennessee Football Players Arrested for Armed Robbery

Email Post Email Post

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve seen a while.

Three University of Tennessee football players, including much-heralded freshmen Nu’Keese Richardson and Janzen Jackson, were arrested this morning and charged with armed robbery. (Thanks for SEC Rivals for the tip.)

I don’t have confirmation on this yet, but charges of extreme idiocy and operating a human body without a brain could also be forthcoming.

Bears-49ers Thursday Night Football Fantasy Start/Sit Analysis

Email Post Email Post

Thursday night football is here, which means that our usual lineup setting routines are now thrown out of whack.

Though the Thursday night game won’t affect every team every week, most of us, across all of the leagues that we play in, will most likely have a key decision or two that will have to be made three days earlier than before.

This is annoying and can lead to the unnecessary benching and/or starting of players. The trade-off, however, is an extra night with an NFL game.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Because I know that many of you will be late to the party in realizing that you have to decide on your Bears and 49ers players by tonight, I have taken the liberty of doing the dirty work for you. Here is your 49ers-Bears fantasy analysis, complete with start/sit recommendations so you don’t even have to think about it.

Cavs Gets Redemptive Win Over Magic

Email Post Email Post

With the city of Cleveland’s pride on the line, and with last season’s heartbreaking Eastern Conference Championship loss still fresh in the mind of LeBron James and Cleveland fans, the Cavaliers got a redeeming 102-93 win over the Orlando Magic, last night.

Mo Williams, who previously struggled in the Conference Finals, found his shots this time around. He scored 22 points (9-9) in the first half of the game, and added 4 assists. Williams finished the game with 28 total points, 6 assists, and 1 rebound. Also, an aggressive LeBron James scored a season high 36 points, with 4 assists, and 8 rebounds.

The Answer for Cleveland?

Email Post Email Post

There were swirls of trades and signings this off-season, and the swirling has continued into the regular season,  and you know what? Not much has seemed to changed as we head into the early weeks of the NBA season.

There has been speculation on:

  • Stephen Jackson leaving
  • Carlos Boozer wanting out
  • Monta Ellis considering leaving
  • Delonte being on the block

And a few others.

But one rumor that seems t0 be picking up a lot of momentum seems to be a much tastier thought.

Allen Iverson to Cleveland.

Vernon Davis Says Things About Bears’ D That He Would Not Have Said in 1985

Email Post Email Post

Vernon Davis’ recent comments about the Chicago Bears defense must have been interesting for his head coach to listen to.

In case you haven’t heard, the 49ers’ emerging star at the tight end position basically said that the Bears’ defensive front was filled with a bunch of chumps who couldn’t stop the offensive juggernaut that is the San Francisco 49ers.

And you may recall that his coach, one Mike Singletary, at one time led that very same Chicago Bears defense to one of the greatest single-season defensive performances in the history of the NFL.

So what does this all mean?

Not really a whole hell of a lot to be honest with you, except that you will undoubtedly hear Bob Papa and Matt Millen talking about it Thursday night before kickoff. So you might as well be familiar with the comments they are referring to.

Sammy Sosa Addresses Skin Lightening Speculation

Email Post Email Post

Via The Big Lead, Sammy Sosa has addressed the swirling speculation over why his skin appeared so drastically different than we remember at a recent event he attended with his wife.

Incredibly, Sosa actually specifically addresses the notion that he may have somehow wanted to look like Michael Jackson. For the record, I don’t think anyone thought Sosa wanted to look like Jackson specifically, just that he might have been dealing with a similar skin pigmentation disorder or appearance issues.

NFL Power Rankings: Week 10

Email Post Email Post

Alright. I’m tired of switching Indy and New Orleans from first to second, so until one of those teams loses, then they are going to get the tie.

And I’m sure that Jerod will put his little editor’s note in here telling me what a jack-ass I am that both of my favorite teams are # 1, even if deservedly so.

[Editor's note: You're a jackass, but not because you made obvious choices at #1. You're a jackass for leaving it as a tie and not having cojones to just pick one.]

So let me make this simple for ya J-Rod….

Your two teams, Miami (3-5) and Cleveland (1-7), have combined to win HALF as many games as just one of my teams.

How’s that crow?

[Editor's note: Why don't you ask Coach Mora, who was this week's choice for the thumbnail since he coached both the Saints and Colts. I bet he wouldn't be too excited about your tie idea. He strikes as a win-or-else type guy.

"Tie? Tie? Are you kidding me? A tie?"

Way to disappoint Coach Mora, Big MB. I think next week we're going to change the name of this post from Power Rankings to Weak Rankings...in honor of the author.

A tie. What a crock of shi--ean Payton.]

NFL Quarterback Power Rankings

Email Post Email Post
jay-cutler

No position in the NFL is more highly scrutinized, debated, and discussed than the quarterback. It’s impossible to build a consistent winner without one (and people who follow the Cleveland Browns would tell you that it’s impossible to find one period).

After this weekend’s Packers loss to the Bucs, Aaron Rodgers was a popular topic of conversation on Twitter. I made the comment that he has not shown me that he has the “it” that people always talk about when it comes to QBs. Some agreed and some disagreed, but it got me thinking about where Rodgers falls in relation to today’s crop of QBs.

Thus, I set out to rank the quarterbacks currently holding starting NFL gigs, taking into account their current age and skill level, future potential, past accomplishments, and the general confidence level I would have if that player was the QB of my team.

Hawks Pummel Kings 4-1, Offering Further Proof That They Are Contenders

It was a happy return for the Hawks captain Jonathan Toews.

Toews scored his 2nd goal of the year, his first since missing two weeks from a concussion. Goals by Toews, Brouwer, Madden, and Ebbett helped the Hawks beat the LA Kings 4-1.

The win propelled the Hawks back into 1st place in the Central Division and 3rd in the Western Conference.

Fantasy Football Week 10 Start Em, Sit Em Lineup Advice and Projections

This post is from 2009!!!

Click for the 2010 Start em Sit em picks for Week 10.

——————–

Week 9 was very interesting for me from a real and fantasy picks perspective.

I went to sleep last night thinking I’d lost by 0.5 points in one league because of Miles Austin’s one catch. But, as so often happens in leagues with IDPs, the stats had changed by Monday morning and I led by 3.5. I’m hoping this holds up once the totals become final tomorrow.

From a picks perspective, last week was unique in that I really went out on a limb picking David Garrard over Matt Schaub. Then the defense opposing Schaub (Indy) lost two key starters and I issued a change to my recommendation regarding the Texans’ QB.

And then, naturally, Schaub went out and had a pedestrian day (311 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) that did not eclipse what Garrard was able to do against Kansas City (264 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs, 29 yards rushing).

In hindsight, I should have stuck with my guns; but, the truth is that I did stick with my principles in issuing my Schaub retraction. It was the right decision. Remember, we’re trying to predict a game in which Chris Chambers can be one of the top scorers at WR during the same week he got cut by San Diego and ended up in Kansas City.

Without much rhyme or reason, all you’ve got is your principles. My principles have me above .500 and in playoff contention in all six of my leagues.

And this is what I always tell people who ask me for advice on tough questions: what are your princples? Go with them.

And if you don’t have them, get them. I’ll be happy to help if I can.

NBA Power Rankings: Week 2

Email Post Email Post

Hey knuckle-heads! Great week of ball, as we’ve had a couple of continued great starts, a few great performances, and also an upset or two. Let me remind you that there are no undefeated teams left, as each fell at least once this past week.

I certainly appreciated all of the feedback I received for my last Power Rankings, as I had both positive and negative comments.

Ready for another Power Rankings post? Ready to bash? Appreciate?

NFL Week 10 Picks, Point Spreads, TV Schedule, and Announcer Lineup

Email Post Email Post

Update: The NFL Week 17 TV schedule, point spreads, and picks post is up.

——————–

Colts-Patriots.

What else do you need to know about Week 10 of the NFL season?

Yes, I know that there are important divisional matchups like Cincinnati against Pittsburgh and…and…Chiefs-Raiders? Okay, so there aren’t that many compelling games on this week’s schedule. But I’m fine with that.

Week 10 is all about the best rivalry in the NFL: Colts v Patriots, Peyton v Brady, which Myles and I will definitely be breaking this one down later in the week.

Until then, you can see my pick for that game and my picks for all of the other Week 10 games, along with the announcer lineup, in this week’s NFL picks, spreads, and TV schedule post.
