Alright. I’m tired of switching Indy and New Orleans from first to second, so until one of those teams loses, then they are going to get the tie.
And I’m sure that Jerod will put his little editor’s note in here telling me what a jack-ass I am that both of my favorite teams are # 1, even if deservedly so.
[Editor's note: You're a jackass, but not because you made obvious choices at #1. You're a jackass for leaving it as a tie and not having cojones to just pick one.]
So let me make this simple for ya J-Rod….
Your two teams, Miami (3-5) and Cleveland (1-7), have combined to win HALF as many games as just one of my teams.
How’s that crow?
[Editor's note: Why don't you ask Coach Mora, who was this week's choice for the thumbnail since he coached both the Saints and Colts. I bet he wouldn't be too excited about your tie idea. He strikes as a win-or-else type guy.
"Tie? Tie? Are you kidding me? A tie?"
Way to disappoint Coach Mora, Big MB. I think next week we're going to change the name of this post from Power Rankings to Weak Rankings...in honor of the author.
A tie. What a crock of shi--ean Payton.]
T-1. New Orleans Saints (Last 1 [0])
Just when you think they may be down and out for the count…they just keep coming back and winning football games.
I don’t know what else to say about this team. I guess they are so talented that they are spotting teams 14 points just to make things interesting.
[Editor's note: And I guess you are so pathetic that you are proclaiming ties at the top of the rankings as opposed to being a man and making a choice. Jackass.]
T-1. Indianapolis Colts (Last 2 [+1])
Another close call for Manning and Company. That’s two weeks in a row that Indy has not looked like their normal selves on the offensive side of the ball. Yes, Dallas Clark had an incredible 14 receptions in the game, but once again Indy’s defense had to step up to win this one, despite all of the injuries to their starters.
Better shape up Indy. Tom Brady is coming to town next week.
[Editor's note: It's going to be fun seeing all of the fair-weather Colts fans rocked by a home loss next week. At least then you won't have to remove your testicles (also known as declaring a tie at #1) to do these rankings.]
3. Minnesota Vikings (Last 3 [0])
The Vikings were on bye, and the only other two teams worth mentioning in the NFC North had embarrassing defeats that booted them from this Power Rankings. No worries this week either as they have their second bye week in a row. (They play Detroit).
4. New England Patriots (Last 4 [0])
For any one not residing in the greater Boston area, these guys are like that door-to-door salesmen that just won’t go away. Eventually you buy what they are selling just so they’ll go away…but the Pats aren’t going anywhere.
In fact they are headed in a totally different, and upward, direction.
The Pats put a halt to Miami’s Wildcat offense last weekend and set themselves up with a two game lead in the AFC East. They have a big game next week with the Colts, which could very well play a large role in home-field advantage.
[Editor's note: It will also make you cry in your Ovaltine, chump.]
5. Cincinnati Bengals (Last 6 [+1])
To be honest, aside from Ochocinco’s attempted bribe of the replay official on his challenged catch, there were no surprises for me in this game. I said that Cincy would dominate Baltimore, and I said that Cedrick Benson would end up with 100+ yards.
And, I was right. (At least Ohio has one football team to root for this season.)
Although Pittsburgh also won this week, and has the same record as the Bengals, Cincy holds a slight advantage over the Steelers due to their victory over them earlier in the season. But here’s the kicker folks: they are headed to Pittsburgh this week, in what could be a winner-take-all game in the AFC North.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (Last 7 [+1])
The Steelers continued to add to what some are already calling the demise of the Denver Broncos; but more importantly, they stayed on pace with the aforementioned Bengals.
The Steelers seem to be clicking on all cylendars in all parts of their game, and the big test of the season for them comes this week as those Bengals, who hold a slight edge in their division race, come to town.
7. Dallas Cowboys (Last 9 [+2])
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Cowboys are starting to impress me. Don’t get excited, and definitely don’t crown them just yet, but they do now control their own destiny in the NFC East.
I still stand by my statements though: Tony Romo is still this team’s quarterback, Wade Phillips its coach, and December is only 3 weeks away; that month is the true test.
8. Atlanta Falcons (Last 11 [-3])
Not that a victory over Washington is impressive, but it was very important for Atlanta to get off their two game slide, the first that they have had since Mike Smith and Matt Ryan came to town. But don’t forget, they are in the same division as the Saints, so it’s starting to look like the only way the Falcons will find themselves in the playoffs this year is in the Wildcard. Better not slip.
[Editor's note: Like Myles did with this week's rankings.]
9. Denver Broncos (Last 5 [-4])
Is the bottom falling out? Were we all right when we said that this team was a fluke a few weeks back? I’m still sticking with no.
Yes, the team is slumping, and what is even more scary is that the Chargers are starting to come on. Denver must regain the confidence and momentum they had just two weeks ago, and it must start at Fed Ex Field vs. the Redskins this week. Seemingly, this should not be too tall of an order.
[Editor's note: Think of it like trying to produce better Power Rankings than Myles, the Jim Zorn of Power Rankings.]
10. Philadelphia Eagles (Last 8 [-2])
After a disappointing loss at home to Dallas, the Eagles must regroup and keep their eyes on the prize. They are only one game back of the Cowboys in the NFC East and, equally important, are in the thick of the Wild Card race coming down the stretch.
They do, unfortunately for them, head to San Diego to face the red-hot Chargers this week.
11. Houston Texans (Last 10 [-1])
After hitting a 56-yard field goal earlier in the game, it seemed as though it would be a chip shot for the Texans to tie the vaunted Colts and send the game into overtime (where the Chargers proved in the playoffs last year that anything can happen). But the Texans missed.
However, despite Houston’s 100+ yards in penalties, and the 0-13 start, they made a game of it scoring the next 17 points. It’s just so damned hard to stop Peyton, no matter how bad the Colts look. The Texans may not have a shot at the division now as Indy’s magic # is already only at 4, but they can still definitely compete for one of the two Wild Card slots.
12. Arizona Cardinals (Last Not Ranked)
I still can’t figure this team out. One week they get blown out and the next the win by 20. One thing is for sure, Kurt Warner has plenty of fuel left in the tank.
They are in the NFC West, which is possibly the weakest division in football, and they already have a two game lead on the 49ers. I’m just curious if they can keep it together.
13. San Diego Chargers (Last Not Ranked)
Well, well, well. This story is all to familiar. Denver begins to slide and guess who is there to slip right in…
The Bolts, that’s who.
San Diego now finds themselves only one game behind the reeling Broncos of Denver. On top of that, they’ve decided to start playing good, consistent football; just ask the Giants, who saw their lead implode with only seconds remaining in the game this past weekend.
I shouldn’t have gone to sleep on the Chargers, and neither should you. Watch out now…here they come.
14 & 15. Team “Bye Week”
Ok, before you go talking all crazy at me, let me explain.
First of all, the bye week had a win this week against the Cleveland Browns, (who hasn’t!?), unlike Green Bay’s embarrassment in Tampa Bay
After their performances this past week and in weeks past, I can’t imagine putting the Giants, the Packers, the Bears, or the Ravens up here. Honestly, I’m tired of the “in and out” all of these teams are playing. So until they can show me something, I will not give them their respect, because in my world, they don’t deserve it.
‘Nuff Said.
[Editor's note: Yet another cop-out. Unbelievable. A tie at #1 and then no willingness to make the touch choices at #14 or #15. If we were going to have someone without balls do this week's Power Rankings, I would have asked your fiancee. At least she knows something about football...]
