Hawks’ Streak is Snapped In Anaheim

by Tyler Juranovich @ 2009-11-28 2 Comments Email Post

Even good things must come to an end. That’s exactly what happened Thursday afternoon. The Hawks lost to the Anaheim Ducks 0-3. A loss that ended an eight game win streak,  a chance for a road trip sweep, and that further delayed coach Joel Quennville’s 500th career win.

Everything that the Hawks did well in the eight games before this one just weren’t there. Their power play kill unit, one that was ranked #1 before the game, gave up three power play goals. The offense lost some momentum after failing to score on the game’s first power play.

“You score right away on the road and you’re in good shape there,” coach Quenneville said. “Instead, we lose a little momentum off it and they get their two power plays and get some life.”

The Hawks just might have gotten a little too cocky, and maybe thought that they would come into Anaheim and win easily. That wasn’t the case. Even though they lost, this loss could be a humbling experience for the Hawks. It can show them that they aren’t invincible, and that they can’t always expect to dominate. The team has hopefully come back down to Earth and realize that no matter how big you win streak is or how good you are, any team can beat you at anytime.

“I don’t think we were prepared for the start of that game,” Brian Campbell said after it was over. “Certainly disappointing on our end. You can’t just show up and expect to win.

The Hawks get another chance at helping Quennville’s 500th career win Saturday at 9:30pm cst against the L.A. Kings.

While it was not a good result in Anaheim you have to admit that this west coast trip is better than those of years past.

It was an amazing West Coast trip. Going 4-1-1 on the road is just pure dominance. The Hawks are looking great and with the salary cap issue the future is now.
