——————–

I realized this weekend why I love fantasy sports so much.

As many of you know, I am both an Indiana basketball fan and a Cleveland Browns fan. Thus, my Sunday began with watching the Hoosiers at 9:30 am as they desperately tried to salvage one win in the Puerto Rico Shootout and was then followed by heading to the Browns Backers meetup to watch Cleveland battle the Detroit Lions.

To say that I was desperate to see one of my teams capture a victory would be an understatement.

Unfortunately, both the Hoosiers and Browns did on Sunday what they have proven oh-so-good at doing over the last two years: snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Indiana was done in by a banked-in three pointer with five seconds left after relinquishing a five point lead with five minutes to go. The Browns were done in by a pass interference call on Matt Stafford’s desperation Hail Mary pass, which was followed by an un-timed down that resulted in a touchdown.

One Sunday, two excruciating losses for my two beloved teams. And that is why I love fantasy sports. Without my fantasy football teams to track, what reason would I have as a sports fan not to run out and jump off of my balcony right now?

And on that positive not, let’s look ahead to Week 12 of the fantasy football season!

Before we look forward we’ll take a quick glance back at Week 11 to see how my picks turned out:

  • Start ‘em hits: Ricky Williams, MIA; Greg Jennings, GB
  • Start ‘em misses: Philip Rivers, SD; Kellen Winslow, TB; Green Bay D/ST
  • Sit ‘em hits: Todd Heap, BAL
  • Sit ‘em misses: Matt Ryan, ATL; Jamaal Charles, KC; Bernard Berrian, MIN; Miami Dolphins D/ST

For the record, I’m not too upset about the Berrian sit call. I only classified him as a miss because he caught a TD, but he only had two catches for 11 yards. Still, as well know, TDs are what it’s all about.

And while I’m disappointed that I led you astray regarding Matt Ryan and Jamaal Charles, those are both calls I’d make again.

In the case of Charles, it does show you why siding with RBs for flex spots can oftentimes work out well for you. He only had 66 yards on offense (rushing/passing combined) but scored two TDs when you include his KO return. It just goes to show you that touches are important and can lead to production even when a matchup might not dictate it.

Week 12 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Lineup Advice

Week 12 Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Picks: Quarterbacks

fantasy football week 12 start em sit em lineup advice, projections - carson palmer, tony romo, justin forsett, kevin smith, derrick masonStart ‘Em: Carson Palmer, CIN (vs Cleveland)

The Browns made me suffer through this afternoon’s debacle, so I’m kicking this week’s start em, sit em post off by throwing them under the bus. (Wait…yep…Matthew Stafford just threw another touchdown.)

Unreal.

Carson Palmer has not been incredible this season. Take away his five TD game against the Bears and, coming into Week 11, he had thrown only nine TDs against seven INTs. Solid, but nothing great.

Here’s the thing though: that five TD performance he had against the Bears could very well be what we see against the Browns. If Matthew Stafford and the Lions can throw five TD passes against Cleveland, how many will an established QB throw? Even if it’s not five, he’ll throw two or three.

Palmer threw two TDs when the Bengals and Browns met up in Cleveland earlier this year. This game is in Cincy, so I’m projecting three…and, based on what I saw today, probably being conservative in doing so.

Carson Palmer Week 12 fantasy projection: 315 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT

Other start ‘em QBs in Week 12:

  • Aaron Rodgers at Detroit is a no-brainer, as is Philip Rivers against KC and Brett Favre at home against Chicago.
  • Matt Ryan rebounded nicely in Week 11 and should have a solid day against Tampa Bay.

fantasy football week 12 start em sit em lineup advice, projections - carson palmer, tony romo, justin forsett, kevin smith, derrick masonSit ‘em: Tony Romo, DAL (vs Oakland)

Tony Romo leads the Cowboys against Oakland on Thanksgiving Day, and though you may want to start him so that your Thanksgiving football viewing is more exciting, you would be better off going with your alternate choice.

As I write this, the Bengals are leading the Raiders 17-10 but Carson Palmer has not thrown a TD pass. (Granted, he has two rushing TDs, but you don’t exactly bank on your QB getting you rushing TDs.) If you study the statistics, you would not be surprised by the success that Oakland’s pass D is having. Coming into Week 11 they had given up only eight TD passes on the season.

Considering the struggles that Romo and the Cowboys’ passing game have been having recently, I think this is a matchup to stay away from.

Against the Eagles, Packers, and Redskins the last three weeks Romo has thrown one TD in each game. He hasn’t been terrible, but 10-12 point days from your starting QB aren’t always enough to bring victory. If you have a solid alternative option with a more favorable matchup (example: Carson Palmer), use it.

Romo is nothing more than a middle-of-the-road fantasy QB for Week 12.

Tony Romo Week 12 fantasy projection: 240 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

Other sit ‘em QBs for Week 12:

  • Washington continues to shut down opposing passing games, meaning Donovan McNabb should probably be shut down for your team this week.
  • I know that Matthew Stafford was awesome against Cleveland…but it was against Cleveland. Green Bay is a little better against the pass and playing decent football right now. Don’t let the five TDs seduce you into playing Stafford over another more solid option.

Week 12 Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Picks: Running Backs

Start ‘Em: Justin Forsett, SEA (at St. Louis)

Last week I said that I wanted to see what Forsett would do in Week 11 against a tough run defense (MIN) before I totally bought into his fantasy studliness. Obviously from where he is listed this week, you know that I’m buying in. This is especially so in PPR leagues.

As expected, Forsett did nothing on the ground in Week 11. He ran nine times for nine yards. Whoop-di-do. However, Forsett did grab a one-yard garbage TD late in the game and also brought the value was expected of rhim in the passing game, where he caught eight balls for 80 yards. So overall Forsett had 89 total yards and a TD. Against a defense like Minnesota, that’s not too shabby.

In Week 12, Forsett gets to play the St. Louis Rams. While the Rams have been playing better defensively, there will be much more room for Forsett to run around than there was this past week.

Coming into Week 11, the Rams were 28th in the league in total defense and were giving up 27.7 points per game. Arizona was well on its way to a great offensive day against the Rams in Week 11 before Kurt Warner got hurt and their offensive attack stalled. Still, the Cardinals ran for 183 yards and scored a TD on the ground.

Forsett will be able to take advantage and should be in your lineup. (The only caveat here is the health of Julius Jones. But even if Jones is healthy enough to play, he is always terrible on the road and Forsett will still have value as a receiver.)

Justin Forsett Week 12 fantasy projections: 80 yards rushing, 7 rec, 65 yards receiving, 1 TD

Update 11/25: Upon further review, I am going to knock down Forsett’s rushing yardage projection just a notch. The Seahawks are only averaging about 84 yards rushing as a team, so I doubt Forsett reaches that by himself, especially with Jim Mora’s pronouncement that Julius Jones is the starter upon his return to the lineup. There is nothing definitive yet on Jones, but I still like Forsett even if Jones does play.

Other start ‘em RBs for Week 12:

  • Even if you doubt that Ricky Williams can keep up his crazy production from the past couple of weeks, this is not the week to act on those doubts. The Dolphins play the Bills, who have one of the worst run D’s in the league.
  • Beanie Wells continues to run well and get into the end zone. He needs to be in your lineup.
  • Look, I’m as wary of playing New England running backs as anyone, but Maroney scored a TD for the fifth straight week in Week 11, actually punching it in twice against the Jets. That kind of consistent production cannot be ignored.
  • Jason Snelling and his two Week 11 TDs need to be in your Week 12 lineup if Michael Turner is out. Whoever is running the ball for the Falcons is a solid start.

Sit ‘em: Kevin Smith, DET (vs Green Bay)

As I mentioned in regards to Matthew Stafford above, don’t be fooled by Kevin Smith’s Week 11 numbers. Yes, he totaled 149 yards rushing and receiving and scored a TD, but he also did it against Cleveland’s terrible D.

Coming into Week 11, Smith had run for 167 yards in his four previous games and had not scored. He also had only nine receptions for 68 yards, so the receiving yards in Week 11 were clearly an anomaly.

In Week 12, Smith goes up against a Packers D that was 4th in the league against the run coming into Week 11. The 49ers, led by the mighty Frank Gore, ran for only 69 yards against Green Bay, mainly because the Packers got up early and the 49ers had to throw to catch up.

Detroit will no doubt find themselves in a similar situation, which will likely limit Smith’s value. I just don’t see him being anywhere near as big a part of the passing game in Week 12 as he was in Week 11.

Kevin Smith Week 12 fantasy projection: 45 yards rushing, 3 rec, 25 yards receiving, 0 TDs

Other sit ‘em RBs for Week 12:

  • Knowshon Moreno had a nice average in Week 11, but not many Broncos are going to be seeing the end zone until Kyle Orton gets healthy. And even once Orton is healthy, this is an offense that may struggle to find a rhythm for the rest of the year.
  • For the record, I’d really think twice (maybe three times) before I remove either of the guys I’m about to discuss…but if you are a believer in matchups, here are two guys with bad ones. If you are in a non-PPR league, Ray Rice might be a guy you think about sitting this week. He’ll still probably get 100-125 total yards, but Pittsburgh has given up only two rushing TDs all season. The same goes for Matt Forte, who is a better receiver than runner, and how faces a team (MIN) that has given up only two rushing TDs all year.
  • Cadillac Williams continues to struggle to get anything going on the ground for an offense that just is not very good and that is trying to work in a rookie QB.

Week 12 Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Picks: Wide Receivers

Start ‘Em: Derrick Mason, BAL (vs Pittsburgh)

The Steelers are struggling, having dropped two straight games, but they remain stout against the run. Against the pass, however, the Steelers have proven to be suspect. In Week 11, the Chiefs threw for 248 yards and two TDs. Heading into Week 11, the Steelers were only 12th in the league against the pass (208.7 yards per game) had been giving up more than one passing TD per game.

Oh, and they are still without Troy Polamalu.

Enter Derrick Mason, his 142 receiving yards in Week 11, and a desperate Baltimore Ravens team. I think the Ravens will understand that they have to throw the ball to win and will try to do just that. Derrick Mason should be beneficiary of a lot of targets and he is still good enough to take advantage.

Derrick Mason Week 12 fantasy projection: 7 rec, 110 yards, 1 TD

Other start ‘em WRs for Week 12:

  • Mike Sims-Walker scored another TD this week despite only having three catches. In Week 12 he faces San Francisco’s very suspect pass defense. MSW could put up numbers similar to what Greg Jennings did in Week 11 (100+ yards, TD).
  • Jerricho Cotchery continues to be a consistent source of catches, yards, and TDs. He’s a very solid #2 WR and is a solid play even against a very good pass D like Carolina.
  • I sing his praises week after week and I’ll do it again here. Nate Burleson is not a TD machine by any means (he has only three on the season) but he does consistently catch 6-8 balls and get 70-80 yards. If you’re in a PPR league, this is a guy who always gives you positive production.

Sit ‘em: Braylon Edwards, NYJ (vs Carolina)

There are so many reasons to sit Braylon Edwards…let’s count ‘em out.

  1. He sucks, as his one-catch, 10 yard performance in Week 11 showed.
  2. The Jets play Carolina, which has a very solid pass defense.
  3. The Jets are quarterbacked by a rookie, which can lead to volatility in numbers.
  4. The Jets aren’t playing on Monday night, which is the only time that Braylon ever steps it up and plays well.

I’m sure I could find some more if I really thought about it, but do you really need any more? Braylon is the third option in a Jets’ passing game that isn’t very prolific in the first place. Look elsewhere and stop hoping he turns it around. He won’t.

Braylon Edwards Week 12 fantasy projection: 3 rec, 33 yards, 0 TD

Other sit ‘em WRs for Week 12:

  • Don’t be fooled by Mohamed Massaquoi’s big Week 11. The Browns play Cincinnati’s very good pass defense in Week 12, which makes anything close to a repeat performance highly unlikely.
  • Be wary of Steve Smith in Week 12. Yes, he’s caught three TDs over the last two weeks, but he faces the Jets and Darrelle Revis in Week 12. I’d only sit him if you have a really good alternative, but just be careful.
  • It looks like Pierre Garcon has passed Austin Collie as the #3 option in the Colts passing game. Collee struggled against the Patriots and had only one catch in Week 11. He’s a Colt, so he’s always capable of a TD, but I’d only play him this week against Houston if I had no other options.

Week 12 Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Picks: Tight Ends

Start ‘Em: Zach Miller, OAK (at Dallas)

That loud cheer you heard erupt Sunday afternoon was stubborn owners of Zach Miller who were rewarded for their patience first with the benching of JaMarcus Russell and then with a TD in Week 11. This guy is one of the more talented all-around tight ends out there and is capable of so much more than what he’s been producing. With Russell now on the bench, and thr halfway competent Bruce Gradkowski in the lineup, better times should be ahead for Miller.

The Raiders face a pretty good Dallas D on Thanksgiving Day, but I still think Miller and Gradkowski can have a solid day together, even if the Raiders aren’t as effective throwing the ball down the field. I look for a repeat of Miller’s Week 11, which was pretty decent.

Zach Miller Week 12 fantasy projection: 5 rec, 65 yards, 1 TD

Other start ‘em TEs in Week 12:

  • Visanthe Shiancoe just keeps catching touchdowns. Keep starting him folks. (Same with Vernon Davis.)
  • John Carlson did not have a catch in Week 11, but I think he could reverse that trend in Week 12. He shouldn’t have to block as much and might even be able to steal a TE. An option if you’re really in need.

Sit ‘em: Jeremy Shockey, NO (vs New England)

Surprised to see a Saint in the sit ‘em category? I have to admit that I kind of am as well. But the numbers don’t lie:

  • Shockey has not caught more than three passes since Week 8.
  • He has only caught one TD since Week 1 (when he had two).
  • Robert Meachem has emerged as a very solid red zone target for Drew Brees and is stealing what might otherwise be TDs for Shockey.
  • The Patriots have a solid defense and while they won’t shut the Saints down, I think they will be able to make things difficult on Shockey.

Shockey is a Saint, so he’s always capable of having a big week if he and Brees develop a rapport and rhythm during the game. However, based on his recent numbers, I want to see it happen before I’m buying in.

Jeremy Shockey Week 12 fantasy projection: 3 rec, 21 yards, 0 TD

Other sit ‘em TEs in Week 12:

  • I’d have to have a pretty good TE to sit him, but Jason Witten is a guy that has been struggling this year and who faces a decent pass D in Oakland. Witten has only one TD on the season and the Cowboys have scored only two TDs the last two weeks.
  • Tony Scheffler had one good week this season that propped up his numbers. Don’t be fooled. Sit him.

Week 12 Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Picks: Defense / Special Teams Units

Start ‘Em: New York Jets D/ST (vs Carolina)

I was bullish on the Jets before the season started and they were very good defensively early on. Lately, however, they’ve struggled. I like them in Week 12 though because I think the Jets-Panthers game has low scoring written all over it and I think the Jets can harass Jake Delhomme into some turnovers.

We know that Carolina is going to run the ball well, but the Jets give up less than one rushing TD per game, which isn’t terrible. A lot of the defenses that might be on your waiver wire have unfavorable matchups this week, so the Jets could be a good option for you if you’re dissatisfied with your current D.

New York Jets D/ST Week 12 fantasy projection: 17 pts or less, 2+ INTs, 2 sacks

Other start ‘em D/ST units in Week 12:

  • Cincinnati is facing Cleveland, so you have to like to them. Same thing with Dallas, which is facing Oakland.
  • I also like Green Bay’s defense. I know that they have some injury concerns, but the Lions are the Lions and the Packers are adept at getting sacks and turnovers.
  • I know that the Giants D has been struggling, but they face Denver’s struggling O in Week 12. Solid start. Same with Philly, which faces Washington’s hapless offense.

Sit ‘em: New Orleans D/ST and New England D/ST (playing eachother)

I can’t wait for this game, but I wouldn’t want to own either defense in it. Remember what happened in the Colts-Patriots game? 60+ points were scored and neither defense was very valuable from a fantasy perspective. With Drew Brees facing Tom Brady, I see something similar happening on Sunday. Find alternatives if you can.

New Orleans D/ST and New England D/ST Week 12 fantasy projection: lots of points, few turnovers

Other sit ‘em D/ST units in Week 12:

  • I’d also be wary of the defense’s in the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game. I see this game being high scoring. I’d want a pretty good alternative to play in their place, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use it.

It is definitely crunch time now as we zoom towards the playoffs. That’s part of the reason why I wanted to get this post up early this week, even before the Monday night game has been played. A lot of you have big decisions before the Thursday games, and I wanted the comment section ready for your questions. Ask away.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone, and may you all get off to a good start in your Week 12 matchups while chowing down on turkey and stuffing.

  • Dan

    Jarod,

I enjoy the analysis and find much of it applies to my team. With 125 points scored this week (standard) I claimed the lead yet left 28 points on the bench: 14 for Forsett and 14 for Derrick Mason. My big stinkers who started? Roddy White and Vincent Jackson (9 points total between them). So, while I hear that Roddy White and VJax are must-starts every week…I wonder. Heck – in weirdness, Forsett and Ricky Williams each scored more than MJD!

MJD, R. Williams, Forsett, MSW, D. Mason, R. White, VJax. Pick your top 5 and I'll roll with it.

I think, at some level, who stars and who doesn't is random chance; it's not like I have some first-stringers and some fourth-stringers. And, really – I don't think I'm getting anybody from the waiver wire this week, I'm pretty happy with this lineup so long as my starting QB doesn't get injured (a not-so-small risk with Aaron Rodgers).

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Dan, there is a lot of random chance when it comes to stats on a week-by-week basis in fantasy football. It's the frustrating conundrum that every owner deals with.

Yes, on a one-week basis, Justin Forsett can score more points than Maurice Jones-Drew…but who would you rather have in your starting lineup? Who do you trust more? Until Forsett strings together seasons like what MJD has done (or there are injury issues at play), then MJD gets the nod for me. I don't expect to be right 100% of the time…but I have found that by trusting guys with track records, you end up winning more often than you lose.

As to your question, I assume that you mean just for this week. In that case, I go as follows: MJD, Ricky Williams, VJax, Forsett, Mason, MSW, R. White. You have a lot of good matchups this week. Truth be told, there's not a whole lot separating your WRs. I pick VJax first because he's facing KC and has the best quarterback.

  • Brian

    Jerod,

If you remember from last week, I was the one who thought about starting VY this week. I probably should have, but I went with Flacco. Took your advice and went with Burleson and Vernon Davis. Thanks for the advice there. Had a good overall week, but I am down 40 points with Bironas kicking tonight. Was in a pretty good spot, but two weeks against teams that had players that absolutely went off has me a game out of the playoffs. Frustrating. I was against Brees, Fitzgerald, Welker, Harvin, McCoy, B Scott, Gonzalez, Kaeding and Jacksonville this week. Going in I thought Flacco, Moss, Ward, Burleson, Peterson, Rice, Davis, Bironas, New Orleans looked much better. What can you do? Anyway, tough to still feel good about my team. But gotta give it a shot. Needed to vent….

  • Brian

……This week at QB, Flacco, Hasselbeck, or VY? Or do you have any ideas for a deep sleeper? It shouldn't be so tough to at least get double digits out of a QB. Its sickening to see what Stafford and Quinn put up this week, and then look at what my QBs got.

Gonna go Moss, Ward and Burleson and not even ask you about Maclin and Edwards (who you already covered) anymore. Peterson, Rice and Vernon Davis are locks. Kickers don't matter.

So maybe my biggest concern of the week is my defense. I've been riding New Orleans. Could pick up Atlanta, Seattle or SF for the week. Who do you like out of those defenses? I've got Kevin Smith, Jamaal Charles, Maclin, Edwards on the bench. Plus my 3 QBs. To pick up the extra D, I'm guessing the best one to drop would be Edwards. Agree?

Thanks as always. Hopefully I can turn it around this week.

  • Brian

Actually, I just realized the Jets are available in my league. Didn't think they were. So based on your post, I'm assuming you would like the Jets D this week over Atlanta (vs TB), Seattle (at STL), or SF (vs Jacksonville)?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Well good, that's what I'm here to provide!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Vent anytime! I was disappointed in Flacco…thought he'd do better. Glad Burleson and VD worked out for you.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

At QB, I'd probably wait to see how VY does this week, but I'd probably stubbornly throw Flacco out there again. With no Polamalu and the Steelers' beastly run D, I don't see any way that Flacco's not throwing 35-40 times.

I would drop Edwards in a hearbeat and I would probably go with the Jets D. I know they looked bad against NE, but I trust them more than Atlanta, Seattle, or SF, even against a run game as good as Carolina. It's close between those four, but I like the Jets.

  • Brian

I was thinking Flacco again too. I started him this week because of the way he started the season out. Figured the Ravens would win the game, I think they are a much better team than their record. Just didn't think Flacco would have another bad game.

Edwards is gone, I'm going with the Jets. Hopefully the Turnover Machine version of Delhomme will return this week. I'd like to see another 4 int game like he had earlier this week. And hopefully all Jets TDs (if they get any) come from the D. Thanks!

  • kyleATL

im about ready to hop off the matt forte wagon what do you think?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I think it depends on who your alternatives are. Forte has struggled obviously, and he is not getting into the end zone, but he does still have value if you're in a PPR league. He's clearly no longer a must start, but he's not a complete waste yet and you shouldn't drop him.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Hopefully it works out! Good luck this week.

  • olive

Hi Jerod: TE pick this week and going forward into playoffs: Boss, or Zach Miller? I have given up on the Olsen/Cutler hookup; Cutler looks that bad. WR pick for this week Garcon, Driver (not getting points lately) , or Steve Smith (NYG). Or pickup Terrell Owens off waivers??

  • kyleATL

not a ppr league or i probably would stay with him but i have steven jackson, marion barber, and brandon jacobs. but pierre thomas, jason snelling, justin forsett, and laurence maroney are all on the waivers

  • James

Should I start Peyton or Carson next week?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Boss has TDs in three straight games and really seems to be an integral part of the Giants passing game now. Hard not to go with him. His catches will always be a bit up and down, but Manning targets him in the red zone. I like Miller…but the Oakland passing is just too inconsistent to trust other than on a week-by-week, game-by-game basis.

I still don't trust TO, although he could have a big week against Miami's suspect corners. I'd go Driver. I almost listed him as by WR start 'em for this week. Did you see what Brady Quinn and the Browns did against the Lions? Rodgers, Driver, and Jennings should have a field day.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Wow…all of those guys on waivers!? How many teams are in your league? I would honestly start any of those four over Forte next week. If I had to rank them for the rest of the season I'd go PT, Forsett, Maroney, Snelling.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I love Carson Palmer for next week, but I'd never sit Manning. He has 34 TDs and 6 INTs lifetime against Houston and they are a team susceptible to the pass. Palmer should have a good game against Cleveland…but I just could not sit Manning.

  • JerodIsTheMan

    Hey Jerod,
I have to choose 2 wide receivers from this group to start. They are Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Wes Welker, Steve Smith (car), Hines Ward, Robert Meachem, Michael Crabtree, and Chris Chambers.

What do you think? I am in way over my head.

    THANK YOU!

  • kyleATL

yeah thats what i said when i got on last night to look at the FA's while watching forte run into the backs of his own guys… really upsetting but there is 12 teams but half of the people are women that at the last second we needed to fill spots haha(thats why PT got dropped yesterday afternoon and the girl picked up jamaal charles). and what do you think about sidney rice being on the waivers i have fitz, vjax, jennings and derrick mason

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

First off, you win the award for greatest comment username ever. It's clearly hyperbole, but much appreciated.

Now, how do you expect me to choose from those terrific options???

First of all, you have to go with Welker. I think it's a no-brainer. Especially if you are in a PPR league. He's just too consistently targeted by Tom Brady to ignore.

I think the fact that Steve Smith faces the Jets and Darelle Revis rules him out. Uncertainty at the QB position makes me wary of Hines Ward. Meachem and Crabtree are still a bit too inconsistent and unproven for my tastes, and Chambers is always a total wild card that I stay away from if possible.

That leaves Jennings or Driver, who should feast on Detroit's secondary this Thursday. Right now, I like Jennings. He is the Packers' #1 big play threat and is starting to play much better.

Welker and Jennings is my final answer.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Sidney Rice is having a terrific season and scored TWICE last week, which was a long time coming. Right now, I think you'd have to play him over everyone but Fitzgerald on a regular basis. I like Derrick Mason this week, but for comparison's sake, I would not start him over any of your other three WRs OR Sidney Rice. They are top notch WRs who are pretty much must-starts on most teams.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/kyleATLfalcon kyleATLfalcon

thanks alot i was wrecking my self last night thinking about what to do because knowing my luck ill drop forte and he'll have the best last half of the season ever. but i do like this site and ill be on more because of all the great advice and sometimes its kinda just fun to break down all the stuff that goes into fantasy football

  • Dan

Jerod – thanks for the quick and spot-on advice. I've not much to whine about sitting at 7-4 at the top of my league, most points scored. While I share the time (wasted?) by other owners wondering who's going to best whom, there's only pride, not money, on the line, a kind of gambling I enjoy without remorse. And you assume correctly – it's your advice I seek on which matchups by week may be more lucrative, however minuscule their differences.

  • Tasha

    Hey Jerod~
Thanks for your advice last week, ended up with a win! It was desperately needed:)
I played Brandon Marshall and he only earned 2 points with Orton out, what do you think about him this week if Orton continues to be benched? I have MSW and Lee Evans, I could use in his place. My other is Fitz who I never take out of the lineup other than his bye week.
Also, I have Heath Miller and Vernon Davis, both did well last week, who do you think with their matchups should I play this week. I also play each of their teams RB, Gore and Mendenhall, so which team will have the better day, should I go with their TE too? Durning bye weeks I was forced to play 3 players from the same team, both times those teams bombed and I lost my fantasy game. I am torn.
    Thanks for your advice:)

9 and 2 and starting to fall apart!
QB start one Romo or Matt ryan
WR start 3 Wayne, sidney rice, R. White, Jennings, miles
real bad match ups for RB
    RB start 2 Rice,forte,Laurence Maroney,Turnner, Sproils
what you would be the best starts/

Jerod – A new question for you. I have the Saints D, who have been outstanding, but Brady v Brees strikes me as having the potential to be a defensively devastating high scoring affair. Maybe I'm not giving the Saints D enough credit here.

My limited bench sits MSW and Roddy White (starting are MJD, Ricky Williams, Forsett, Derrick Mason, and VJax). Would you drop either MSW or Roddy White to pick up a defense for this week, creating room on the bench for the Saints – fully intending to start the Saints the rest of the season and playoffs? The top 4 available defenses this week are Packers, Niners, Cowboys, Chargers. If I drop MSW or White, it's highly likely I can't recover them again from the waiver wire. So this is both a question of this-week value and its relationship to season-long value. Thanks!

    Dan

Thanks Kyle. Best of luck the rest of the season and I look forward to your continued visits.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

    I like Matt Ryan.

Wayne, Rice, Jennings. (I know it seems to weird to say Ryan and then not say White, but that's how much I like the matchups Wayne, Rice, and Jennings have.)

Rice and Turner, if Turner plays. If not, play Maroney.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

If Orton is injured, Marshall has to see your bench too. But it looks like Orton will start. Right now, I would start MSW over Marshall. Evans is a bit up and down.

I'd start Davis. Always. The guy is one of the best TEs in the league, plus the Steelers have QB issues.

I'd play Gore at RB. SF plays Jacksonville in SF, which could lead to more scoring than the always physical Ravens-Steelers matchup. And if Big Ben is out, the Steelers will play it close to the vest which will slow down the pace. I like Mendenhall, but Baltimore is still halfway decent against the run, and Rashard has not been scoring TDs. Gore remains his team's #1 option.

I understand your desire to diversify your risk, but I'd still go Davis-Gore. I think they are both clearly the better options with solid matchups.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Wow…the Cowboys D is out there?

I'll be honest with you…I'd drop the Saints D and snatch up the Cowboys, who have a great matchup against Oakland. New Orleans' D has been very good this season, but they are only 13th in the league in points and middle of the road in yardage. Much of their value has been in return TDs, but they are starting to get banged up in the secondary and you can't expect that kind of production forever.

Now, that said, once we get past this week I'd rather have the Saints D. So you might want to think twice about this if you really think someone else would snatch them up, despite being overvalued. It'd be hard to part with MSW or Roddy White though. In the end, I would actually drop Mason, even though I think he's a good start for this week, because there isn't much separating him from MSW and Roddy White, two guys who should produce well down the stretch. I like Mason this week, but he's also been the least productive of the bunch overall.

Final answer: If I'm making the decision, I drop the Saints D and pick up the Cowboys D. If someone snatches the Saints up, fine. I'll play matchups the rest of the season and feel good about it. If you're really worried about losing the Saints' D, drop Mason and then hope you get him back.

  • Phillip

    Jarod,

Thanks for the WR help last week. I didn't pull out the win but my mojo was bound to run out eventually. Better now than in the playoffs right?
    Non-ppr league.
    Start 1: B. Wells, J. Charles
    Start 3: B. Marshall, S. Smith (Car.), M. Austin, S. Breaston

Also, which TE do you like from the WW? I'm cutting A. Bradshaw for one of these guys in preparation for playoffs (starting Dallas Clark currently).

Jermichael Finley, Zach Miller, Kevin Boss

As always, thanks for the help,
    Phillip.

Jerod: Who would you play this week: Steelers D or Cincy D (they burned me last week vs. Oakland so I am unsure about them)? We get points for turnovers, sacks, return yards and TD, points against.

Would you cut Bernard Scott to grab Houston D vs. St. Louis in week 15 (our playoffs are 14,15 with superbowl 16, see my other D's above). My other RB are Ricky Williams, Deangelo, and Ray Rice – which at this point I am going to start all three until the end of the season (although Rice vs. Steelers twice sucks).

I am taking your advice and going with Driver vs. Det. this week. As always, Thanks!!

    Hi Jerod,
Here is how my lineup looks. Let me know if you would recommend any changes.

    QB: Drew Brees vs. NE
    RB: DeAngelo Williams vs NYJ
    RB: Thomas Jones vs Car
    RB/WR: Justin Forsett vs StL
    WR: Vincent Jackson vs KC
    WR: Mike Sims-Walker vs SF
TE: Brent Celek vs Was – I am trying to get Jermichael Finley for Ahmad Bradshaw, but I am last on waivers…
    D/ST: Chargers vs KC
    K: Nate Kaeding vs KC

    Bench:
    QB: Joe Flacco
    WR: Roddy White vs TB
    WR: Laverneus Coles vs Cle
    WR: Miles Austin vs. Oak
    RB: Joseph Addai vs Hou
    RB: Ahmad Bradshaw
    D/ST: Colts

By the way, I am first in my league… thanks for all the great advice!
    Mary

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Gotta go Beanie Wells right now. He's en fuego and you don't get the benefit of points for Charles' catches.

    Marshall, Smith, and Breaston.

Wow, love all those guys. I'd have to go Kevin Boss because of his track record for catching TDs, but Finley and Miller could both finish strong.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Agree on the QBs. Warner or Schaub.

I don't like the chances of a T.O. repeat. He could do it again…but I'm not buying it when there are other solid options to choose from. I would definitely start Mason and Cotchery over him, unless you REALLY think last week was a T.O. turnaround.

Flex I would go with LT. He's playing really well right now and the SD offense is humming along. I like the matchup against KC too.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would still go with Cincy's D. I know Cleveland's offense played well last week, but I still don't trust them. The Ravens are far more capable on offense and PIT still does not have Polamalu back. I don't really believe enough in Houston's D to drop them for a RB who just had 100 yards.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Good move trying to get Finley. Really like him.

Boy, it's tough to sit Joseph Addai, but you kind of have to. Are you in a PPR league? If you aren't, I'd play Addai over Forsett. I love Forsett, but Houston will give up rushing yards and Addai already has 7 TDs this year.

  • Jason Cromeans

    Jerod,

Last week while I was disappointed about the Jamaal Charles advise I was still able to pull out the W so I am back again looking for more help

    QB= Peyton
    TE= Clark

2 WR, 2 RB, Flex between

Sidney Rice, MSW, Derrick Mason, Steve Smith, Nate Burleson, Jacoby Jones, Tim Hightower, LT, Leshean Mccoy, Jamaal Charles?

    Defense Phili or New England

    Thanks in advance

  • Greg

    Jarod,

    Brees or Palmer this week?

  • MnGopher

Thanks for the advice last week. This is becoming my favorite Fantasy Football website.
This week I need a little help picking my QB, a WR and a Flex.
QB choices are Schaub vs. IND, Warner with questionable injury, or Romo vs. OAK. I am thinking Warner unless he doesnt play, then Schaub.
WR, I have Andre Johnson, Miles Austin, Terrel Owens, Jerricho Cotchery, Derrick Mason, and TJ Housh. I feel like it is a toss up between all of them. Definitely have to take Andre Johnson. Is Miles going to break out again in OAK? Is T.O. back? Or can cotchery and mason overpower the big names in their matchups?
Flex- All the receivers named, along with Jamaal Charles and LT. Charles is a beast and LT is finally running like LT.
I am completely clueless on who to play at Flex.

If every player is firing on all cylinders, I could have a lineup of DAW, Ricky Williams, LT, TO, and Andre.

Also, on the two trades you helped me do, each once has been FANTASTIC. After I acquired DAW, he has been fantastic. Recently giving up Turner for Ricky Williams has been a gold mine. Turner gets hurt, and Ricky becomes the offense in Miami.
Any help/thoughts this week would be great.

  • MnGopher

Yikes, Delete this please. I didn't see that my other one got posted earlier. (computer problems)

  • Lou D.

I need help at my no.2 QB position (have to start 2, thankfully P. Manning is my no.1).
I have Matthew Stafford but is seems doubtful that he will go on Thursday?

Do I go with his backup – Daunte Caulpepper Or go with Josh Freeman or Ryan Fitzpatrick? I think Kyle Boller and Bruce Gradkowki are also available.

Your thoughts and input are much appreciated, as always.

  • MNgopher

Thanks for the help last week.
I score a ton of points last week, my bench outscored my opponent. This week I am sitting on a lot of potential.
I need to choose a QB, WR, and Flex.
QB- Schaub, Warner, Romo. I'm thinking Warner unless he is out, then schaub.
WR- Mason, Cotchery, Austin, TO, TJ Housh. You recommend Mason and Cotchery, I'm thinking Mason. However, TO went off and finally came back to form. What are the chances that Mr. TO is back and ready to score some points, or was it a 200 yard fluke?
FLEX- Jamaal Charles, LT, TO, TJ Housh, Miles Austin, Cotchery, Mason. Any thoughts?
Any help would be great, as usual.
Potential lineup of Warner, DAW, Ricky Williams, LT, TO, Andre, D Clark, Vikings D, and Longwell would be amazing if they were all healthy and in top form.

  • maxdo

    Hey Jerod,

Should I go with Kevin Smith, Beanie Wells, Jamaal Charles or Snelling (if Turner is out)?

    Thanks!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/kyleATLfalcon kyleATLfalcon

i have fitzgerald, marion barber, matt forte (for now) vjax, brandon jacobs, derrick mason, steven jackson and jennings… i figured fitz and sjackson for sure and im up in the air about my last 2 spots… what do you think? and if i pick up forsett should i put him in somewhere?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Gotta go Beanie Wells right now. He's en fuego and you don't get the benefit of points for Charles' catches.

    Marshall, Smith, and Breaston.

Wow, love all those guys. I'd have to go Kevin Boss because of his track record for catching TDs, but Finley and Miller could both finish strong.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Definitely Fitz and SJax for sure. I'd start Jennings and Forsett in the other slots; Mason if you don't get Forsett. I really like Forsett this week and moving forward.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I'm really liking Beanie Wells right now. Tough between he and Charles/Snelling, but I'd go Beanie.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

    I'd go Brees.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

You and me both! But you can't argue with two TDs, and Charles definitely produced despite what looked like a tough matchup. Glad you were still able to win!

    RB-Lesean McCoy
    RB-LT
    WR-Sidney Rice
    WR-Derrick Mason
    Flex-MSW

Can't recommend Charles here either. San Diego's D is playing very well lately and you simply can't sit LT and McCoy right now. You also have some WRs with very good matchups.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Thanks for the kind words MnGopher! Always appreciated. Did everything get answered?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I love your choices. I'd change nothing!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a sneaky little play this week. Miami will give up some passing yards and Fitz certainly seemed to get clicking with TO last week. I'd start him.

  • maxdo

    Thanks again!

  • Mikey

    Hey, Jerod,
I'm back! Great calls so far and still some of the better fantasy insight to be found. I have some issue this week…good issues, but still issues. I'm currently sitting at #2 and just looking at the matchups, week 13 is looking like a gimme. So I'm feeling good about the playoffs, but this week has me a bit worried. Last week I left over 70 points on the bench (still got the win, but it's just frustrating).

So here's what I'm looking at…what do you think?:

    RB1: peterson
RB2: snelling (depending on turner's status)
    WR1: burleson
    WR2: d. jackson
    FLEX: forsett

    BENCH: harvin
    BENCH: s. smith (NYG)
    BENCH: m. austin
    BENCH: crabtree
    BENCH: charles
(plus trying to grab up cartwright from waivers…)

I dunno, man. I didn't play charles the last 2 weeks (and like you said, given another shot last week, I still would've benched him), and it seems like every time I bench harvin he comes up with a solid 10+. Alright, thanks again for the column. Keep it up!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Thanks Mikey. Happy to be of service.

Harvin is a little up and down, which is to be expected since he is a rookie WR. I would do what you have done and play Burleson and DJax over him, with Forsett in the flex slot.

If Snelling can't go, I'd move Forsett to the RB2 slot and choose between Harvin and Charles…with the edge going to Charles because he's not a rookie. San Diego is not an easy matchup, but the Chiefs do seem committed to getting Charles 15-20 touches a game, which I like. I'm not a big fan of Steve Smith because of his lack of TDs and the fact that Champ Bailey might cover him.

  • Mikey

thanks, jarod. i'm with you on smith. i picked up boss last week and i'm feeling way better with him in there. probably a better of chance him getting the points anyway. crabtree's matchup is looking really good to me, but your 3 rb strategy makes a ton of sense. guess i'll wait to here something on turner and go from there. thanks again for the help!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Any time! Good point on Crabtree. The matchup is solid, I just really struggle to trust rookie WRs, especially ones who missed training camp and have QBs like Alex Smith. Always seems like a big risk of a 2 rec, 20 yard day.

  • Mikey

oh, and it's a non-PPR league. thought i'd throw that out there. thanks!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would keep it exactly as you have it. I'm not high on Antonio Bryant at all…but he is better than your other WR options. Is there anyone out there on your waiver wire? Robert Meachem? Mohamed Massaquoi? (Remember, MoMass had 8 catches and 100+ yards against Cincy earlier this year…)

  • Scott

Hey Jerod-Thanks a bunch for the help last week. I need to win 2 straight to make my playoffs so I really need some help. This week I need some help at WR, I need 3 of Smith (NYG), Breaston, Marshall, Cotchery and Garcon. And who do you think has a better chance at points between Bironas and Crosby? Thanks a bunch.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Is it a PPR league? That will be important for this question.

I think you have to go Marshall, despite what happened last week. Orton should be back, New York's passing game is struggling, and Marshall has the greatest potential for a big day out of your receivers. If you need wins, gotta go with a little risk.

Steve Smith is good in a PPR league, but he does not catch TDs.

I do like Cotchery and think that, despite a rookie QB, he is a solid choice.

Garcon and Breaston are relatively similar players…3-5 catches per game, a TD about every other, both the 3rd/4th options in their passing game.

If it's me, I'm going Smith, Marshall, and Cotchery. All three are the #1 targets for their QBs when they drop back, and that means something. Sorry for the long-winded answer, but needed to talk this one out and figured I'd just chronicle my thoughts so you could see.

    Best of luck this week!

  • olive

jerod: Last question before turkey day:

Would you start Rice vs. Pittsburgh D, or Forsett vs. St. Lous, or Bernard Scott vs. Clev. ??

    Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving

  • chris

    Hello,

Couple waiver questions I have for you. Chris Chamber and Kevin Boss are still up for grabs. Would it be worth dropping heap for Boss? Also have Z. Miller as well so who would you start? Also would you drop S. moss (washington) for Chambers? I have Bowe and am just sitting on him.

All that being said and done who would you start at flex considering all the players above. I have Moreno in there at the moment and also waiting to see what happens with julius jones?

Thanks for the help. 5 of us are battling for the last 2 wildcard spots and I feel I have the edge with the schedule. Rest of my lienup is fitz, sims walker, warner, slaton, l. mccoy, chargers and crosby.

  • chris

    and it is PPR

  • http://www.vicariously.tv Nick

    Hey Jerod,
Must start 2 of these 3: MSW, Derrek Mason, Greg Jennings. I kinda like everyone's matchup, so this may sort of a tossup situation where I expect to leave some points on the bench. Whadaya think?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

It really is tough. Jennings is my #1 pick because he has the best QB and matchup of the two. I could argue for Mason or MSW and satisfy myself. In the end, if I were making the decision, I'd start Mason. I trust him more, think he can have a good day against a Polamalu-less secondary, and David Garrard has been known to struggle mightily on the road.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would start Ray Rice. His all around production is just fantastic. Yes, I think Forsett will have a big game against St. Louis, but he hasn't earned the trust with me that Rice has.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

    Yes, drop Heap for Boss.

Toss up this week. I'd start Boss because Dallas' D is playing better than Denver's and you have to trust Eli more than Gradkowski.

Moss and Chambers are very similar in that they can be very hit or miss. Considering the rapport Chambers seems to be building with Cassel though, I'd make the move.

I would roll the dice with Chambers this week. He's got to be motivated facing the team that dropped him. I'd want to be able to take advantage if he goes off.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would start Forte of Stewart for exactly the reasons you mentioned, especially if you're in a PPR league. I agree with your other choices. Best of luck!

  • George

Thanks for all your help this year! It's been great getting an independent second opinion on my lineups!

  • George

I just got invited to attend the Panther Jet game this Sun so now I'm going to start Stewart over Forte. I would be so pissed if I watched him have a good day and i had him on the bench. revis will probably shut down Steve Smith so i can see Carolina going heavily to the run. I'm not in a PPR league so Forte's touches aren't as important as TD's and yardage.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Go for it! I can't argue with that at all. It's close anyway, so you might as well do what will help you enjoy the game more.

  • bboiler84

Let me know what you think of this lineup and if you would change anything.

    QB- Favre
    WR- Desean Jackson
    WR- Nate Burleson
    WR- Antonio Bryant
    RB- Thomas Jones
    RB- Justin Forsett
    TE- Dustin Keller
    Flex- Rock Cartwright
    Defense- Steelers
    K- Rob Bironas

    Bench:
    Michael Turner
    Tony Scheffler
    Tony Romo
    Mark Clayton
    Bobby Wade
    Dwayne Bowe
    Kris Brown
    Shonn Greene
    Colts Defense

Who to start at wr— I am starting wes welker and have to chose a second Boldin or DJack?
Who to start at RB– Starting DWIlliams and need to pick a second Mendenhall or MB3?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I like MB3. He's averaging over 5.0 yards per carry his last two games and Oakland's run D is awful. Should be a big game.

At WR, I'd go Boldin as long as Warner plays. If not, then I'd go DJax.

  • George

    Hi Jerod,

back from vacation and time for business

I'm getting closer to a playoff spot and have a tough matchup this week. Im in the 2 RB 2 wr 1 flex standard league. Ok I'm thinking of going w/ Addai, Forte, Maroney, Ocho Cinco and Donald Driver, Peyton, Akers, Celek and Tenn Def as my starters.

Miles Austin hasn't doen much lately and the Raiders have good CB's against the pass. I was thinking of starting Stewart because Forte may really struggle again agains the Vikes BUT Stewart is also feast or Famine w/ less touches plus the JETS have been stingy when giving up rushing TD's lately. At least Forte will get plenty of opportunities and is more likely to give you something.

    What do you think?

    QB Peyton/Cutler
    RB Addai/Forte/Maroney/J stewart
WR Ocho Cinco, Driver, Miles Austin, Austin Collie, Malcolm Floyd
    TE Celek
    Def Colts/Tenn
    K Akers

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/jmast22 jmast22

    Help on RB/WR/Flex… 2rb, 2wr, 1 flex…
RB: Benson, Addai, B. Scott, Turner, Maroney, F. Jones, B. Wells
WR: D. Jackson, MSW, S. Rice, C. Chambers

  • Johnny

need to start 2 RB and 2 FLEX out of the following:

    Marion Barber
    Ladanian Tomlinson
    Pierre Thomas
    Rashard Mendenhal
    Beanie Wells
    Justin Forsett
    LeSean McCoy
    Jamaal Charles

    thanks!

  • Jerod Rocks!!

    hey jerod>
    who should i start?
    matt ryan or eli manning
beanie wells or laurence maroney ( pick one )
steve smith nyg, steve smith car or jerricho cotchery ( pick one )

  • Chris

ok i cant decide at all this week HELP!!

    McNabb Or Eli

MJD, Forsett, SJAX or McCoy (pick 2)

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

    RB – Addai
    RB – Wells
    WR – MSW
    WR – S Rice
Flex – Turner or Benson (if either plays, in that order), otherwise I'd go with Maroney.

Just looked up DJax's career stats versus WAS and they aren't great. He scored a TD earlier this year but only has five receptions in three career games. And WAS has the #1 pass D in the NFL.

And I wouldn't play both Turner and Benson, coming off injury, when you had solid options in Addai and Wells. Hedge your bets.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Wow…that is a lot of really good options

    RB – MB
RB – LT (5 TDs in his last four games)

These two have great matchups, are proven, and have been playing better lately.

    Flex – McCoy
    Flex – Wells

Love Forsett, but the possibility of Jones stealing carries means go with the other guys. Same thing with Pierre Thomas, who loses goalline carries to Mike Bell.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would start Matt Ryan, better matchup (TB)

I'd go with Wells…very close though. Maroney has TDs in the 5 straight games, but I just don't trust NE and Belichick when it comes to RBs.

Steve Smith (CAR) probably has to go against Darrelle Revis all day and Cotchery has an inconsistent rookie QB. I'll take Steve Smith from the Giants.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I like Eli. Denver's D is struggling, whereas Washington's is dominating teams against the pass.

You can't sit MJD or SJax. I love McCoy, but not over those two consistent killers.

  • McQ

As with most weeks, my question is pertaining to the RB position, and is really just getting your thoughts on what I have already thought out. I have RRice, APeterson, CBenson, RMendenhall, DWilliams. I'm thinking Peterson(obviously) and DWill.
Here's what I'm thinking lineup wise:
    QB: BRADY
    RB: PETERSON
    RB: WILLIAMS
    WR: VJACKSON
    WR: OCHOSTINKO
    WR: MSW
    TE: VDAVIS
    DEF: JETS

    BENCH
    PRIVERS
    CBENSON
    MAUSTIN
    AGATES
    BENGALS
    MENDENHALL
    RRICE

    What do ya think?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I'd go with exactly what you have at RB: DWill and AD. Too bad you don't have a flex because it's hard to sit Ray Rice!

I would, however, play the Bengals D over the Jets D. Gotta love that matchup against the Browns.

    Hi Jerod,

Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for all of the help. I'm in a 12-team ppr league. I need advice on my Flex for this week. Who's the best choice from this group – Buckhalter, Forsett, Sammy Morris, Garcon, Mike Wallace, Devery Henderson.

Also, which TE do you like best this week – Celek, Carslon or Finley.

    Thanks again!

    Stefan

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I'd go with Forsett. He has lots of value in a PPR league even if Jones is back.

You have some really solid options at TE. I like Finley because of the matchup against the Lions. I like Carlson…but he's been so up and down this year that he just seems so risky. And Celek is going against a pretty good Washington pass D.

    Happy Thanksgiving! Good luck!

    Hey jerod,
thanks for your help this year. im to far out to win anymore but i can still earn my money back with high point. Anyway my questions are should i play mccoy or stewart or hightower. and idont know what to do about DEF i have 49rs and BAL bal is in my line up right now. any suggestions. Thanks alot

Hey Jerod, Happy thanksgiving. Your advice helped me out last week.
I was reading what you were saying about RB Kevin Smith (DET) and I agree with you. I decided to sit Smith out and put in Laurence Maroney(NE). It was between Marooney and Rashard Mendenhall (PIT), I just dont think Mendenhall would do that good against BAL defense, agree or disagree?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would go McCoy. Tough question on D. I'd probably play Baltimore even though the 49ers seemingly have a better matchup. They just haven't been stopping anyone lately and have to try and stop MJD and MSW this weekend.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Answering questions in between helping out with the Thanksgiving meal this morning.

I agree on Maroney over Smith and Mendenhall. Best of luck this week!

  • Steven Hixson

thankyou for your advice i do have in MSW and MJD so bal is who im stickin with

  • McQ

Here's one more for ya. Do I dare start Miles Austin over Ochocinco over MSW?

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I wouldn't start Austin. Oakland is good against the pass and MSW and Ocho have pretty good matchups.

  • McQ

    I meant Ochocinco OR MSW.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I wouldn't start Austin over either.

  • McQ

Awesome. thanks a lot bud. I really appreciate all the help this season. I hope you're having a good Thanksgiving.

  • McQ

For some reason Anquan Boldin was on waivers. Who do I start him over(Ocho or MSW)? I'm thinking MSW since he's listed as "questionable".

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

It all depends on Warner. If he's healthy and starting (he's supposed to be) then yes, I'd start him over MSW (not Ocho though). Boldin is a stud…how the heck is he on waivers in any league???

  • SweetLB

Hey Jarod, first time for me here. Who to go with at RB and WR? At RB gotta have 2 out of Rice, Ricky Williams, and Sean McCoy. At WR I am not sure between Mason and VJax.

    Peace
    LB

  • SweetLB

    Of course I meant "LeSean"

Welcome SweetLB! Glad to have you.

I'd go with Rice and Williams. It's hard to sit McCoy, who has really played well when healthy, but I think you have to give the nod to the production of the other two, plus Philly has a tough matchup against Washington's D. Rice has a tough matchup too against Pittsburgh, but they are without Polamalu and Rice is such a threat in the passing game.

At WR, I'd go with VJax. I love Mason, but not more than Jackson will Rivers as his QB.

  • kylie523

hi jerod…..for my flex spot this week moreno or smith (ny)

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I like Smith, especially in a PPR league.

  • Scott

Actually I appreciate the long winded answer. Makes me know that you're putting some thought into it. Here's another question, do I go Miami D at Buffalo or Seattle at St Louis? I think Bulger is out and in my league a defense can be the difference. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I like Seattle's against St. Louis. Buffalo appears to have found some continuity in their passing game…at least they did last week…and Miami has an inexperienced secondary. The Rams have SJax and not much else. They'll give up some rushing yards, but possibly less points. It's close, but Seattle.

  • der

    hey jerod,

2rb, 2wr, 1 flex have already started greg jennings. at wr not a ppr

rb- frank gore, rashard mendenhall, fred jackson

wr- hines ward, michael crabtree, greg jennings, to, ted gin jr.

  • Chris

with the injurys who would u trust more to start out of these rbs?
    i can pick 2

    L.McCoy (No Injury)
    MJD (P)
    S.Jackson (Q)
    J.Forsett (Jones might play)

    what do i do lol

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would play MJD and SJax, assuming SJax plays. If he does not, go with McCoy. I'd almost say McCoy over SJax, and if you have to set your lineup before being able to see the inactives list that's what I'd do, but SJax is too good to keep out of the lineup if he plays.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

BREAKING: Adam Schefter just said that SJax is active. I'd start him.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Gore and Mendenhall for for sure, with Ward and the Crabtree as the others. I don't really trust Fred Jackson, especially with Marshawn Lynch expected to splitting carries.

  • McQ

What's your take on the Peterson injury report for today? Do I sit him to play DeAngelo Williams since Peterson may not play and is in the later game?

  • mikey

hey, jarod. man, i'm looking for some last second advice here… with turner AND norwood active, i'm not feeling snelling anymore. the problem is that i have a couple of options here. who do you think?: crabtree, harvin, j. charles, or rock carwright (or just stick with snelling…i dunno though. i feel like i have some better options here). like i said, i like crabtree for the matchup; but i like harvin for the matchup as well. charles and cartwright are both very appealing as well just because they're the only options (moreso for cartwright…at this point i'm leaning towards rock…). i'm kicking myself because i gave my little brother-in-law the tip to pick up b. scott early in the week (his team blows and i kind of feel bad for him).

anyway, whadaya think? thanks as always, man. you're awesome.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

I would. Usually I'd wait on Peterson, but when you have someone as good as DAW to sub for him, I'd roll with it.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/JerodMSF JerodMSF

Honestly, I think I'd go with Jamaal Charles. The more I look at things, the more I'm beginning to actually like his matchup. SD's D has been solid, but they are giving up points to RBs. He's more proven that Rock Cartwright, and I like a RB with 15-20 guaranteed touches than Harvin and Crabtree, both capable of good days but also 2-3 reception duds as well. Remember, both are rookies.

  • mikey

awesome. thanks. the guy is definitely on a roll. besides, at this point it's pretty much a crapshoot anyway. thanks again for the help.

  • Chris

yea i agree i already lost ronnie brown for the season still holding down first place this is a huge game for me im just worried he can get hurt in game with an injury i like forset vs the 28th ranked defense (it is a PPR league) assuming julius jones dont play but yea i think im gonna go with jackson
