Via KCChiefsBlog.com, Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has been suspended for using performance enhancing drugs.
His suspension will reportedly begin immediately.
The Kansas City Star also has this to say about Bowe’s suspension:
Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
League spokesman Corry Rush announced the suspension in an e-mail, and the Chiefs have acknowledged Bowe’s suspension.
I guess this answers the questions I was getting earlier today in our Week 11 start ’em, sit ’em post regarding whether Bowe should play this weekend, huh?
For the season, Dwayne Bowe has 33 catches for 466 yards and 4 TDs, which puts him a little bit off pace in relation to his 2007 and 2008 numbers. I guess the “performance enhancing” part didn’t really come to fruition.
Update: Here are a couple of excellent points regarding the suspension of Dwayne Bowe from Pro Football Talk:
The specific substance for which he tested positive isn’t known, and it’s possible that the violation occurred in 2008 or earlier. It’s also possible that Bowe didn’t test positive; some players have been suspended based on evidence of possession of banned substances.
And here is more good news for Browns fans, who have the Chiefs on their schedule later this year: Bowe will miss the next four games and then be back in time to face Cleveland. If you’ve been following the Browns this year, it makes perfect sense that it would work out this way.
Update: Here is more Adam Schefter in a couple of tweets posted a few minutes ago:
From what I gather, Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe was trying to lose weight in training camp and took a diuretic.
Bowe found out about his suspension earlier this month and has decided not to appeal it. He knows those are battles players don’t win.
