Willie Parker Out vs Lions, Rashard Mendenhall Gets His Chance

According to numerous sources, Steelers HB Willie Parker will be out again this week against the Detroit Lions. Willie Parker’s toe still does not seem to be at 100% like Tomlin wants.

In place of Parker, Steelers HB Rashard Mendenhall will get a second start, and a much deserved second start indeed.

Last week, Mendenhall rushed for a whopping 165 yards, and 2 touchdowns as he showed that the Steelers run game was nowhere near running empty against the Chargers.

Now with Parker out again, is there a possibility Mendenhall becomes the permanent starter? Well for now, no. But if Mendenhall shows us an encore performance against the NFL’s 20th ranked Detroit eush defense, then we may see some possible changes in the Steelers depth chart.

Just take a look at this quote from Pittsburgh offensive coordinator, Bruce Arians:

“His body of work isn’t large enough yet…Now, if he comes out and does it again this week? Yeah, then you have to re-evaluate the number of carries both guys get.”

Here’s your chance Mendenhall.
