PFI’s Week 8 QB and RB Play Em, Bench Em

       BallHype: hype it up!

Week 7 is in the books with an amazing milestone: Peyton Manning did NOT pass for 300 yards (the first time in six games that he had not done so).

Week 7 was also a week of blowouts. Six NFL teams lost this weekend by 28 points or more, and one of those teams was the Bears…at the hands of the Bengals! Unbelievable.

Most of this we all saw coming (Week 7 Start Em or Sit Em), but the Bears game was a shocker.

Let’s break down the fantasy football landscape for Week 8, including which players you should play and which players you should bench. (By the way, week 8 is a bye week for the Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers and Redskins.)

As a side note: My ban on starting any Bills, Browns or Raiders offensive players has not been lifted! This rule is still in effect.

Play Em / Bench Em Quarterbacks

Play Em

Matt Schaub – Texans – Schaub will be facing the Bills, who allowed Jake Delhomme a 300 plus yard game last week.

week 8 play em or bench em - jay cutler, matt hasselbeck, brandon jacobs, ryan grantJay Cutler -Bears – The Bears are coming off of a horrible game against the Bengals should mean sit em, right? Not when you draw the Cleveland Browns this week, at home!

Philip Rivers -Chargers – Rivers had a good game against the Chiefs, and plays Oakland this week; ’nuff said.

Bench Em

Matt Hasselbeck -Seahawks – Matt will be facing a Cowboys defense that held Matt Ryan t0 nine fantasy points last week. That, combined with Hasselbeck’s last appearance of 111 yards with 2 turnovers versus the Cardinals, makes me want to avoid Hasselbeck.

Mark Sanchez -Jets – The Jets are playing the Dolphins, who gave a win away last week to the Saints. Sanchez did not look great against Oakland, and I see the Jets relying on the running game again this week.

Jake Delhomme -Panthers – Yes, Jake went over 300 yards last week but he threw three more picks. This week he faces the Cardinals, who gave Eli Manning all he could handle on Sunday, as they picked off Manning three times and held him to under 250 yards passing and 1 touchdown. The only factor here that could change is the health of the Cardinals secondary.

Play Em / Bench Em Running Backs

Play Em

Steven Jackson -Rams – I know Jackson owners have been dying to hear this. Jackson just had a 134-yard game and will play the Lions this week, which means that he could actually get into the endzone. There are not too many weeks where you will see Steven Jackson above the bench em print, but this week is one of those weeks.

Brandon Jacobs – Giants – Jacobs had a good game against the Cardinals, and in my opinion was not used nearly enough. Jacobs had a couple big gains, and looked good attacking the holes. I look for the Giants to go to Jacobs more this week against the Eagles.

Matt Forte -Bears – See Jay Cutler! (Hint: it has to do with their opponent…the Browns.)

Bench Em

Ryan Grant – Packers – I know that Grant just had 143 rushing yards last week, but that was against the Browns. The Minnesota Vikings this week will not be as generous with the rushing yardage.

Julius Jones – Seahawks – Jones has had a horrible last three games, with a total of 64 yards rushing over that period. The Cowboys will not help his stock rise this week.

Joseph Addai -Colts – Addai does not have over 64 yards rushing in a game this year. The 49ers D will not be as forgiving at the Rams, who gave Addai his season high in yardage.
