Greek fans packed into Quicken Loans Arena, last night, in support of their beloved Olympiakos Piraeus Basketball Team (who traveled to America for a two game stand, first playing the San Antonio Spurs, then the Cleveland Cavaliers).
Although the Cavs continued their 3-0 winning streak, and beat the Olympiacos 111-94, the loss didn’t dampen the passionate spirit of the Greek fans.
Many sang, jumped up and down, waved banners, and danced in their seats–or in the Main Concourse of the Arena. And most were dressed in jackets and T-Shirts which displayed their native flag, while their Olympiakos team wore red and white striped Jerseys, which resembled NBA Referee uniforms.
Several fans said that they travel right along with their team, and proclaimed themselves as the best all around sports fans in the world. However, both Greek and Cavs fans alike were dazzled and entertained by what has been dubbed in NBA circles as the Shaq and Lebron show–and their monstrous dunk performance.
Also, seven Cavs scored in double digits. James played 22 minutes (scoring 12 points), Varejao played 22 minutes (13 pts.), Parker 24 minutes (10 pts.), O’Neal 21 minutes(12pts.), Gibson (starting for Mo Williams, who was out with a groin injury) played 29 minutes (15 pts.), Karl 23 minutes (10 pts.), and Hickson played 14 minutes (13 pts).
