Last week we introduced 4th and Short, our weekly NFL picks podcast featuring myself and Big MB.

As promised, 4th & Short is back this week to give you expert point spread analysis for the most compelling games on the NFL Week 6 schedule.

In Week 6, there are clearly three games that jump off the schedule as being the most important games of the week: Ravens-Vikings, Falcons-Bears, and of course, Giants-Saints.

Big MB and I look at these three games, plus five more, and determine which teams will cover the spread and which teams will come up short.

Throwing a (Dawg) Bone to Eric Mangini

Email Post Email Post
eric-mangini

I’d been thinking about writing this post for the past week or so.

And after reading this on PFT this morning, I decided the time was right to at least try throwing a bone to embattled Browns coach Eric Mangini.

I figure if I don’t point out the positives now, before the rare glow of the team’s first victory fades into what I assume will be the overall blackness of our experience in Heinz Field this weekend, I might never get around to it.

Passionate Greek Fans Witnessed Cavs Win At The Q

Email Post Email Post

Greek fans packed into Quicken Loans Arena, last night, in support of their beloved Olympiakos Piraeus Basketball Team (who traveled to America for a two game stand, first playing the San Antonio Spurs, then the Cleveland Cavaliers).

Although the Cavs continued their 3-0 winning streak, and beat the Olympiacos 111-94, the loss didn’t dampen the passionate spirit of the Greek fans.

Fantasy Football Week 6 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Lineup Advice and Projections

matt-hasselbeck

This post is from 2009!

Head over to MSF Fantasy Sports for the 2010 Week 6 start em, sit em picks.

——————–

Week 5 was one of those strange weeks during which things just seemed to come out of nowhere.

For instance, who had Jeremy Maclin or Miles Austin starting? If you did, you were in a hell of a lot better shape than people like me who felt good running Mike Sims-Walker out there.

And how many people thought Cedric Benson would get shut down by the normally stout Ravens’ D? Obviously I did, since I told everyone who would listen that he was a solid sit ‘em candidate. What does Benson do? He turns in a great performance and now leads the NFL in rushing.

Yes, ladies and gentleman, we are currently living in a world in which Cedric Benson is the NFL’s leading rusher.

If you’re thinking “WTF?” you are not alone.

I took it on the chin in a lot of my leagues last weekend. As many of you know, I am built around Saints players in many leagues. This is typically a very good strategy…in all weeks other than their bye week.

With my Saints back in action this week, hopefully I can get back to two or three-games over .500 in most of my leagues.

For the rest of this post and on into the comments section, I’ll do my best to help you get a win in Week 6 as well.

Hawks Score Six Straight Goals to Beat Flames 6-5 in OT

Email Post Email Post

Before 12 minutes had passed, the Hawks found themselves already down 0-5, as well as being booed by their fans. Huet had also been benched. It looked like we were seeing total beatdown,  but did that stop the Hawks?

Not one bit.

The Flames were shut out in the 2nd, 3rd, and OT.  John Madden scored late in the 1st. Kane, Big Buff, and Bolland all scored in the 2nd to cut the deficit to 1. Sharp’s goal in the 3rd tied it at 5-5, and Brent Seabrook’s OT goal, a goal that was scored in just 26 seconds,  clinched the win for the Hawks.

It was a record-tying comeback for the mighty Hawks.

eli-peyton-manning

Another interesting week of NFL football and it’s time to see how the top 15 teams in the NFL stack up.

It should come as no surprise that last week’s top two stayed in the same spots this weekend.

(Hint: both teams have Archie Manning’s sons calling the signals!)

After the jump, check out my current top 15 and then chime in with your comments/disagreements in the comment section.

Brilliant Braylon for New York in Miami

Email Post Email Post
braylon-edwards-jets

Last week at this time wide receiver Braylon Edwards was lanquishing in Cleveland, waiting for a ball to come his way from a sputtering offense, while searching for nightlife downtown and throwing down with a Friend of LeBron.

On Monday Night Football in Miami, Jets v. Dolphins, Number 17 — wearing his new New York Jets uniform — was brilliant, showing off the moves, leaps and most importantly, the hands that Browns fans had not seen since 2007.

Edwards had five catches for 64 yards, one touchdown and another called back on a challenge with the ball placed on the one-yard line. The Jets scored on the very next play.

Despite the loss to Miami, New York fans were buzzing about the Mark Sanchez to Braylon Edwards connection.

Magical.

College Football Picks Podcast – Week 7, October 17th

Email Post Email Post
college-football-picks-logo

Once again, I am proud to be announcing a new regular feature here at MSF: the College Football Picks Podcast with Jerod and the ‘Stache.

(Note: I didn’t come up with the name until after we’d recorded the first episode — and after I found two funny pictures to photoshop together —  so bear with me. Next week’s episode will reflect the “official” name. As if you care.)

Each week, our very own KVB (aka The ‘Stache) will be joining me to dissect and pick the biggest games on that week’s college football schedule. And despite KVB’s aversion to the point spread, I was able to convince him to pick against the spread.

We also discuss KVB’s thoughts on whether money truly determines everything in college football. KVB isn’t so sure that the conventional wisdom on this issue is correct.

Among the games we look at and pick against the spread this week: Cincinnati-South Florida, Oklahoma-Texas, Ohio State-Purdue, Iowa-Wisconsin, Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech, South Carolina-Alabama, and USC-Notre Dame.

And take note of this: so far during the NFL season, we are 43-31 picking against the spread. Not bad.

Enjoy.

NFL Week 6 Picks, Point Spreads, and TV Schedule

Email Post Email Post

Update: The NFL Week 17 TV schedule, point spreads, and picks post is up.

——————–

Week 5 was not so stellar for me from a fantasy perspective, but on the bright side the Browns actually got a W and the Dolphins are up 10-7 on the Jets right now as I write this.

Plus, I dominated against the spread last week: 9-4 (with the updated Monday night result). That makes me 43-31 against the spread on the season, meaning I would have to totally pull a chiefsramsraiderstitansbucs two weeks in a row to fall below .500.

This week features a few very interesting games, most notably an undefeated showdown between the 4-0 Saints and 5-0 Giants. Unfortunately, it’s a 1:00 game. The Vikings and Ravens also matchup at 1:00.

In primetime, we get a pretty intriguing matchup between 3-1 Atlanta and 3-1 Chicago, and then it’s Broncos-Chargers on Monday night. The early spread for that game was very surprising, at least to me.

Who am I picking? Read on for the NFL Week Six picks, point spreads, and TV schedule.

Yankees-Angels ALCS TV Schedule and Pitching Matchups

Apparently, this series was inevitable.

Neither the New York Yankees nor the Angels had any trouble disposing of their first round foes, the Twins and Red Sox, respectively.

It sets up a meeting between the AL’s two most consistent teams in 2009, and one that should be far more interesting than the ho-hum ALDS series that we just witnessed.

Here is your quick preview of the Yankees-Angels ALCS, with the TV schedule, pitching matchups, and some other resources for you:
