NFL Week 7 Picks, Point Spreads, TV Schedule and Announcer Pairings

Email Post Email Post

Update: The NFL Week 17 TV schedule, point spreads, and picks post is up.

——————–

As I post this while getting ready for the Monday battle between Denver and San Diego, I am hoping the Chargers can prove me right and cover the 3.5 spread. If they do, it would allow me to sneak through a pretty forgettable Week 6 with a 7-6 record. (Update: Well, they didn’t, so I went 6-7. Awesome.)

Otherwise, I’ll have my first sub-.500 week of the season.

I’m still sitting a 49-36 heading into tonight’s game, so at worst I’ll be 12 games up, and I guess that’s no so bad. (Update: Current record: 49-37.)

But as we always do on Monday nights here at MSF, it’s time to look forward to next week. Hence, here we are with our usual look at next week’s TV schedule and point spreads, plus spread picks for each game.

And Myles and I will be here later in the week with the 4th and Short Podcast, where we discuss and pick the most compelling games on the schedule. So bookmark this page and come back, or be on the lookout Wednesday night/Thursday morning on the homepage.

Courtesy of our friends at Inside the Hall, here is audio from Tom Crean’s appearance on the Dan Dakich show today.

Among the topics discussed: Midnight Madness, Crean bringing back the “mop lady”, and this year’s team. He has some especially kind words for freshman Jordan Hulls.

Jenna Fischer on Cover of Shape Magazine For Good Reason

Email Post Email Post
jenna-fischer

As a recent devotee of The Office (made it through four seasons over the last six weeks, about to start Season 5), I have come to appreciate the understated yet undeniable allure of Jenna Fischer, aka Pam.

Well, while approaching the checkout line at the grocery store yesterday, I noticed the new edition of Shape Magazine out of the corner of my eye. Let’s just say that the cover makes her allure far less understated and much more obvious, as if that was necessary.

The good folks at Shape also put a video of Jenna’s photo shoot online. We are taking a quick break from sports here this morning to bring it to you. Enjoy:

Monday Night Football

Denver Broncos (5-0) at San Diego Chargers (3-2)

  • Broncos-Chargers Date: Monday, October 19th
  • Broncos-Chargers Kickoff Time: 8:30 PM
  • Broncos-Chargers TV Network: ESPN
  • Broncos-Chargers Announcers: Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, and Jon Gruden
  • Broncos-Chargers Point Spread: Chargers -3.5
  • Broncos-Chargers Over-Under: 44
  • Broncos-Chargers Spread Pick by Jerod: I was shocked when I first saw this line, but am not so shocked the more I think about it. The Chargers are coming off a bye, should have a healthier LaDainian Tomlinson at their disposal, and had to listen to their GM call them out this past week. The Broncos are coming off of a tough, emotional win over New England, and you have to think that this team is going to stumble on the road at some point. I think Philip Rivers outplays Kyle Orton and the Chargers hand the Broncos their first loss of the season, and by more than a field goal. Broncos-Chargers free pick: Chargers -3.5

Broncos-Chargers MNF Preview and Analysis

In August, ESPN’s “football expert,” John Clayton, who spends 365 days per year studying the sport, predicted the Denver Broncos would win “two or three games max” this season. To their credit, the other commentators on the panel disagreed, though most said five wins might be a stretch. Denver, of course, is undefeated through five weeks of football in 2009. The last four times Denver has started 5-0, they’ve made the super bowl or won the championship.

The Great Debate: Rex Ryan vs Josh McDaniels

Email Post Email Post
mcdaniels-ryan

It can be in the Big Apple, under the bright lights, in front of a sea of green and white maniacs. Those maniacs who are screaming their heads off to perfectly complement a defense that has plenty of screams of their own. It be at a press conference guaranteeing a spot into the second season as you make your coaching debut.
Or..

It can be coming into a situation as murky as the Everglades, as distorted as a Picasso painting, and as confusing as a puzzle. Coming into the situation with your head on right, not letting any certain WR get in the way of you getting to your goal, in order to prove your former team/head coach wrong, and then guide your new team to a 5-0 start.

Recognizable situations, no?

Well if you are still unfamiliar, let me clear things up.

Welcome to my second “Great Debate”, where I will pit two of the best at what they do against each other in an all-out brawl. Comparing and contrasting the two with facts, stats and opinion; where in the end one will come out on top, whether it be by a landslide or a hair.

So without further ado I would like to introduce you to Round 2 of my Great Debate, coach vs coach, defensive mastermind vs offensive guru.

Rex Ryan vs Josh McDaniels.

NCAA College Football Point Spreads and TV Schedule – Week 8, October 24th

Email Post Email Post

The college football bowl game TV schedule and point spreads have been posted!

Follow the link to view the college football bowl game TV schedule and point spreads for the 2009-10 bowl season, including all BCS games.

—————

This past weekend featured a few surefire gems in Texas-Oklahoma and USC-Notre Dame. Neither game disappointed as both games were one possession away from the lead changing when the final buzzer sounded.

In all, there were five matchups between top 25 teams to keep college football fans excited.

This weekend? Not so much.

TCU-BYU highlights what is a pretty lackluster week of matchups. Of course, this will probably mean that Week 8 of the 2009 college football season will end up being the most dramatic; and it could be, if Mississippi State can upset Florida, or Tennessee can upset Alabama, or Missouri can upset Texas.

Of course, based on the point spreads, none of these upsets appears likely.

MSF Podcast: BSO’s Robert Littal on “New Developments” in Steve McNair Murder Investigation

Email Post Email Post
robert-littal

Yesterday, I caught the following blurb on Pro Football Talk, in reference to “new developments” that CBS is promising in the ongoing investigation into Steve McNair’s murder:

CBS promises that Keteyian’s findings will expose “critical flaws in the police investigation and raises troubling questions about the events leading up to the two deaths.”

My reaction after reading?

“I wonder what Robert Littal has to say about this.”

And if you want to know why Robert’s name was the first I thought of, take a quick minute to review Littal’s coverage of the Steve McNair murder investigation at Black Sports Online (this post in particular).

So I asked Robert what he thought these “new developments” might be (obvious teaser: the former boyfriend?!?), and he graciously agreed to answer via the burgeoning MSF Podcast, with the resulting insight just a click away.

College Picks for October 17th

O.K so the GURU is surging with the Pro games after last week’s stellar performance. 11 wins 8 losses so far on the year.

Still struggling with the college picks though, with 7 wins and 9 losses. I firmly believe I can turn around the ship this week in the college.

Pro picks later today, college picks right now:

From Fans’ Perspective, Is Joshua Cribbs the Second Most Untradable Cleveland Athlete?

Email Post Email Post
grady-sizemore-remetee

The following tweet by our friend Scott from Waiting For Next Year perfectly summed up my thoughts regarding the Josh Cribbs trade rumors floating around right now:

As little underlying support there is, these Josh Cribbs rumors are not fun

He is exactly right.

Who knows how legitimate the Cribbs-to-Miami or Cribbs-to-whomever talk is, but there is nothing fun or exciting at all about the Browns’ clear fan favorite being mentioned in the same sentence as the word “trade.”

All the rumors about Cribbs got me to thinking: is he the second most untradable sports figure in Cleveland?

(I think we all know who the first is.)
