NFL Week 5 TV Schedule, Point Spreads, Announcers, and Picks

Update: The NFL Week 17 TV schedule, point spreads, and picks post is up.

——————–

Well, this is the earliest I’ve ever gotten the new NFL TV schedule, spreads, and picks post up. I’m putting the finishing touches on it as I watch Monday Night Countdown in anticipation of the Vikings-Packers game tonight.

But in three or four hours, this game will be over and we’ll all be turning our attention to the pivotal games on the Week 5 schedule: Bengals-Ravens, Falcons-49ers, and the biggest game of the week: Bill Belichick and the Patriots traveling to Denver to face former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and his 4-0 Broncos.

None of these games will have the anticipation of tonight’s Favre-Packers clash, but the ante gets upped each week and lines of demarcation between the haves and have nots becomes more strongly defined.

As always, this post is designed to be the most complete viewing guide you’ll find anywhere. Not only is every game listed (with date, time, network, and announcer pairing) but we also give you the point spread and over-under, as well as an educated guess at a spread pick for each game.

Through three weeks I am 35-27 against the spread. I had my first week at 50% last week, so I’m looking to rebound this week.

Read on for the NFL Week 5 tv schedule, point spreads, and picks.

Report: Braylon Edwards Accused of Assaulting Man Outside Nightclub

Email Post Email Post
braylon-edwards

Yesterday afternoon, I trudged home from the Browns Backers watching party that I always attend on Sundays, lamenting yet another Browns loss and our horrid 0-4 record.

I drowned my sorrows in afternoon and evening football, did some blogging and tweeting, and went to bed early with the knowledge that I’d wake up one day closer to the Browns’ next victory.

It appears that Braylon “Hands” Edwards has other, more public means of dealing with his frustration.

Leadership and Commitment, Miguel Cabrera Style

With the Detroit Tigers reeling and its months-long grip on first place quickly dwindling, you would think that the Tigers’ players would be extra focused.

More video work, more work in the cage, extra stretching…whatever each player needs to play at his best.

Certainly, as a fan or if I were a manager, I’d at least expect my team’s players to be well rested and, you know, not hungover and in jail until 8:00 on the morning of a huge game.

Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, it seems, would not agree.

Twins v Tigers: One Game Playoff Tickets, Preview, and Prediction

You may have noticed that we haven’t been paying as much attention to baseball here at MSF lately. My personal excuse for that is two-fold: first, I’m a White Sox fan and they fell out of the race early in September; second, football season started.

Site-wide, the excuse is simple: we need more baseball writers. (So contact us if you want to cover baseball! We’d love to have you.)

But that dearth of baseball coverage is about to change because October is here, which means it’s playoff time. And just like last season, the playoffs kick off with a one-game playoff tie-breaker to decide the AL Central.

Say what you will about the overall level play in the AL Central, but it routinely gives us the most hotly contested division race in all of Major League Baseball.

Last year it was the White Sox and Twins duking it out for a 163rd game. This year, it’s the Tigers and Twins. Here is everything you need to know:

—————

This has not been a good start to the football season for me, college or pro.

The four teams that I follow and root for are: the Browns, the Dolphins, Tennessee, and Indiana. Combined, they are 6-12, with the majority of those victories coming courtesy of soft pre-conference schedules for UT and IU.

Still, despite the lack of discernible reward in terms of success, I trudge along watching college football and the NFL each weekend.

And here is your weekly college football viewing guide (NFL guide comes tomorrow) to get you ready for the weekend of Saturday, October 10th.

Browns Show Glimpses of Hope But Still Lose in Overtime

Email Post Email Post

It’s amazing how much faith Browns’ fans have.

Terrible performance after terrible performance, the fans are there. They’re hoping and praying, but still have faith that their Brownies can win.

Even after an 0-3 start, this Sunday was no different.

Hey basketball heads. I’m sure each and every one of you is salivating at the thought of the start of the 09-10 NBA season.

Nevermind the fact that this season may be one of the most anticipated in a LONG time. I mean come on, look at what is at stake; the whole 2010 free agent class.

Well anyways, maybe I can help some of your NBA addictions.

New AP Poll Displays Obvious Bias and Disrespect

Email Post Email Post
bret bielema

The new AP college football poll was released earlier today, and the top four are as expected 1) Florida, 2) Texas, 3) Alabama, and 4) LSU.

But then it gets hairy.

Boise State won and slipped from fifth to sixth? Virginia Tech barely beat a team that lost to Richmond, and slides up a spot?

It’s the same in the coaches poll.

The bias against Boise State has begun.

They’re going to do all they can to prevent an unbeaten Broncos team from playing for a national title.

Ridiculous.

Blackhawks Split in Helsinki

Email Post Email Post

The Blackhawks were able to get 3 out of 4 possible points this weekend against the Florida Panthers. The Hawks offense looked very sharp against a below average defense, totaling 88 shots on goal.

Antti Niemi surprised with his performance Saturday. Niemi started in net for the Hawks on Saturday, and stopped all 23 shots that came his way, ending in a 4-0 win for the Hawks. Niemi has been battling Corey Crawford for the backup goalie position, and with performances like that, he will be the backup for a long time.

Patrick Kane had a very productive weekend, scoring twice and also getting 2 assists. It’s nice to see Kane perform this well after he had an off-season that he would probably like to forget.

Fantasy Tip: Pick up Mohamed Massaquoi

Email Post Email Post

Quick tip for all you fantasy football players out there: grab Mohamed Massaquoi, and do it quickly. As long as Derek Anderson is playing QB, Massaqoui will be productive. He already has six or seven catches and 100+ yards today, and it’s not a mirage. This is a talented guy who was masked by Brady Quinn’s ineffectiveness.

Massaqoui will not be a superstar, and is a rookie so don’t drop anyone proven for him, but he could be a nice bye week fill in, especially next week against Buffalo and their banged up secondary.
