Kevin Smith Injury Update: Status for Week 4 Looking Much Better

Courtesy of @TheGNUru, just saw that the latest injury update on Lions running back Kevin Smith is tha this prognosis seems to be improving by the hour.

After reports earlier today listed Smith’s status as uncertain (the dreaded “game time decision), Smith has now reportedly told the Detroit Free Press that he is healthy enough to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

“It’s football, so I’m sure I’ll have to endure some pain, but it’s good enough to go. I feel healthy enough to play at a high level,” Smith said.

This is obviously great news for the Lions and for Smith fantasy owners. With bye weeks beginning this week, many owners of Smith were in a bind trying to figure out to handle Smith’s injury. It appears now that they won’t have to worry and can plug Smith into their lineups with confidence.

Kevin Smith is having a solid sophomore campaign so far and is a good #2 RB. He has rushed for 204 yards in six games and scored a touchdown. He also added 12 receptions for 80 yards and another score.

The going won’t be easy on Sunday, as the Bears are currently 13th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game (94.7) and have given up only two rushing TDs over the first three weeks of the season.

Still, Smith is one of the rare running backs these days who is a true #1, having gotten 55 carries through three games. He would have more, but the Lions got behind in Weeks 1 and 2 and had to throw more in the second half.
